This hotel is one of my favourite parts of this vacation. The rooms were amazing, like most Sheratons, and have controlled ultra thick shutters to shut out the light after those long nights in the town.
Most of all,. the main lobby reaches way to the top, and i will never forget the glass elevator ride to the top floor (my room wasnt there, but i went snooping), and during approaching sunset seeing the beautiful way the natural sunlight makes the hallways glow. Almost as good as the pink palace!
Unique Quality: I went swimming as well, which is a swimming pool outside! imagine that! You can see the river through the glass wall. and there is a water stream spilling onto the pool from a couple feet above. Absolutely stunning. While you sleep the soothing sound of the water hitting the pool continues throughout.
This hotel was very cool! It was very modern (inside and out) with comfy beds and warming tiles in the bathroom - great feature for when you're getting in or out of the shower! The staff spoke very good English and they were very kind.
This hotel is close to the Guggie and there is a decent mall acrodd the street. Not much else in the immediate area. Only downside was that you had to walk a little ways to get to some of the more happening areas of Bilbao.
Unique Quality: Close to the Guggie!
Warming tiles in the bathroom.
I researched all of the top hotels in Bilbao for our first night in Spain. This hotel looked and sounded the best based on online pictures and descriptions. The pictures were impressive but did not fully capture how incredible the architecture is. The Guggenheim was closed the only day we were in Bilbao, but this hotel made up for it (and we were not in Spain to visit art museums; except one - see Figueres).
Unique Quality: The hotel has modern, inventive architecture with spacious rooms, extra comfy beds, beautiful lighting and designer bathrooms. The flash picture does not capture the true ambience of the room. We paid 146 Euro for room # 807 which has beautiful park and city views. The staff is multilingual and extremely helpful. It felt like a 5 star hotel at a 3-4 star hotel price.
Directions: Located at Calle Lehendakari Leiaola, 29 across the street from Zubiarte Shopping Center and a block from the river. It's about a 5-10 minute walk to the Guggenheim and 10-15 minute walk to Casco Viejo, the old town.
I haven't slept in this brand new hotel, I just came for a coffee and a quick visit. Located near the Guggenheim, in front of the Euskalduna Palace, this modern hotel deserves a visit to see its attractive atrium and the colorful decoration.
I think the rooms were about 200 euros/night.
