Take the bus.

Don't bother with a taxi into town from the airport, get the bus instead. Unless you have loads of luggage ans kids you can take Bus No. 1 from just outside the terminal building as this runs right into central Palma and then along the Paseo Maritimo towards the port. The No. 1 service runs frequently - details can be found at www.a-palma.es
Buses around Palma are also easy, frequent & cheap. Download a map from the web-site and it's quite easy to find your way around. We didn't have a car and used the buses to go to Cala Mayor, Porto Pi shopping centre and S'Arenal. Most routes are a fixed fare and maps, which are at all bus stops, are easy to read.

Me and my husbond went to MALLORCA for the first time in 1972. We stopped in a hotell in EL ARENAL.This was our first trip to a a hot country.
We were so lucky to have a friend from PALMA ,whho lived in Norway. He was there on holiday at the same time,so we had a perfect guide. We was whith him and his family a several days. They took us everywhere. We went to CALA MAYOR,Ca'n PASTILLA,PLAZA de TOROS,BELLVEER CASTLE and of course PLAZA GOMILLA were all the restaurants and bars are. Also for long drives off the beaten path.
Second time we went was to a nice quite place in those days, ALCUDIA(1978).We hired bikes and drowe right in the middle of the streets. It was hardly any hotels there.
We went back to MALLORCA this summer(2000).We stopped in PUERTO DE SOLLER. Still a nice quite bay and town.
We went back to ALCUDIA,but we did not recognice the place at all.

Does anyone know of homestay opportunities in Palma or Cala Mayor?
by marematt
My husband and are planning on being in Mallorca for a school program. We would love to stay with a family to get to know the culture better, speak the language and make some friends. Does anyone have any leads? We are willing to pay for the accommodation. Thanks in advance!
