Plaza de Bilbao
by mikey_e
The Plaza de Bilbao is another one of those well-planned additions to the Ensanche Cortazar. It is a wide, circular plaza with a massive fountain in the centre. It is also one of the sights you’re likely to see when you first arrive if you come by train, as it is right across the Puente Maria Cristina from the Estación del Norte. I don’t know that there is much significance to this particular square, but it is ringed by excellent cafés, so you should really plan to stop in and enjoy the Belle Époque spirit of the Ensanche at one of the bars along the square. Be careful of sitting to close to the fountain – especially on a windy day!
The "Comb of the Wind"

This statue, designed by the sculpture Chillida, sits on the Western side of the Bahia de La Concha. I'm not much of a modern art person myself, but I'm told it's an important sculpture and a symbol of San Sebastian.
Bridges (2)

Another beautiful bridge is María Cristina, which has prettified towers at each end (the bridge, not María Cristina!!!)
Otro hermoso puente es el puente María Cristina, que tiene unas torres de piedra a cada extremo (del puente, no de María Cristina!!!)

san sebastian was quite possibly the most charming city of europe. the catalonians are beautiful and friendly just like their city. the architecture is full of character and history and strolling through the narrow streets is undoubtedly pleasing to the eye.
there are two main beaches, one for surf and the other for swimmers and sun bathers. both are equally as beautiful and are kissed by the encroaching forests that line there edges. if you decide to hike through them you will feel like you are indiana jones discovering unchartered land. at the top there is a muesem and battlements that were once used to look out for and keep out the unwanted.
san sebs nightlife is great, we pub crawled all night long meeting interesting and good looking folk. whats great about san seb is its dogs too. they are soo cute and now how to party as well. we met one named cuff cuff that wore a bandana and drank beer! obviously coaxed to by his owner.
only one qualm, after we were wasted we wanted to have a drunk meal, not gonna happen here everything, i mean everything closes in this tiny city, we wandered for hours until we gave up and went backto our hostel, to then overhear our crazy neighbors going at it. wow, crazies.
everything about san seb is pleasant. you can find yourself staying there for weeks and not even realizing. it is a great place to refresh and relax in style.
