San Sebastián ~ Anoeta Stadium ~ Madrid

by moonlight_medusa

Hi everyone

How far is San Sebastián's city centre to Anoeta Stadium and what's the best way to get there?

Also, are there are trains or buses running during the night (after 11, possibly midnight) from San Sebastián to Madrid?

San Sebastian is not a large city and the centre is very compact. Distance to the stadium is walkable - around 20 minutes, give or take 10 minutes depending on your starting point. provide the train service between San Sebastian and Madrid. Journey time is about 5.5 hours but I have not found a departure after 10pm on current winter Timetable

Alsa buses do the journey in about 6.5 hours but again - I found no late evening departures.

If you need the location of the stadium, open up Google Maps and insert this address into the search:

Paseo Anoeta / Anoeta Pasalekua, 1, 20014 San Sebastián, Spain (Estadio Anoeta)

The stadium is about 10 minutes walk from the bus terminal at : Calle de los Arquitectos Kortázar and about 30 minutes from the main train station at Paseo de Francia, 22, San Sebastián, España

There are buses to/from Bilbao from Donostia-San Sebastian but last one leaving San Seb is at 22.00 I think:

Bilbao to Madrid is possible (maybe - see again ) at 01.30 in morning arriving into Madrid centre at about 06.15 but clearly Bilbao is about 1 hour away from San Seb by road ( 100kms) and if you can't take a bus to Bilbao to reach the Madrid bus then you are faced with problem.

Travel Tips for San Sebastián

La Perla thalassotherapy

by zizu

I think you should visit this bath. It is on the middle of the Kontxa Bay, and the views from it are spectaculars. Also, you will enjoy a lot with its therapies.
Then, you will complet a great experience having a meal at its restaurant.
The prices are unexpensives, so enjoy!

Castillo de la Mota

by mikey_e

Castillo de la Santa Cruz de la Mota is the main military installation on Urgull and thus it makes sense that it is at the highest point on the mountain. It also has the best and easiest access of all the military installations, so you should at least try to make it up to this Castle installed in the 12th century by the King of Navarre. There are three chapels (just to be on the safe side) some of which are open to the public. Actually, if I remember correctly, only the largest one is open to the public as it provides access to the Sagrado Corazón – the large statue of Jesus. The Castillo still has its canons, which are always a treat for kids, and it houses the city’s museum. Usually, these types of museums are not exactly interesting, and I know that I often rail against them and ethnographic museums in general in other tips. The museum of the city of San Sebastian, however, is fairly interesting, as it is big on displays and short on minute historical detail. There are various discussions of the different names the city has had and its important place in the various sea battles and invasions. The biggest draw to the Castillo de la Mota, however, is undoubtedly the view on both the bay and the sea. Go up to the statue of Christ to get the best views and make sure that your camera battery is fully charged – the water looks this blue only from this height!

River Urumea runs through Donostia, and debouches at Cantabrian Sea. Some beautiful bridges cross this river; near the river mouth there are some magnificent buildings of early 20th century. The famous Kursaal Congress Palace is situated on the right riverside.

Bars per sq. m greatest concentration in Spain

"La Concha"

San Sebastian (Basque: Donostia) forming a half-moon around the BEAUTIFUL Bahi'a de La Concha, with a charming & sophisticated seaside resort surrounded by the green hills of Guipu'zcoa province.

San Sebastian's Parte Vieja(Old City) is probably the greatest concentration of bars per square metre in Spain, with fantastic pintxos(tapas), and world-famous cuisine.
