The cathedral
by Klod5
Georges Sand, on this book, said the cathedral of Palma (that she found awful), that she looked like an immense stranded vessel.
The building is there, very close to water, immense, excessive, massif. Proud and incongruous building. It hardly inspired me, except this view, since its square, on the sea.
HipHop Club
by Sara78 about La Rue
This is another one of my regular?s. It?s sort of a hihop club with music from r?n?b to reggae. Outside it looks very small and maybe not very appealing but the interior is quite nice. It?s not very big and the air conditioning is not very good. But the atmosphere and the music make up for it. No dress code
Tops for traditional paella
by Tricky_Dicky69 about Arrosseira Ca Cranca
Not easy to find the entrance, it's just a small doorway to some stairs leading to the first floor. The restaurant is situated right on the sea front and is not aimed at the tourist, more for the locals.
We arrived early, it was empty, and were given a table overlooking the harbour and the Cathedral in the distance. The staff were friendly but their english was as limited as my spanish. The menu consisted of mainly seafood and paella. Not too much for the meat eaters. The wine list was quite large and reasonably priced. The restaurant quickly filled, mainly with locals, which is usually a good sign. Food was very good. We had a paella which was excellent and authentic.

Bellver Castle
by russian_yaz
You will enjoy a wonderfull view from the top of the hill where this castle is located, 137 mt above the sea level.
It is hard to believe that this castle has been standing for almost 700 years. Begun by Jaume II in 1300 and built by Pere Salva, the architect of the Almudaina Palace, it is unique among European castles in being entirely round. For many centuries the castle was used as a prison. These days it contains Palma's museum of municipal history.
The entrance fee in the museum is 4 euros for tourists and 2 euros for locals. On holydays and weekends the entrence is free. It's worthy to visit the museum, it has all the history of the city within it's walls.
Green Shutters everywhere on the buildings
by dlytle
Something for you to notice is that almost all of the buildings are connected together. True homes, especially in the old town, are very rare. In this picture you see a building of family housing.
Also notice that the vast majority of family apartments and homes have brightly painted green shutters for both the windows and doors. In the United States shutters are used for decoration, but here they serve a purpose. They can be closed and locked for privacy and still allow a breeze to cool the rooms in the summer--kind of like a screen door.
Although I remember our guide saying something about the fact that green shutters are a carry over from muslim traditions, I cannot remember the explanation. I've looked on the internet for that information but to no avail.
You may also noticed people don't have yards--which in my opinion is not a bad thing!.
