Valledemossa

by orchid1949

I will be on a cruise with a stop in Palma Majorca about 5 hours. Please advise how I could visit Valledemossa on my own by public transport. From the port, if I take a bus into town, where do we take the bus to Valldemossa. How often the bus operates ?

It was some time ago, but I remember that Valldemossa is faraway from Palma(acording to the island standards). I seriously doubt that you can do it using public transport. I mean, reaching there, watching the village and return in less than five hours. Plus going from the harbour to the bus station and return... Palma is not a small city, so you should count with at least 20, 25 minutes to reach to the coach station..

Anyway, I wish you good luck.

Maybe

Sorry, I press the wrong buton.

Maybe I am wrong, and it is doable. Wait for more replies. Have you consideered to hire a taxi? Much more expensive for sure, but that gives you a chance.

Bye.

Thank you. I missed this chance last time so I just took a walk in Palma Majorca and visited the cathedral. But this time if it is possible, I wish I could do it, if not I don't know where to go. Or maybe I will take the excursion from the cruise which cost almost 50 Euro each.

As Miguel, I went some time ago), as well I went by our own car and with no time constraints. But my impression is that's feasible, but too rushed and spending most of your time on the way.

Here you have the timetables (in Catalan, but you have the stops and times, 'dilluns a divendres' = weekdays, 'dissabtes'= Saturdays, 'diumenges i festius' = Sundays and holidays)

So, it looks it takes 30 min the trip from Palma (I think from Plaça d'Espanya) to Valldemosa. But, in the best scenario, you will spend at least 30 min to arrive to Plaça d'Espanya, and then buy the tickets and wait for the next bus... and you must return on time enough to not loose your ship.

Not sure how much a taxi will cost, but my guess is about 30-40€ each way. So, with the entrance fees to the Cartuja, etc. it's about the same price as the tour. It really depends what else the tour offers (or if you prefer heading straight there and have all the time for you at your own pace)

happy travels!

Thank you. Any idea how much the taxi will cost? If I hire a taxi to take me there and back to the ship, would it be around 50-60 Euro withjout using taxi meter ?

Travel Tips for Palma de Mallorca

Great beaches

by ncfg

In Mallorca you can find hot, blue water and white sand. When i had been there i didn't go many times to the beach because i went to visit the Island. Every day there was a different place to visit and to explore. In Mallorca Island there are not only beautiful beaches, but there are amazing places to visit and enjoy, don't forget this.

Extremely violent water sports

by NunoF

On Muro beach in Alcudia, where I was, we could rent paddle boats trips and we could also rent this boats.
They could attain extremely high speeds (heheheh) depending of the strengh that you have in your legs heheheheh

The prices start at EUR 8,00 / hour

A voyage to the past, Soller Train

by russian_yaz

Go to Soller using this old wooden train. It crosses 13 tunnels, one of them 3 km long and also it goes trough beatifull valleys. Enjoy the views and in Soller walk trough the town.

The train departs from Palma each 1 and a half hour. The first one is at 8am. Last one to Palma from Soller departs at 7pm. On holydays, May, June, October it has another depart at 7:35pm.

The cost is 6 euros to Soller, 11 if U buy a two way ticket. My advice, take it from Palma and return in the bus.

Antique 'Wild West' Train to Soller

by amapola66

Hop on the Wild West Train from Palma Station to Soller in the north of the island.
This little antique train takes you on an hour long trip through stunning mountain scenery. If you get the tourist train (9 am ish), it will stop on route for you to take snaps of some truly lovely views of a picturesque village in the valleys (see pic).

When arriving in Soller, wander around the town for some quality food shopping and then jump on the little tram which takes you on a short trip (5km) through lemon and orange groves to the Port area of Soller. (If you avoid the tourist one, it is cheaper, not that it costs much normally, but the tourist one is emptier too).

The port area has a lovely beach, very shallow water in a picturesque bay for swimming and some cheap & charming hostals to stay in overnight. Although we found the restaurants rather unfriendly and not particularly amazing food wise, I'm sure if you had more time to choose carefully, something good could be found.

We were there end of Oct/early Nov and the weather was perfect for a day on the beach.

The train to Sóller was €7.20 (£4.40) return, single €4.40 (£2.70) in 2005
Highly recommended.

Safari park

by rcsparty

On the northeast side of the island there is a safari zoo that is a great place to spend time with kids. During one of the guys golf mornings, the wifes, grandparents, and kids headed to the zoo and had a fantastic time. The park exceeded all expectations.
