Get out of the tourist resorts...
Get out of the tourist resorts & see the rest of Majorca. It's quite a bit island & has some really nice scenery - especially on the north of the island which only really has one majory resort (Alcudia)

HI
MY HUSBAND AND I ARE ARRIVING IN PALMA ON TUESDAY MORNING AND OUR CRUISE SHIP LEAVES PALMA IN THE EVENING. WE THEREFORE HAVE ONE WHOLE DAY IN WHICK TO GET TO AND EXPLORE PALMA. WE HAVE NOT BEEN INTO PALMA SINCE OUR HONEYMOON 28 YEARS AGO SO WE ARE KEEN TO GO BACK ON THIS TRIP.
COULD YOU ADVISE HOW TO GET INTO THE CITY FROM THE CRUISE SHIP PORT PLEASE? I BELIEVE OUR SHIPS WILL BE IN DOCK QUITE A WAY BACK AND SO THEY USUALLY CHARGE JUST TO GET YOU OFF THE PORT (CHEEKY). WOULD IT JUST BE BEST TO GET A TAXI FROM THE END OF THE PORT OR ARE THERE BUSES AVAILABLE DO YOU KNOW? ANY INFO WOULD BE WELCOME. THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR ATTENTION.
ALSO ANY PLACES AROUND THE TOWN WE SHOULD MAKE TIME TO SEE? THANKS AGAIN!
HAVE A GREAT DAY
I think the easiest way to get around all the important sights would be to take the Hop-on-Hop-off bus tour. There is a stop near the port where the cruise ships dock ( not sure where yours is dacing but I'm sure you will be able to walk to the bus stop). The bus will take you to all the main sights such as the Cathedral and the Almudaina Palace opposite it, the Pueblo Espanol, the Bellver Castle. You can book tkts in advance and get all the info on:
www.city-discovery.com
Whether you take this tour or not I would recommend the Cathedral as probably the 'must-see'sight in Palma.
Enjoy your visit! AM
THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR PROMPT REPLY. LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR DAY IN PALMA ON TUESDAY. BEST REGARDS AND HAVE A NICE DAY, ALISON.
I had a chance to be in Palma on a cruise this summer and would like to tell you that the port is located just near city center on the paseo maritimo. You can take a hop on hop off bus however my suggestion would be to take a taxi to the cathedral area, visit the Palacio de Almudena, which is just in front of the cathedral and later at a walking distance you have the plaza mayor area and the city center with a lot of visitng and shopping options.
have a great trip.
best regards
Mahesh
There is much good advice already from others. Just thought I'd add that when we arrived in Palma by cruise ship a couple of years ago, the ship offered a bus into town for about 2-4 Euros each way. It let us off at a stop across from Le Seu Cathedral. From there we could walk to Almudaina Palace & Gardens, the Plaza, a few other sites of interest and a few pubs & shops. We arrived on a Sunday and a lot of places were closed. At that time, no one told us about the hop-on/hop-off sightseeing bus and if it goes further around the island than the places I mentioned, it would probably be worthwhile as the heat was very intense when we visited and walking took a lot of effort in the heat.

Rent a car and go the beach were you probaly don't run in to you fellow Swedish, Danish, German, Dutch country man. This is a wide and very nice beach with mainly Mallorca local visitors.
The sand is clean and white - the water is fine and the big fancy yatchs from Palma anchors off shore all along the beach.
The beach is located just north of "Ses Salines" on the south-west coast.

Palma Airport, situated 9 km from the city. Tel. 971-78 90 00 (switchboard) Telf. 971-26 26 00 (Iberia)
Getting to Palma (PMI) is very easy from most countries in Europe. Most major cities have regular charter, Low cost or scheduled flights to Palma, although these do reduce in the Winter months (November to March)
Flights from the United Kingdom and Germany are most prominent, the latter having daily shuttle flights to the likes of Berlin, Munich, Dusseldorf and Paderborn/Lippstadt with Air Berlin and Condor.
From the UK, Easyjet, bmi baby, Monarch Crown and JET2 are the best bets as they are cheap and frquent. Jet2 £41.40 from Leeds Bradford is a great price!!
very nice trip through the mountains from Palma to Soller a small ex-fishing village , there you can go to the beach , eat in one of the restaurants near the harbour or just walk along the promenade. Good day trip from Palma area. You can go also by rental car then you have to pay toll for the tunnel or you over the mountain on a very small road but its worthwhile.
Arenal, the nearest beach to the city. Only 20 minutes on bus, take 15 from Plaza Espanya and it will drop U there. Is the tipical tourist place, lot of hotels and souvenirs shops. But nevertheless, take sometime to walk there, it has a good view. A long walk just side by side to the shore. U can rent a bicicle or just do it walking.
