One day in Palma

by traveld

I'll be arriving via cruise ship and have a few hours, 9:30 am to 3pm to visit in the area. I am interested in going to the Caves of Drach. How much time should I allow for this excursion? What is the best and easiest way to get to the caves from the cruise dock and back? After the caves, will I have time to see anything else in the area? Any suggestions?

to be honest the caves are not a viable option you will never do it in time see the sights of PALMA Instead

The caves are in the opposite side of the island, about 70 km far away. So, you'll spend a couple of hours just going and returning. If your cruise organise any tour, or if you take a taxi (very expensive!) would be your only possibities. I would as well just explore Palma.

Agree with the previous posters. The caves are miles away and not especially good IMO.

You'd be better off taking a tour of Palma in the time available

..... it is a shame that you aren't there for a bit longer - the train to Soller and return is a very good day trip (you may be able to just about fit it in perhaps??) It might be worth asking on VT to see whether anyone thinks that is a viable option for you.. hope that this helps

Is a visit to Soller a viable option instead?

Thank you all

Thank you. You are correct. It would be much less stressful to see the sights in Palma, rather than venture out and risk missing the boat!

What other sights do you recommend after the Cathedral?

Sangria and Flamenco

by vesna04

If you don't taste some sangria and don't see flamenco dance it is like you have not been in Spain. Aldough I think Mallorca is not "real" Spain you should give it a try. That castanets sound in live and those colerful dresses are realy something and it is even better taken with sangria!

I love the sixties and seventies!

by russian_yaz about Motown bar

You love 60's and 70's? Then this is your place. Each weekend, including fridays, live music, cover bands that will play for U the songs U like to hear from groups as Zeppelin, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Rare Earth, Earht Wind & Fire and others. Last friday I was there and it was great. People dancing, singing together and having fun. The place is full of posters and pics of famous icons of that moment, Janis Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison, Elvis and Beatles. For sure U'll have a wonderfull night. Casual, no shorts

Excellent food & setting

by pugwashman about L'arcada Restaurant

The L'Arcada restaurnat is situated along the main road in Cala Figuera on Mallorca's east coast.
It is a pretty little port and town and this restaurant has tables outside where you can look over to the sea as you dine.
The food was all excellent and we had some different dishes such as dates wrapped in bacon (a mallorcan speciality) and Escaldums (Pork meatballs).
If you're passing this way this is definitely worth stopping at. Dates wrapped in bacon = delicious

La Lotja (Lonja)

by Fam_Stoica

Some of the most distinguished Majorcan work of the 15th century was done by the sculptor and architect Guillermo Sagrera, who built the La Lonja of Palma.

In one of the doorways of this building stands the splendid figure of an archangel, revealing an extraordinary mastery of technique. The exterior of the building has some expertly executed gargoyles. The interior with its slender columns and fine vaulting is a wondeful piece of Mediterranean gothic.

Dad giving daughters Nichola & Natalie some fatherly advice on what to do & not do. Looking at their faces, do you think they're taking any notice ? Nah, neither do I, they probably have more sense than me anyway !!!
