 | Lopez De Haro: A very pleasant surprise

I had booked, via http://www.findspainrooms.com/, three nights in the Hotel Ercilla (see the reviews on this site). However, I was in Bilbao for the "Semana Grande" (wanting to see El Juli fight, mostly) and they were fully booked. Would I mind staying at another hotel (same group)? I really wasn't bothered, but was delighted to discover that the new hotel, Lopez de Haro, was 5 star (1 more that Ercilla). So bear in mind that I was enjoying Lopez de Haro for 4 star, not 5 star prices. Nonetheless, I cannot fault it. Excellent service - the sort of service I thought disappeared twenty years ago. Helpful polite staff, nothing too much trouble. I was even allowed to check out in the late afternoon for no extra cost because I was catching a late flight. The restaurant was out of my league, price-wise, but then eating is never a problem in Spain. If the breakfast was anything to go by (I went twice - for an early breakfast, then just before it closed for mid-morning coffee and pastries) then the food should be fabulous.
