Palma is the province capital...
by rla
Palma is the province capital of the island of Mallorca. It is the main commercial area with more than 300,000 people living. In Palma you should visit the Cathedral, a majestic gothic-barroque building, a great example of both styles. But if Mallorca is famous for a thing, it is for the beaches, coral blue water with white sand beaches, reminds you a lot to the caribbean.
Na Burguesa
by Mique
There is this spot called Naburguesa. I'm not sure wether the mountain is called that way or maybe something else. Anyways, if you want to head up the mountain with the statue on top, then the signs 'Naburguesa' is what you should follow. It is not easy to find the road to this place but it is well worth the effort (or maybe it is better indicated by now). The view over Palma is amazing. If you go there by night, take care. The road winds its way up..
Apparently there is a restaurant and terras of sorts on top now..
Superb Palma Restaurant missing from your list
by CaptainJim about Cellar Supremsa (Suprema?)
In the center of Palma about a 15 minute walk from the cathedral is (or used to be) a wonderful local restaurant that had as many - maybe more - locals than tourists. Cellar has a Bodega theme with huge dark wood sherry or wine aging casks embedded in the walls. Tables are basic bench type with typical chequered table cloths. Tapas, other appetizers, and entrees were all reasonably priced and wonderful each time I visited and ate there. Do not, do not, miss the gazpacho - best I've ever had, bar none; and, believe me I've looked, tasted and compared elsewhere. I made it a don't miss stop during the several visits I made to Palma over a 27 year US Navy career with numerous ship visits to this wonderful island. Something for everyone from young teenagers to seniors who remain young at heart. Hope that restaurant is still there - it is a do not miss type.
A safety tip as well - Sadly, last two visits were marred by a purse snatcher-thief in restaurant-bars visited at night. Ladies need to keep thier handbags close by and attached to their persons. Modus Operandi was to take advantage of a distraction - loud band, celebration, etc. and next thing you knew, the purse had gone missing. Local authorities were sympathetic, but could not offer much.
Simply a matter of maintaining situational awareness and being careful in a strange - even if wonderful - place.
Palma was and will always remain one of my favorite places to visit, relax and enjoy the slower pace of Mediterannean life and culture.
All the best for adventure, new places and experiences.
Thanks for a sounding board and hope someone finds this restaurant still open - believe me, you won't be disappointed.
Ride with a historical tramway
by nessie-ch
From Palma to Soller there exists still a historical train. I was told, that when they built it, the distance was not enough long for getting subventions from the state, so the people of Soller decided to make it more longer to the port of the city... So now you have the possibility to take this train only for a short distance and it's funny...
Arc of the Drassana Reial
by dlytle
Nearby to the Palma Cathedral and the Almudaina Palace one finds a very lovely arch with a pond. There are several views available of this arch but I found this one on the outside of the area to be the best. I really do not have much information about this arch but it is one of the oldest structures to be found.
From what I could determine, this large Gothic archway and pond, the Arc of the Drassana Reial, dates back to Arab times in the 13th century, when it was the entrance to the royal shipyards beside the palace.
