Great views on the journey to Cap de Formentor
Cathedral (Palma de Mallorca, Spain)
Bellver Castle
Placa Major
Hello everybody!
I'm visiting Palma with a friend for a long weekend 30/1-01/02 2009 and I would need some tips about what to do? Last time I visited Palma was i 1997, which means that I don't remember so much. Anyway, I've read most of the posts here, about the old town, the cathedral etc, but I'd be grateful if you could give us a few concrete suggestions about "must see" restaurants, clubs/bars, cultural objects/places.
If there's not to much to do in the city, we are also considering renting a car for a day to be able to make a trip into the island in order to see the nature.
Thanks in advance!
Hi. 3 days It's a short period of time, What a pitty! ;-). But you can easily:
i). Visit Soller (1 day trip):
- By train. You must take the "old" train at "Plaza España".
- By car
ii). Visit "Castell de Bellver". (1/2 day)
iii). Find restaurants in "Gènova". Some restaurants are "Sa Caseta" or "Ca'n Pedro".
iv). Find some "nigth-life" in:
-"Blues Ville" pub in Palma de Mallorca for some live music. http://www.bluesvillebar.com/
- Or "Club Sart" in Inca (25 km away from Palma). http://www.sart17.com/
Note: ii), iii) and iv) can be visited the same day. i) and ii) can be visited the same day too.
If you want you can rent a car and see the nature (as you said). You can visit:
i). "Monestir de Sant Salvador" - located in "Felanitx".(1 day trip).

ii). "Castell de Santueri" - Located in Felanitx.(1 day trip).

How about vintage electric train to Soller, then tram to Port de Soller?
Check FC de Soller website (Google) for times. Sometimes in winter services disrupted for track maintenance. Not always, though!
Super mountaiun scenery on descent into Soller (quite an attractive small town).
It's included. Point i).
;-)

the cyberspot to visit, to collect your email via yachtemail.com You will find this place after resturant La Lubina at the comercial key opposite the Cathedral. Meet there Jan or Aalt, two crazy dutchmen who run this place.
Our favourite restaurant was Lunas Grill in Alcudia
The setting of Lunas Grill is really realxing. Its an open air restaurant right on the main street next to all the shops so you can sit and watch the world go by.Whilst you eat there is music and live singing from a small stage amongst the seating area. There are candle oil burners at the tables (to keep the flies away, but romantic all the same) and generally it just has a good cosy atmosphere. The best dish was their own speciality called the 'Luna Kebab.' They were cooked on display to entice you to eat there and it worked for us! The kebabs are massive (large chunks of chargrilled meat)
and are then served with a sauce topping and salad and chips.I think the meal cost about 1500 pesatas (about £6).
If you walk in Palma keep your eyes open for little suprise views like this... I've learned in Mallorca to look at every open door, half open gate and waht else that allows me to take a peak at a possible treasure. A thing i still do today..
The former Consulado del Mar is situated close to La Lonja and houses today the seat of the autonomous government of the Balearic Islands. In the interior we can find an outstanding Renaissance gallery of the 17th century.
