48 Hours in Palma

by Plasticchris

Hi,

Myself and my partner are staying for 2 nights in Palma at the beginning of February 2008. Does anybody have any advice on what to do and where to go to get the best out of such a short stay?

Thanks

Le Seu Cathedral. The Hop On Hop Off bus is good. I can't remember much more off the top of my head - did I put much on my Palma page? Can't remember that either - was there January 2007 for a weekend for my 40th. The replica old Palma place. Sorry! Brain isn't working at the moment.

There will be plenty of tips on this website though.

The Cathedrale is a must and the old town in the area behind the cathedrale is great for wondering and you'll find the old Arab baths here. The palace opposite the Cathedrale. (If I'm not mistaken it's free on Wednesdays if you take your passport along). The area of La llonja is good for eating tapas in the evening with a few good bars and great atmosphere. For views of the city Belvere Castle. Weekend nightlife is along the "paseo maritimo" / sea front. Santa Catalina area also good for eating out with small restaurants of all sorts from very economic to more pricey.

I think that the tourist bus is quite expensive and to be honest you can walk to most places in Palma and if you get a map and stick to the old town as much as possible it's really pleasant to have a wonder around.

Hi and welcome to VT. There is lots to do in and around the old city and most of it can be done on foot. For a day out there is a tourist train that goes up to Soller on the north of the island. I didn't get a chance to do the trip myself but I believe that the views are great. See my Palma page for a few more tips. Have a great time.

Overstayed Visa

by dbestofaman

I have a friend who is now in Palma de Mallorca. He was invited by his ex-boss to help him running a business there. He had been granted a 3-month tourist visa from Embassy of the Germany in Indonesia. After two months, there's no indication of getting a real job in that busniess and he is now running out of money. He is forced to work at other place to survive living in Mallorca and save money for going back home. What would happen if he stayed there for six months and then fly out of the country? Will he be arrested or pay penalty for overstaying? Please HELP!

Thank you very much for your kind attention!

Travel Tips for Palma de Mallorca

Behind the cathedral

by Mique

This street is somewhere in the area behind the cathedral. There you can find lots of tiny streets, little shops and of course the arabian baths. As always when you have enough tim eto explore everything and all for months one doesn't pay attention. So when i took this picture i didn't give it a thought. And ever since then i can't remember exactly where it is. Though i'd probably have no difficulty walking straight to this street if i was in Palma

I could say Ikea! but I'd say...

I could say Ikea! but I'd say most people should look at the suburbs, they're a complete culure shock and very different to the city centre.

It gives the whole picture of Palma, the good and the bad and makes your opinion more objective.

El Fenix

by hopesuzanne about El Fenix

This is a wonderful place to go on a lazy Sunday afternoon when most things are closed. While a bit pricy, it is well worth it. Some of the best food and service on the island. Paella ciega (that's cleaned off so you don't have to behead the shrimp yourself!)

talk to the cleaner

by tanneddarling

luckily for us the cleaner was going about her duties whilst we were there and told us quite a bit about the castle (including stories about people being locked in for the night at closing time)

it cost 2 euros per person to get in - and we had views of palma and beyond.

you can get into most areas of the castle (but not the tower) and there are little exhibitions in some parts.

some signage is onlly in mallorcian.

Marineland

by ncfg

Magalluf it is for sure a perfect place to stay, from there you can take bus for everywhere. Not far from there in Marineland you can see lots of animals and to see animals spectacles. So don’t miss, take a bus or a car and go there!

In the pic you may see the dolphin’s spectacle, it was great.
