Bilbao - Madrid
Spain September 2000
Saturday 30 September
Our plane landed in Bilbao airport. The weather was rainy, they say in Bilbao it always rains and it seems to be true. In the airport there were signs in spanish which I could understand, but then also in a language with difficult words with letters x and z almost in the every word Err Errez.. it was a basque language. We have landed in the basque country. Our group, 20 people of Sociedad Finlandia _ España gathered together and started a bus drive to our hotel Cantabrica. Everybody were tired after a long fly and was happy to get to the bed.
Sunday 1 October
In the morning in rained. We had a typical spanish breakfest in the morning, coffe and toast. Today we will make a trip to Santander and Santilla del Mar. The bus leaved in the morning at 9. We drove to Santilla del Mar where we had a lunch. The lanscape was beautiful, green hills and nice looking houses, it looked similar than in Austria and very different than the landscape in th south Spain. The whole day we travelled and came back to the hotel at 19 o´clock.
Monday 2 October
Today we had a landscape tour in the beautiful landscape. Places like Mungia - Lekeitio - Cabo - Matxixako - Mundako - Gernika. In Gernika were the old drawings in the stone, which are open only for archeologistcs.
Tuesday 3 October
The day in Bilbao. Visited in the Guggenheim museum. The building was great, very interesting looking. The modern art paintings inside were maybe to modern to me. Rest of the day walking in the city.
Wednesday 4 October
Started the trip to Madrid. In Elciego visted the wine farm Bodegas Marques de Riscal, 300 000 bottles of wine in the cellar. The king of Spain also gets his wine from this farm. The trip continues to Calahorra, where we had a lunch in the restaurant most well known in the area of Rioja. We saw a exhibition La Rioja Tierra Abierta. In the evening we arrived in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, a monastery of nuns. We stayed overnight there.
Thursday 5 October
We In Burgos, the magnificant cathedral. Segovia the 2000 years old water system aductaon. In the evening we came to La Granja de San Ildefonso.
Friday 6 October
We visited in Real Sitio a summer cottage of the king of Spain. We visited in El Escorial, wher we could see the old art.
