Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
After three days encountering bad attitude from the employees at Barceló Hotel Nervión, we moved to Barceló Hotel Avenida. The two hotels belong to the same Barceló Clavel family, they have the same decoration throughout, the rates are the same, and most of the services are the same, but that’s where the similarity ends. First difference: Barceló Nervión is a three-star hotel, while Barceló Avenida is a four-star one. Second difference: About one minute after we walked up to the front desk of Barceló Avenida, we were greeted with a wide smile (all three people in the staff were busy with other guests up to that point). While we were treated with discontentment and silent stare at Barceló Nervión, we were made to feel well-cared for at Barceló Avenida. The staff spent time explaining everything to us, from where to find the best pintxos to which Wi-Fi connection method is least expensive. We were acknowledged with a greeting each time we passed by the desk, and every employee in the hotel was equally courteous and helpful. The restaurant staff, the housekeeping staff, the barkeeper, everyone seemed to be happy with their charges -- the job and the guests. In addition, our room here is much larger than at Nervión, and the glass partition between the bed, the pear-shaped bathtub, and the opaque door W.C. opens up the room even more. The view outside of our window is of a convent atop a hill covered with green grass and colourful flowers, the merging of outdoor and indoor makes the room much less impersonal. On the ground floor, the hotel is connected to a huge gym with pool, sauna, and full service beauty center. During our stay, the hotel’s special offer of dinner, sauna, and massage sounds positively alluring.
Same as with other BC Hotels, booking through their website is the surest way to receive the lowest rate. | | | | Barcelo Nervion Hotel: Very Nice Hotel, Not Very Nice Staff
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Barceló Hotel Nervión would be a great hotel had it been run by a more courteous staff. As a member of the Barceló Clavel Hoteles family, Barceló Hotel Nervión is a very nice hotel situated on the bank of Ría Nervión, a few steps from the Zubizuri Bridge and a very short walk to the Guggenheim. Our standard double room is of normal size but the bathroom is large and sparkling clean. Throughout the hotel, you can see your reflection from every gleaming surface. Just from a glance, there is a restaurant, a piano bar, a cafeteria, a gym for men, and a health care room for both men and women, all on the same ground level as you enter the hotel. There are enough services here to please just about everybody as a good hotel should. And it would, had it been run by a more courteous staff. There are four men who work at the front desk, only Andoni is pleasant, the other two are indifferent, and the last one -- Arturo -- is absolutely the worst. Arturo rolls his eyes and walks away from guests. He does not believe in handing anything over the counter, he would rather slide them. He does not know the worlds "hello", "goodbye", "thank you", and "you're welcome" in any language. When his mood strikes, he can be helpful to a certain limit and always with an attitude. That's the staff at the front desk. The staff in the restaurant fare no better. The hostess in the breakfast room is indifferent; the waiter in the cafeteria is downright rude. After three days putting up with their bad attitude, we went on the Internet to find another hotel. Our view of the Barceló Clavel family vastly improved when we moved to Barceló Avenida (see "Halleluiah, There Is A Great BC Hotel!")
Barceló Hotel Nervión claims one of the best locations in the city. If you decide to stay here, make sure to book through the company’s website. During our stay, the rack rate was €95 for a double room, but the web rate was only €55. If you need to recharge more than one electronic item daily, make sure to plan your strategy well because the only available outlet is located above the sink in the bathroom. The TV, A/C, and lights are all plugged into the same outlet that is hidden behind the heavy desk. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Best Western Hotel Conde Duque: Where The Bridge Ends
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
A typical Best Western Hotel, Conde Duque offers travellers the peace of mind in knowing they are in a good hotel and receive a good value for their money. The hotel is located on one of the best spots in the city, right across the famous Zubizuri Bridge. The rooms in Conde Duque are of good size and the bathroom is large, comfortable, and sparkling clean. The redwood floor is beautifully shined, making us feel guilty about pulling our luggage across it. The bed is not very large or long, however, but it fits us fine. There was only one front desk at the time we checked in. The combination of her limited English, her effort to be throughout with her job, and the constant interruption of the telephone made the wait unnecessarily long. The rate at Conde Duque is higher than at other three-star hotels in the same area and that is a strike against them. Never stayed there. There are a couple of cheap hotels from the Accor chain in Baracaldo, on the road to Bilbao. HOTEL FORMULE1 Bº Kareaga Norte, s/n 48903 BARAKALDO (VIZCAYA) Tel. 944180136 HOTEL IBIS Bº Kareaga Norte, s/n 48903 BARAKALDO (VIZCAYA) Tel. 944180160
Cheaper than other hotels in Bilbao. On the highway before entering Bilbao, oppositte the new trade fair ("Bilbao Exhibition Center"). There is a big shopping center just some meters away, and several buses conecting with Barakaldo and with Bilbao (aprox. 20 minutes). For cheap accommodation inside Bilbao, search "hostales" or "pensiones". Found this room for a very cheap rate ($76/night) on expedia.com. Located a 10 minute walk from the Guggenheim, and another 10 minutes in the opposite direction to the old city. The hotel also faces the river, along which is a wonderful pedestrian walkway that will lead you to most of your nearby destinations and bridges into the city center.
Hotel lobby and amenities (cyber corner, bar, cafe, bicycles available) were nice. Room was just okay. Funny thing: they advertise sound-proof rooms, but I could hear the neighbors on either side quite well. We had a pleasant stay here, it is a little family run pension. Right in the middle of the old town. So only thing you have to do get into the action is to open the door and get out :) You have two types of rooms, with bathroom, and with shared bathroom. But even the shared ones are very, very clean, so no worries there :) The rooms are big enough and clean, only one very small problem. As we dutch are a bit longer than the spanish, the beds can be a bit small sometimes LOL, but this is common throughout the whole of spain.
Right in the middle of the centre. Leave a Comment Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Calle Sombrereria 2Phone: 944169989Directions: in the CENTRE
