You should take a slow train from Palma city to Puerto de Soller. This town is located on the northwest of the island, its the rocky area of the island. The scenery is quite beautiful when going by train.

In Palma City itself we went to the Tunnel. It is a Rock Bar for mostly people young enough to be our children. Who cares we still love loud music.
In Palma Nova there are hundreds of bars and restaurants.Magaluf merges into Palma Nova.
Alcudia is further away but still quite a big resort.
There are various music bars , lots of English style pubs and restaurants for the homesick.
There is something for everyone. Anything goes.
Nice location overlooking the fishing boats in the harbour. Open all day but gets busy from late afternoon / early evening. Live music on Thursday and Friday evenings. I had some tapas - toasted bread with garlic, meatballs, spanish tortilla etc. Chris, my Wife, had sea-bass. Both meals were very good. Service, drinks and wine were very good.
We'll be back.

We went on an organised excursion to see the Caves Of Drach located in Puerto Cristo. This is a taste of the real Majorca ,a chance to see some history of the island which I believe is a must see.
The caves are deliciously cool which is extremely refreshing during the hot summer days.Once you have walked down the steps what surrounds you is amazing.
There are stalagmites and stalactites everywhere in beautiful formations, surrounded by pools and lakes.
By the underground lake there is seating and the lighting is then taken away so you sit in complete darkness.Once it goes dark, you listen to a short classical music concert which is hauntingly beautiful.Along the dark water you see a boat lit up by lights and it drifts along to the music. It disappears then another floats by and it seems as if they are almost empty ghost boats. The lights reflect on the water and create a magical environment. Its very tranquil. Its hard to explain the moment unless you've been there.
Go to Palma & get to the train station early & catch the train to Soller.
The real Majorca, away from the tourist resorts.
There are plenty of cake shops (as you can see, Rob is eating again !!!).
