The Fanabe Costa Sur Hotel -

Not Exactly the 4 Star Experience We had Hoped For.
On the plus side the hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, generally, we found the place to be more of a 3 star standard than a 4 star. The Dining Room was crowded and disorganised and cried out for a Head Waiter to remove the chaos. The lifts were unreliable, which was of concern as our room was on the fourth floor. One of the most annoying features, however, was the extra costs levied for the use of sun lounger cushions, the use of the gymnasium, sauna and steam room and the 1.2 Euro per day charge (per person for the use of towels around the swimming pool area. Additionally, the hotel is described as having air conditioning-well yes it did have but it was inneffective and noisy. Finally, our room was situated at the front of the hotel and just above the entertainment area, resulting in a very noisy atmosphere until very late at night. In short, this is not a holiday experience that we would wish to repeat. The Fanabe Costa Sur requires a major makeover to be considered a truly 4 star Hotel

Food good although it was a bit of a scrum at busy periods. Go early or late and grab your table first. You can decide which of Lunch or dinner to take.
Rooms very clean and tidy. Staff varied from very helpful to could not be bothered although overall we thought that in the peak month of August this was well worth the cost of £450 per person.
Beaches 10 mins walk away busy but perfectly acceptable for the kids.
Excellent pool and reasonable bar/resturant adjacent. Area of the pool nearest reception in shade until mid morning.
Eating out is ok as long as you avoid Playas De La Americas.
We had a great meal at La Faroula del Mar over looking the beach (turn right out of hotel and walk down to the sea front) and a good meal at Little Italy. Heard good reports about La Cava in Los Christianos.
We went on the usual whale excusions (smaller boats allowed much closer than the larger vessels) and for a "Teide Safari" with Tamaran which was awful for far too many reasons to mention.

Parque del Sol

Extremely spacious accomodation with kitchen facilities should you wish to self-cater. There is also an excellent restaurant with a very good menu and a poolside snack bar which serves a varied lunch menu. The hotel is situated near to restaurants and bars but still within a quiet location. It is only about a 10 minute walk from the lovely beach at Fanabe.

Fun in Fanabe

by TripAdvisor Member paul43

We have just returned from another great stay at the Fanabe. Having previously stayed here last October we were so impressed with the hotel & the friendly staff we thought we would give it another go. Previous visits to the Iberostar Torviscas down the road attracted us to this area of Costa Adeje yet the costs during half term breaks were getting prohibitive, this is when we turned to Fanabe Costa Sur..working out at half the cost & yet pretty well on a par in most instances with its more expensive neighbour. The food is pretty decent although it is all in the timing at the buffet..the 9.30am slot is pretty crazy but the evening tends to be much calmer, the fact that there is a 3 hour slot helps.

The staff contrary to what some previous posts suggest were very friendly & bedrooms were kept to a very good standard daily. The animation team are very good possibly a little too discreet for some guests & if you are looking to stay fit during the week just put your hand up for the 5 a side football daily which certainly sheds the pounds quickly!!

We have always been blessed with great weather here ( I bet i'll regret that comment) during the October half term break & would thoroughly recommend this hotel...the only slight negatives if you are undecided is that the local beach is a 10 minute stroll down the hill, great going not so good coming back!! (Fanabe Beach so much nicer than Playa del Duque) the food is a little repetitive the pool is a little on the chilly side (according to my wife!) parking at the hotel very limited usually have to leave it on the road, all in all a great one we'll be back next where is that brochure!

PS Excursion to do if you have done all the regular ones ie Loro Park etc is Raft biking down Mount Teide to Los Christianos great fun & even my 8 year old managed it!!

Although this is not a restaurant - it's an Italian coffee bar - Mille Miglia in Fanabe district of Las Americas should not be missed as they make the best coffee in Tenerife. Run by a young Italian named Marco, I would definitely recommend his espresso and capuccino!

Since writing the above review, unfortunately the young owner Marco, was sadly killed in a road accident. However, the bar is still up and running under the new name of Bar Blu Sea and run by yet another Italian named Annibale. It still serves the best coffee.

very clean and lovely family hotel

by TripAdvisor Member kez11

We have just spent a lovely week at the Fanabe Costa Sur, this included my husband, myself and our 2 daughters aged 5 and 1. The rooms were spacious and very clean and the cot was spotless, which is sometimes a worry. The highchairs in the dining area were also very clean and plentiful. I would recommend that you have an early evening meal as it does get very busy after 7.30. The food at all meals were lovely, plently to choose from and of good quality for a self serve buffett style. The mini kids club was useful, just 2 hours in the morning and same in the afternoon, it was located in a shaded area so it kept the kids out of the sun. When we were there my daughter was the only British girl at the club but this really wasnt a problem as the staff spoke perfect English and the Spanish and Italian kids were friendly. The pool is a nice size but dont leave it too late to get a sunbed. The beach was about a 5 minute walk and it wasnt the best beach but clean and safe. We got the hotel for £450 for all of us, which was a good price for the standard of accommodation, and I would go back to this hotel again either as a family or a couple

A place in the sun

by TripAdvisor Member Nigel48d

My wife and I have just returned from a very relaxing holiday at The Fanabe. The location was perfect, reception staff very helpful,
as were all the staff. The room was large with two double beds, a sofa bed and a two seater sofa. It also had a balcony which overlooked the front of the Hotel. This was our only complaint as there was some noise with buses arriving through the night. We also overlooked a small patio area were there was live music ( easy listening ) until midnight .
We had read unfavourable reviews about the standard of food but we found it most adequate if a little on the cool side ( Spanish Style ). We were staying half board and on the occasions we were not dining at night were allowed to take lunch instead.
If you want to top up your tan in a peaceful area go up to the roof - perfect.
Yes we would go back to The Fanabe Costa Sur - but would ask for a room overlooking the pool.

Brilliant week

by TripAdvisor Member Jane&Pete

My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Fanabe with our two granddaughters and have nothing but praise for the way we were treated. The room allocated was enormous with a huge double bed and two singles and kept spotless by cheerful staff.
The cleanliness overall of the hotel was unsurpassed and the level of entertainment for the girls was superb. The quality and amount of food available was better than the last hotel on Tenerife we stayed at and that was a 5 star. The only gripe from us was the usual one of idiots claiming sunbeds at 7-30 am onwards and not appearing till mid morning but this is normal now-adays and is neither the hotels (or the Germans!!) fault,as the majority of clowns were British.Im so proud of them!

good value

by TripAdvisor Member MARTYNWILLIAMS

We booked the hotel for 2 adults and 2 children for £450 half board which is good value with travel republic. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the location is excellent with plenty of bars resturants supermarkets. The breakfast was self service including getting your own cuttlery .The evening meal was good but lots of people were going into the resturant with shorts and vests on even though it said on the notice board that this was not accepted.Overall excellent value and would recommend the hotel.

Great value hotel.

Excellent family hotel. The room was big and did not feel cluttered even though there were 4 beds in it. Dinning room was very light and airy with the choice of eating out on the terrace outside of the dinning room. Plenty of choice at meal times. 3 pool areas all kept very clean, tidy and safe for children. There was plenty of entertainment day and night for adults and children which was always well supervised. Rooms were kept very clean and all linen was changed regularly. Hotel is only 5 minutes from the beach and bars. Staff spoke English very well and were friendly and helpful. Would recomend this hotel to anyone as it caters for everyone. I would return to this hotel in the future.

TENERIFE where to stay?

by pawelx

So that
- it is still hot (say, 25 Celsius:) in early October,
- we can rent a car or a bike easily
- there are some patio restaurants, bars etc
- But NOT TOO touristy!! (I guess all the towns are touristy in one way or another but please name one which is LESS touristy than the others;)

Head for the Fanabe area of Playa de las Americas. Hotels seem to be a little more upmarket than the ones in the Veronicas area of the main strip.
Plenty of restaurants bars etc, and a bit quiter at night.
Short walk to the beach, market up that end of town as well.
