G. de Formentor
My favourite thing was walking alone in the hills. My Fondest Memory was visiting where Chopin and George Sand lived.
Chopin also lived near me in Edinburgh for a short time.
I enjoy his music !

Hi there,
may you know if it is possible to rent a small camper there. not with toilette and so an, like a VW T5 with sleeping option (http://www.jucy.co.nz/vehicles/jucy-crib.aspx).
I am there from Nov 5-7 and want to explore the island, but a bit comfortabel and not in a hotel.
I just need to have a good sleep and be free do decide where.
Cheers, Nina
What's your question?
As I see it the question is "Is it possible to rent a small camper van?"
Do note that there are no commercial camping grounds on Mallorca. There are just a few spots with basic facilities, like toilets, where it is possible to camp for free. One of them is in the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains, near the Lluc Monastery. Otherwise, you have to pay attention where you pitch your tent or park your van. It is illegal doing it on the beach or anywhere near the coast (I don't recall the exact distance). For obvious reasons, this is also forbidden in inhabited areas. Otherwise, you have to take into account that most of the land is privately owned, and you should request permission from the owner before camping. In order to avoid the hassle, my advise is that either you go to one of the designated camping areas or just rent a car and stay in a small possessió (traditional farm) in the countryside, if you want to keep away from tourist areas. Many of these possessions accept guests, and while they tend to be on the luxury side, there should be options for all budgets.
Enjoy your stay.

Alcúdia Bay is a long stretch of narrow, sandy beach with beautiful water. It is backed by countless hotels, but still less crowded than Palma de Mallorca, I believe. On the next pics I tried to get a panoramic view over the bay.
spend some time in the lovely town of Valldemossa. Chopin had a house there.

Hiking in Mallorca is always strongly linked to the island's cultural heritage, as most of the land is privately owned and agriculturally used. The trails are usually very old and were used to connect the remote Fincas among each other and with the bigger villages.
As a result, a wide range of hikes is offered, from the half-day trip to an excursion of two or more days. On your way you will discover deserted Fincas, ancient snow houses, charcoal burner's huts, lime kilns and terraces. Nonetheless, the trails are sometimes marked only weakly and in the central parts of the mountain range, it can take a day to reach the next road. When the weather changes and gets foggy, even locals get lost up there. Consequently, it is a good idea to get good maps of the area you will visit as well as the usual gear you'd take for a trip to the mountains.
The village of Sóller and the Monastery of Lluc are the most important - and most popular - starting points for the hikes and for some kind of "hill walking" you'd rather expect to find in Scotland. Something like a dozen of peaks exist which have elevations higher than 1.000m, and, believe it or not, they are sometimes even covered by snow during winter time. All of the peaks can be accessed rather easily, expect from the Puig Mayor, the highest mountain on the island which hosts a military radar station on top (1.443m). It doesn't take much to hike in Mallorca, but it can be very rewarding if you wish to escape the masses of the south.
Try to avoid the summer heat (June till October), as it is very hot and dry in these months and you will hardly find any shade in the mountains - and all the springs will be dried out during summer. The rest of the year should offer usually fine weather, but always expect strong winds, rain showers and thunderstorms during your trip.
Even in May the weather could be bad and rainy. Also a little bit cold in the evening. Don't forget a pullover or jacket. In summer you definetly need sun lotion with a high protection factor. If you plan not to stay at the beach the whole time you can find many subjects to take pictures. If you buy a film at the tourist places it is more expensive. Like everywhere
