Hi all,
My husband and I are visiting Majorca for the first time, would appreciate if you could suggest some places that we shouldn't miss seeing. Does anyone know how to get to the caves which has the stalactites and stalagmites, I believe its near Coves D'Arta. We are staying at Can Pastilla, hotel ORLEANS, any impressions of that place. We travel 24th april, hope the weather will be sunny, does anyone know. Would love to hear your comments/suggestions, thanks :-)
Do yourselfs a big favor and rent a car for a day or 2. Visit places like Arta, Andraitx, Alcudia, cabo de Formentor, Soller. Though Soller can be reached very nicely with the old vintage train that departs from Palma trainstation over the mountain range. Use you rcar also to visit a few of the little beaches and coves that you´ll find everywhere around Mallorca. More rough on the westcoast, more gentle and sandy on the east coast. And of course don't forget Valldemosa (easy to reach from Palma by bus or with your car). THe place where Chopin and George Sand lived for a while.
Take a day to explore Plama itself. The Cathedral La Seu, the old part with its very narrow streets and the arabian baths (or what's left of them), the boulevard, the Miro museum and much much more.
To visit the Cuevas de Drach, ask info at your hotel's reception. They can tell you all about how to get there individually or with a group.
From my limited experience, arpil is a very nice month to visit the island. Not too warm yet but comfortable nice (bring a sweater or 2 for the colder moments), not too many tourists around yet either.
Quite a few people here on VT have nice pages about Mallorca. Check them out and see what they have to say about places, impressions and all that. It is a nice start of the holiday
If you're renting a car, then Deia is a wonderful town to visit. It's very charming and quaint, and has many galleries and little stores. In fact, Michael Douglas apparently has a house there somewhere...
