We weren't staying this time as we had two nights in the hotel born but we had stayed before and just wanted to revisit. Last time had been a very enjoyable 5 days a couple of years ago before the refurbishment.
It was the end of November and we had taken a leisurely stroll along the front. Remembering the views from the Horizonte we made for the bar and had a couple of drinks and a snack lunch. Where the time went we don't know. Very reasonable prices and a grand view of the marina and port. Does not appear to be used by English tour companies - German and Dutch predominate.
Unique Quality: The view from the Bar - A little out of town but the number 1 bus runs all the way along the front and it is a stiff ten minute walk up the steps to the hotel.(Porto Pio stop) Alternatively the number 6 takes the back route and drops you by the front door
See the google earth pic- top of hotel sunroof area shows a white strip towards top left hand side.
Try not to let the 'large' private boats upset you.

My holidays in palma
During my holidays in april, i visited Palma de mallorca. It's a beautiful town where one can enjoy sun beaches and cultural visits ( the cathedral...). It's an unique and enjoyable environment. Moreover, I was there during Holy Week and i attended several processions. The whole city attended it : it was impressive. I discover hotel Horizonte, located near the center of Palma. I enjoyed Its peacefulness and its very nice team.
Unique Quality: There are two swimming pool one of which with jacuzzi. Wonderfull room with fantastic panoramic view of the bay of Palma Internet, bar, laundry, rent a bike, billiards, solarium, barbecue every thursday ...
Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

We are going to Palma shortly staying at the Hotel Horizonte, if anyone has stayed there and could offer their opinions I would appreciate it. We could also do with some "must do activities" in Palma City itself. I have heard that there is a 10 day festival in the City in February but I cant find any info. Thanks in advance

Hi Russ, The hotel is quite far out from the centre of Palma and is up a steep hill. There is a good bus service from the bottom of the hill and it is about a half hour to the centre of Palma by a circuitous route. You could walk it in not much longer. The hotel is modern and clean and fairly charmless. Strangely, you have to leave a deposit for the remote control for the tv. The breakfasts are excellent with a very wide choice, served in a bright cheerful room with a view over the port. There is nothing much to attract you locally, although there is a good American-style shopping mall. I recommend a local restaurant called Rififi which is excellent for Spanish food. High quality and reasonable prices. It's closed on Tuesdays or Wednesdays - check it out on the web. In Palma itself, an excellent restaurant, again with Spanish food, is the Pope (pronounced poppy). Very reasonable prices, local clientelle, not touristy. It is up a side street near the cathedral. Ask a policeman! Let me know if you want further info. Colin Cox, Glasgow

It does depend on what you are after... To me the cathedral with Gaudi's chandelier is a must see. Next door, the Palau de l'Almudaina is also worth seeing. Depending on the season the tourist office might organise walks around the old town - worth checking out. For food we like this tiny tapas place around the corner from Av. Jaime III, off Pl. Rei Joan Carles. It is called El Pilon and lies in and 'alley' called Can Cifre.
The 'must see' bar is Abaco, off c'Apuntadors in c/S. Juan. It is expensive, it is an old mallorquin mansion/ town house, but worth it, even if you go for 1 drink. Try and get there fairly 'late' just before 2 am - there is a shower of flower petals falling 'in tune' with the music. The doorway looks slightly imposing, and will most likely only be ajar, but do go in. Consider it 'once in a lifetime'...
The festival you are talking about might be the festival before lent, Sa Rua. You would have to check either with the tourist office or a religious calendar.
There are two swimming pool one of which with jacuzzi. Wonderfull room with fantastic panoramic view of the bay of Palma Internet, bar, laundry, rent a bike, billiards, solarium, barbecue every thursday ...
