SOL BALMORAL

visited the sol balmoral for 5 nights in june and i have to confess i was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews on this website.
i was more than impressed with the sol balmoral, it is certainly top-value. we paid about £20 pppn for all inclusive - bargain!
yes the drinks are served in plastic cups - bothered!! its still the same drink! - hot chocolate particularly scrummy, nothing wrong with the beer & loads of choice for the kiddies - milkshakes, juices, water, pepsi etc. spirits are all local cheapy bits but most were drinkable!!
foodwise i felt there was an excellent selection available. yes there were some bits of food which were pretty much the same day after day but there was always something different each day too and some of it freshly cooked in front of you. desserts top drawer too , sponges were top notch.
brekka was top notch - english sausages, chipped potatoes, baked beans, mushrooms etc etc. good continental selection inc croissants, biscuits, cakes, juices etc as well as chhese, meats, fruit, yoghurts etc!
someone also complained on here about plates being taken away when you've finished your food - surely thats a good thing!! and besides you could always go back for 2nds / 3rds with a new plate. just looked like staff trying to keep a busy restaurant ticking over to me!
have to agree about snackbar being pretty much leftovers but to be honest 3 meals a day is plenty for me!
the room was basic but it was adequate, nice view from balcony, bathroom nice enough, loads of storage, regular maid service. no aircon in the rooms but a helpful fan and a nice breeze meant it wasnt really an issue.
my brother had his birthday while on holiday and the hotel left a bottle of sparkling wine in his room which was a nice touch.
internet corner reasonably priced - 3 euros for 60 mins.
soooo easy to get sunbeds no matter what time of day (later stayed in alcudia where we had to fight to get one at all)
swimming pool was good sized and not overly busy (ps extra pool near the other blocks that few people seemed to know was there!)
all communal areas nice & clean. always an army of cleaners about during the earkly mornings.
entertainment team tried really hard given the obvious low budget the hotel allocated them - 2 or 3 people working their bums off! - given this shows were good bit of light entertainment - ent team always getting kiddies involved
actual area was pretty quiet particularly in the evenings but it was never going to be like magalluf!! we managed to amuse ourselves most days though!
Armpits and HP Sauce!

Just returned from a week at the Sol Balmoral and can honestly say we will not be returning! The first 2 days we were there, there was a party of 100 plus Spanish 18-30 types who ran riot around the hotel day and night. The staff had no control over them and we were told they had actually been thrown out of another hotel due to their behaviour! So why put them here? There were queues to get in the so called restaurant (it was like eating in a fast food joint) at night because "The Spanish like to eat between 8 and 9" well so do the English! They came to meals dressed in swimwear and little else, despite their being signs displayed regarding dress code. On that matter, the dress of most of the customers left a lot to be desired! I really do not want to eat my meals surrounded by men in singlets and shorts displaying hairy armpits at all times of the day and night!
There were always queues at the one bar and drinks were served in small plastic cups and only one per customer per time! It was impossible to sit peacefully round the pool and people were jammed like sardines on the sunbeds around it!
On the positive side, the rooms were clean, the food good if repetitive and plenty of sun! On the negative side, I had my purse stolen in the nearby shopping centre, the local police station was closed (it only opens part time) and we had to spent £40 and 6 hours for a taxi to Manacor to report loss! If you want a restful, relaxing holiday do not choose the Sol Balmoral!
Sooooo BAD

Stayed at the Balmoral Sol for 1 week and hated it. The rooms were basic, the entertainment was in Spanish, food was pretty good but the service behind the bar wasn't so good. In the room there was no T.V., iron or hairdryer. The mirror was no where near the one power point. The pool was cold and the decor was dated. Our reps, when they finally showed up were unhelpful and didn't listen to the questions being asked. Apart from that the holiday was good because we went out every night.
great relaxing holiday

me and my boyfriend stayed for 10 night at the bamoral and really had a good time. the hotel was very clean but basic the staff were helpful the entertainment was not broadway but it was ok and the children loved it, the food was fantastic:-) was very pleased with the selection and the amount of food availbale. the hotel is ideal for both families and also for couples wanting a relaxing holiday. we are going again next year and have joint the sol holiday group i would recomend it to my friends.
not for young babies/toddlers

I stayed at this hotel for 10 nights and have just returned. I feel it was an ok holiday but nothing special. The good bits were, The weather, friendly staff and entertainment. The bad bits were drinking out of plastic cups for the whole of our stay, The food got boring after a while as it was the same old things, the snackbar well dont even go there it was leftovers from lunch/dinner times and was cold, also it is not suitible for young children, my child was 18 months and there were stairs going to the eating areas it must of been only 5 or 6 but even so it did get a bit annoying to keep picking up the buggy to get up the stairs, this was also the case for the pool area.Also i feel it was hard as we had no fridge in our room to put baby milk in and was told we could use fridge behind the reception but that was hard work keep coming up and down from our room to do that.Apart from that it was ok i feel it would be a nice holiday if you didnt have young children and dont mind what food you eat. Our hotel room was clean and tidy but a couple of days the sheets smelt a bit of dampness!
