We had a great time. Hotel america is lovely

by TripAdvisor Member millimop

The Hotel America is lovely. Each room has a view over the sea. Really spectacular. The food was good, the pools were clean and well kept. Lots of sunbeds a real pleasure. The staff were helpful. Callas de Majorca is small, e few shops and bars. We were there for the end of the season, the weather wasn't too good and some things were closed. The entertainment wasn't brilliant. Still had a good holiday. Going back next year.

Fantastico

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at the Hotel America in early October 2004 and had a great time, this was helped by the fantastic weather (30 degrees in October). The hotel rooms are quite basic but more than adequate. The hotel is set in a fantastic location with the beach on one side (down a hill) and the resort centre on the other side. All rooms have a sea view which is an added bonus. The beach is a nice little cove although take care in the sea (especially if you have young children) as it was quite rough whilst we were there. The resort is a nice size with plenty of shops, bars to keep you occupied (although the bars were very quiet when we went). Food at the hotel is good with plenty of choice. The entertainment is ok (good if you have children as there was an early disco for the kids each night) although a lot of the entertainment was in spanish and the english of the entertainer wasn't too good. All in all a good value for money holiday.

Don't listen to the bad reviews

by A TripAdvisor Member

I travelled to Mallorca for the first time in June and also it was my first holliday without the childre (which was great). On booking my holiday i did as most people do and read the reveiws of the hotel, these were not at all good and i even thought of canceling my holiday at the last minute. All i can really say is that the hotel was fantastic, it was so clean and tidy, my room was cleaned every day, and every time you walked anywhere thre were maids cleaning different areas. The food was not at all what you expect from an all inclusive holiday, there was the restaurnat serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. An a la carte restaurant (need to book 24 hours in advance), a pizzeria open from 12, pool side bar serving snacks (burgers, chips, hotdogs, and fridge of cold meat, fruit, bread etc), there is even an outside barbecue complte with chef available from 5pm.

The surrounding area was also clean and tidy and so nice to sit and relax in. I have tried and tried and really can't think of a bad thing to say, in fact i was that implresses that i am returning next year with children and friends in tow.

I would recomend anyone who want a relaxing peaceful time, without the hassle of cooking, cleaning and financial issues to go and stay at Hotel America.

Best Holiday Ever

by A TripAdvisor Member

Don't listen to the bad reviews of this hotel. It has recently been fully refurbished (I was told this by a couple that had been holidaying at the America for the past 8 years!) and is lovely. Very clean, nicely furnished, wonderful views and fantastic staff. The food was good with plenty of choice and plenty of beer, wines and spirits to drink in all the bars.
I booked last minute to go fully inclusive, on my own and was a little nervous as this was the 1st time I'd travelled alone. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make sure I was ok. The resort is quite quiet, ideal for couples of all ages, people with young families or people holidaying on their own.
The beach was beautiful with golden sands and a very clear, very shallow sea. Could be a problem for some people though as you had to go down quite a few steps to get there.
I only booked a week but loved it so much that I'm going back next year for a fortnight. You won't regret if you book the Hotel America.

highly reccomend!

My partner and I have just come back from a week in Hotel America and we loved it! We were put in a newer part of the hotel which was slightly separate from the main part and it was excellent. The room was large, modern and clean, with excellent maid service. But by far the best thing was the view. We were a stones throw from the sea and could sit and watch the fishing and pleasure boats go up and down. The meals were of a good standard and the service good. We were a bit disappointed with Calas de Mallorca itself as its just a little man made town with a few shops and bars with no real character. However, the local buses stopped outside and you can catch it anywhere on the east coast of Mallorca. We visited Porto Cristo, Calla Bona and Calla Millor for just a few Euros. The entertainment in the hotel wasnt too good but there was a coulple of bars in the town with something to offer. We didnt go fully inclusive as we like to eat out but I must admit that we were a bit naughty at times as we were never asked to pay for drinks, even though we didnt hide the fact that we had no wrist band on! All in all it was a lovely holiday and we would recommend it to anyone.

what a dissapointment!

by TripAdvisor Member BONDYxx

We arrived back from hotel America on the 15th October 2005. We had stayed there for two weeks on an all-inclusive package! We had booked this holiday after careful consideration and also reading many reviews!

On arrival to Majorca we had to make our own way and find a coach to take us to the Hotel. There was no Rep! I have never come across this before.

Once getting to the Hotel, we were checked in by reception staff who gave us our rooms. There was FIVE of us in the party. £ children aged 12,15 and 16 and my partner and myself.

The rooms were very nice. Cleaned every day.

The lifts were tempremental and broke down almost every night/day during our stay. One person seemed to always get stuck in them on a daily basis. This was reported to staff but no servicing of the lifts were carried out during our stay so the problem continued.

Ok on to the real gripes.

All-Inclusive, well if you stay here I think you will find (especially if you have travelled before) this hotel is not half as good as it could be.

One restaurant serving buffet style meals, oh yes indeed it did, but the meals were repeated time and time again. The salad was warm and wilting. The food was often luke warm. Chips every night for the kids (what a stable diet).

This is the only hotel I have not been able to finish off my evening dinner with a nice cup of coffee! You just sImply are not allowed it!

No snacks available in the hotel during the day!

Pizzeria shut down half way through our first week of the holiday.

No a la carte restaurant available (even after the Rep had told us at the welcome meeting that there was one available and you had to book a table via reception 24 hours prior to dining). wE WERE TOLD BY STAFF IT WAS SHUT DOWN BECAUSE IT WAS THE END OF THE SEASON!

The pool side bar served drinks only. No hot dogs, crisps or burgers for kids. Not even an icecream tub!

So I ask you what is included in the all inclusive package>?

No afternoon tea coffee and biscuits available either.

It was dire!

Pool bar was supposed to open at 8am, it never did til after 10 am. Some days it was shut all day and we had to walk up to the hotel main bar to get a drink and bring it out side. This was rather a long walk not to mention the safety aspects of carrying drinks up and down stairs.

The main bar was often not opened until 5pm during our second week (come on guys there was still a few more weeks to go til the hotel shut shop).

The bar closed at 12 midnight sharp. Infact on one occasion we were physically escotred out of the bar at a quater to twelve! We were not even drunk. The staff kicked off because they wanted to shut and clean up for the night.

Adults and children were limited to how many drinks they could get from the bar (even with a wrist band on). Travelling with a child with disabilities was rather a disadvantage at this hotel. Although our child was unable to go to the bar herself for drinks etc, the bar staff refused her older brother and sister getting her a drink.

In all fairness I did have this out with the hotel bar manager who bent the rules a little for us, but not until I voiced how ridiculous their bar rules were.

ENTERTAINMENT was a joke!

Through the day very little activities were arranged, even on rainy days (and we had many) the so called entertainment staff could not be bothered to do anything with the guests to ease their bordom.

By the way there were 2 entertainment staff on NOT 4 as they had earlier on in the season!

Basically the hotel was shutting down around our ears whilst us paying guests were still there, and tough luck to us all who had paid for the all inclusive facilities!

Ping pong ball, even my son had to go and buy bats and balls in order to play it. The table in the bar was housed behind chairs that were stacked as they were packing up for the end of the year!

Pool (which was locally charged for) was minus the white ball. Guess who had it? YES Entertainment Staff!

Some of the staff were really nice and friendly and some shall we say looked ready for home!

On approaching the Rep and Staff of the closure and lack of facilities all we were told was it was the END of the Season!

They forgot to leave that bit out of the brochure!

Like many others we had paid for facilities, food and drink and ended up with the dregs that were left over!

During Peak Season I dare say the Hotel would of been a lot better, and some who had holidayed their earlier on and had returned the same weeks as us were greatly dissapointed.

Would we atay there again? NOT in a million years!

Beach is near to hotel, just down some steps, nice little cove which is sheltered. A flag system is in operation, so take heed and watch out for the jellyfish!

just a fab hotel

by TripAdvisor Member japdwj

all the good reviews i read are correct just a smashing hotel and i will be going back.
the only negatives i have for the hotel is.
1. no waiter service which when you work all year the last thing you need is to que for food and drinks.
2. no pool towels avalible and room towels not to be taken from room.
3. cheap spirits tastes more like petrol but beer and wine fine.

but i must say more positives than negatives so book go and enjoy.
