Hotel Pampinot: Former palace with warm basque character

May 2011 update: Unfortunately this hotel is closed - not sure if temporary or permanent. I heard that the owners did much traveling and the employees were not handling things as they should - it was lovely when I was there. I would check to see if it's open.

Our trip for 2011 we stayed in Jaizkibel, closer to Fisherman's village in the residential section. Have not had time to add tip - but it was a good place to stay.

Hotel Pampinot is a joy! Property is very clean, staff is accomodating, rooms are well appointed, beds comfortable. The location could not be more convenient in the old town near all places of interest - from walking in the old town, to going down to the fishermen's area for a nice stroll along the water or a nice meal.

There is a computer in the upstairs salon with free internet. The hotel does not have a restaurant but they do offer breakfast (at extra cost) - and there is a restaurant a few steps away. This is not an ordinary hotel - this is the type of place you talk about and plan to return to when the trip is over.

I recommend this hotel without hesitation!

Classic and whimsical! My room had a beautiful painted ceiling to resemble the sky - it was a real work of art, with the shades of the sky blending in with the color of the walls - the stone wall had the darker portion of the ceiling, and the painted side had the ceiling colors blending with the wall tones.

The shower was *awesome* - the type that has several jets (at your choice) spraying during your shower for a great experience.

While I was using the computer outside the room one of the staff asked if they could come in the room - to deliver the nightly bottle of water - this was a large bottle of water inside an ice bucket, along with chocolates. This is standard every night.
