on July 21, 2008Torre del Mar is situated at the beach at the border of Playa d'en Bossa and Figueretas just south of Ibiza town. There are about 200 rooms so it's quite a large hotel.
The first thing I noticed was the interior design, it is a bit outdated and old-fashioned, kind of like my grandparents kind of style - only more glamourous . The reception has sparkly chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The staff are properly dressed and there are flower decorations, pink marbled floors, velvet couches and paintings. It's not trendy or hip in any way, but a mature and quiet hotel with an old-fashioned touch of glamour. I've seen some travellers describe the decor as outdated, I guess I agree on that!
The rooms has flat screen tvs with some international channels (German MTV, Cnn..) There is a stocked mini-bar, hair-dryer and a nice bathroom. The beds are hard as stone (nothing comfy - but I'm from Scandinavia, I'm used to big fluffy pillows, soft mattress etc) There is air condition as well and it worked very well. I think all of the rooms have balcony with two plastic chairs and a small plastic table (very simple and cheap - nothing extravagant here).
The room was cleaned every day - most days we got new towels.
The staff is professional and helpful, and compared to many other hotels in southern Europe I didn't feel like a suspect (there were no deposits, they don't copy everything from passports to booking papers) and I like that (I hate it when they insist on keeping your passport, even though you've paid the hotel in advance).
There is both indoor and outdoor pool. I never saw anyone in the indoor pool though. The outdoor pool is round with a fake tower in the middle (torre I suppose). 1/4 of the pool is a separate children's pool. Though there are not too many families with young children staying here. There is a small garden with sunloungers and a cafe as well.
Breakfast buffet every morning, choose from croissants, rolls, pain au chocolate, cereals, yoghurt, fruits, ham, cheese, fried egg, bacon, sausage, cake, muffins.. It was quite okay - even though it's hard to live healthily here!
The hotel is quite peaceful and there's absolutely no party atmposhere.. (even though on the day we left a group of young Brits arrived, but generally I'd say it's a quiet resort) So this is a place to stay with your partner, family (with older kids) or if you just want a hotel where you can relax and chill. I feel a little bit out of place coming home at 5 am being out clubbing (though they don't bat an eyelid, so I guess it's okay!)
The best thing about Hotel Torre del Mar is the location. It's quite close to Ibiza town, it takes approx. 20-25 min to walk to the Marina. And there are beaches nearby as well, both in Figueretas and Playa d'en Bossa. It is very peaceful and quiet (except from the noise from airplanes landing and taking off as the airport is nearby) It is a 15 minute walk to the club Space and BoraBora, so if clubbing is your thing you have nearby options!
