We had a pleasant stay here, it is a little family run pension. Right in the middle of the old town.
So only thing you have to do get into the action is to open the door and get out :)
You have two types of rooms, with bathroom, and with shared bathroom. But even the shared ones are very, very clean, so no worries there :)
The rooms are big enough and clean, only one very small problem.
As we dutch are a bit longer than the spanish, the beds can be a bit small sometimes LOL, but this is common throughout the whole of spain.
Right in the middle of the centre.
The hotel is located in the suburbs of the city next to big shopping centre. It's easy to go to the city with the car but I'm not sure about the public transport.
Simple and clean, nothing fancy. The breakfast was quite good, they had more thigs to choose then most of other hotels in the chain.
When I wrote this tip, there was a hotel shortage in Bilbao. This is not the case now, although it can be difficult to find accomodation at peak times, and the accomodation tends towards the upper end of the market. More hotels are still being built, such as a new IBIS hotel in General Concha.
Just check that the hotel you have found is in Bilbao. Some things sold as Bilbao can be out of town and may not be convenient for the city.
My favorite accomodation is www.bancotel.com you get bonus to stay in diferent hotels (3,4 starts) for only 50 euros the double room per night, great value and quality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In San Sebastian I would suggest you either a hostal in old town, eg. Pension Gran Bahia, C/Embeltran 16,
tel: 943.42.02.16 or the hotel Niza straigt at Playa Concha..both for prices double under 100 USD
I cannot remember the name of the Pension...It was in the old part of the city & the owners were very friendly.
The Basque country has many modern and elegant hotels, but also offers charming smaller establishments, camping sites and rooms in country houses, with full facilities and comfort at modest prices. In fact, this option of accommodation in a rural setting has recently become a good alternative for the tourist wishing to get closer to nature and experience the Basque customs, and to be received with a warm and personal welcome.
The Hotel is located in this Square (PLAZA MOUYA).
Pension Arsuaga (SAN SEBASTIAN)
£10 per person, per night
This clean and functional Pension is in the heart of the Old Town area and a short walk from the beach, surrounded by Tapas bars and pubs. The pension has rooms in other buildings around the town. Our room was in another building and we had 2 bathrooms (with bath and shower) between 5 of us, shared with only 1 other room. The staff were very friendly and the beds were comfortable and clean. Take ear plugs as the rooms are noisy!
£15 per person, per night in double rooms with private bathroom
Clean and functional 2 star hotel in the centre of the Old Town district of Bilbao, and a 20 minute riverside walk from the Museo Guggenheim. We took an internal room (away from street noise) with a private bathroom. It was perfectly fine and the staff were very friendly and informative.
