What do see and do on Mallorca???
by Bigs
Check out the countryside of Mallorca. You will find the real Mallorca, not the touristic side......
Must sees are: Palma, Soller, Valdemossa and Alcudia (Alcudia not on a market day in August!) and a ride along the north west coastline! The relaxing finca we stayed on..... and our nearly private pool there!
A quick tip for stalkers
by sourbugger
Majorca has an almost 'Jekyell and Hyde' feel to it - on the one hand it has vast swathes of hotels for holidaymakers on a budget, but up in the hills around Deia you can find secluded mansions housing the rich and famous.
Richard Branson has long had a home here, and visiting stars of his recording company have been known to jam In the local bar.
Two of Majorca's newest residents are causing a stir as well - Majorca has become one of the choosen homes of one of the most famous couples in Hollywood - Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones.
Telephoto lenses at the ready, to get a good look at the welsh tart topless.
Sóller
by Kristina1701
Sóller is a lovely little village in the mountains. There's not that much to do though, just stroll through the narrow streets, have a look at the church and check out some of the cake shops! hehe
The most popular way to get there is by the historical train which runs between Sóller and Palma.
Royal holidays
by DanielF
This is a picture of Marivent Palace, the place where the Spanish royal family spend their summer holidays every year.
The very thing that most strikes me about the island of Majorca is how wonderfully it can fit within its miniscule territory so very different kinds of visitors, ranging from royals and global A-listers to factory workers from Sheffield or Castrop-Rauxel, including eco-travelers and sophisticated city-weekenders. Despite its awful press, so many people cannot be wrong, especially when one remarks that so many first-time visitors become totally addicted to the island and keep on returning as often as they can.
There is one celebrity story that really illustrates the passion with which Majorca-lovers return to their island regularly. Michael Douglas, a Hollywood celebrity, and ex wife of 18 years Diandra time-share a historic property on the West Coast called S'Estaca, formerly owned by Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria -even Empress Sissi had vacationed there. During their marriage years, they extensively renovated the property to the 20th century standards. The views, gardens and the history that the mansion oozes are frankly incomparable. Apparently, when they divorced in 2000, of all the properties they owned, none of them was willing to give up S'Estaca and that is why they still time-share and keep on coming back regularly with their new families during their time allowance; so addictive Majorca can be. Even in far less glamourous residences, Majorca has had the same effect on me.
Looking for a nice golf course? Try Son Antem.
by gretapet
Son Antem is a resort / spa / golf course that is probably not more than a 15 minute drive from Palma. You have the choice of 2 18 hole courses. We immediately fell in love with the surroundings.
My husband and I are both beginners so we took the cheapest tee time at high noon. Geez it was hot! Oh, and the other mistake we made was that we decided to pull our bags around instead of renting a cart! Learn from us. Rent a cart! Other than that, the course was gorgeous. . We took a break at 9 holes to have lunch out on the terrace. The sandwiches were expensive but the beer was nice and cold. Just what we needed.
There is also a driving range and putting green. Actually there is something for everyone at this place. If you're with someone who doesn't like to play golf, they can play tennis instead, or have a relaxing spa treatment. We will definitely be back! Clubs of course! Bring a hat, sunscreen, camera, water, and patience!
Bags and carts can be rented from the clubhouse if you don't have them with you.
