Transport: It's a bit out of town, but there are buses every 15-20 min. Bus 58
Rooms and all services of the lodging are distributed in 8 floors. On the ground floor you can find reception and other administrative departments.On this floor there are also laundry and telephones, cloakroom and safe-deposit box. On the first floor you have the hall with TV, video, etc., the meeting-room.dinning-room and access to Internet. From the second floor to the seventh floor you can find the bedrooms.They also offer Athetics, Football, Basketball, Table-tennis, etc.. There is also parking for cars and bicycles and a large landscape area..

We had a most enjoyable 2-night stay and wish it could have been longer. Originally, I had just made the reservation for one night, but reception was able to add the second night with no problems at virtually the same as the internet rate. Our room wasn't large, but had everything needed, including a good size flat screen TV with international channels (includg CNN), desk for computer and FREE WIFI,quiet refrigerator, plenty of closet space, safe in the closet, and the bathroom was large and all modern fixtures and lovely toiletries.
Parking is available, but is expensive and we lucked out to get a space on the road, right next to the hotel, which was free, being a weekend. WE only had to spend 2 Euros for a couple hours on Monday morning!
Nice bar area, which unfortunately we had no time to enjoy. Extensive breakfast buffet for additional cost.
The entire hotel is nicely done, quiet and very pleasant!! We had an inside room, opening onto a deep courtyard, but it was reasonably priced. The window opened if you wished, but also a good air-con system and blackout curtains.
There are Hesperia Hotels in many other cities throughout ESPANIA--may be well worth checking out!

The Carlton Hotel is not the hippest place to stay right now in Bilbao, but who the pop cares about soon-to-be-wonkatonk places when you can stay in a real Bilbaino institution? The Carlton was the first de luxe hotel in Bilbao and is listed as a historical monument. It was designed by Manuel María Smith, the preferred architect of the local bourgeoisie, in 1919 in an eclectic, English-inspired style. The common areas are sumptuous, with a large central lobby covered by an impressive stain-glassed dome. The rooms were renovated a few years back and are spacious, comfortable and filled with all the necessary amenities. The service is according with the category of the hotel.
Tourists with an interest in history will love to know that this hotel housed the Basque government offices during the Spanish civil war, until Bilbao fell to the rebel fascist troupes in June 1937. The Basque government was then moved to Barcelona.
