RE: train or bus to pamplona

by Roadquill

There are a number of buses each day going between San Sebastian and Pamplona. Some only make a couple of stops, others stop at about 10 places along the way. Obviously one takes longer. There should be accomodation left as many of the hotels do not start reservations until after February 15. But prepare to pay a lot, 200 euro for a room.

Travel Tips for San Sebastián

SOMETHING DIFFERENT

by lutxu

IF YOU WANT TO SEE SOMETHING DIFFERENT, OUR SPECIAL DAY IS JANUARY 20TH. A BIT COLD, BUT IT IS SPECTACULAR SEEING THE 'TAMBORRADA'. CHILDREN AND ADULTS PLAYING THEIR DRUMS THROUGH THE WHOLE DAY IN HONOUR OF THE CITY'S PATRON SAINT SEBASTIAN.
BUT WITH BETTER WEATHER YOU CAN ALSO ENJOY WITH:
- JAZZ FESTIVAL (JUL)
- INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (SEPT.)
- SEMANA GRANDE (1 WEEK FESTIVITY) (AUGUST)
- INTERNATIONAL FIREWORKS COMPETITION IN 'SEMANA GRANDE'

Mediocre Restaurant in the old town

by Roadquill about El Casario Jatetxea

I think this place only exists because of the tourist trade. For some reason my wife wanted to have paella and this place had some on the menu. It was quite a disappointment. The paella was watery with very little saffron flavor and next to nothing in seafood. The gamba dish was 14 or so shrimp, but they were small and with shells, so they were difficult to eat.

Santa Clara Island

by Maillekeukeul

Taken in the middle of Mount Igeldo and Mount Urgull, there is some kind of a dot, coming out of the water, that prevents you from enjoying a broad view over the ocean. This dot is Santa Clara Island. I haven't visited it, still, it adds a lot of charm to the whole landscape that San Sebastian offers...

Donosti

by Sonia69

"Donosti, the pearl of the Basque Country"

Donosti, San Sebastian in Basque, is perhaps one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. Its location, close to the sea and very near to the mountains, make of this city, one of the most attractive cities in Spain, apart from this, Donosti has a lot of things to do, specially in September, when the International Film Festival takes place.

relaxing by the sea

by lostaussie

san sebastian is a delightful little city by the sea where the sea breezes make the heat of the spanish summer bearable. it is full of aussies and kiwis in early july as it is part of the pilgramage fom pamplona to try to regenerate a bit.
it is actually quite full of tourists in summer in general- having once been the haven for royalty.

the old town is very pleasant, with its attractive buildings and hundreds of tapas bars. for such a touristy place, the prices were quite reasonable.

those seeking nightlife are not left in the dark either with quite a large variety of pubs/clubs to choose from.
