Madrid Daytrip
What would be better as a daytrip, destination wise? Segovia or Salmanca. Also, some other suggestions would be appreciated. I like castles alot and medieval--rennaissance architecture.

I did my daytrip from Madrid to Segovia, and absolutely loved it. This walled city was perfectly compact, walkable and a joy. Meandered from bar to bar, nibbling on one tapas and drinking one glass of wine at each one, met some great people (who were uniformly welcoming to an ignorant American without the slightest ability to speak Spanish). Ate roast baby pig at El Duque, a restaurant that's been doing the same thing since the 1600's. Can't recommend Segovia more highly.

Segovia is excellent for a daytrip . There is a brand new highway from Madrid and the trip by coach will take less than one hour. There are scattered renaissance palaces within the town but the most important monuments are Roman, Romanesque and Gothic. It's a lively town with an important cultural life. You will love it. Promised.

Both Segovia and Salamanca make perfect day trips from Madrid, but since you seem to love castles and Salamanca is quite a longer way from the capital, I would then suggest Segovia, which is also more scenic and picturesque than Salamanca.
Whatever you decide, have a great time.

Absolutely visit Segovia. It's beautiful and you'll really enjoy its charm. Toledo is amazing...that's a great trip, too. I didn't get a chance to see Salamanca, but as someone else mentioned, go ahead and visit the pages. I'm sure someone has something great up about it.

Since your interest is castles, I think Segovia would be a better choice.
Salamanca is a university town, which is reputed to have the oldest university in Europe.
My favorite Spanish city though is Granada. If you have not yet visited it, do make a trip to Andalucia and see the Alhambra.
