More about H10 Costa Adeje Palace
Nice Hotel, Poor food!
As a family of four ( 1 baby ) the rooms and facilities were very good. The pools were very nice, a little surprised to see every sunlounger reserved before breakfast ( not just the Germans!). The main gripe was the food. Although it looked impressive, it was generally luke warm leading to us all at one point being floored by tummy bugs. No food thermometers in sight and the sight of a chef in full whites weeling bins around outside a little worrying.
If they can sort the dining out this would be a great family hotel.
Reasonable Hotel, a little too far away from any action
I have just stayed for three days at the H10 and I have to say that it is a reasonable hotel but it is too far away from anything in Fanabe or Playa De Las Americas unless you are really mobile and like walking alot.
Firstly, there seem to be a lot of families with young kids staying at this hotel, so if you are after somewhere quiet, choose the AQA Jacaranda in Fanabe.
The pool area is well laid out but there is no shallow end to it. I'm about 5"6ins in height and I could only just stand on tiptoe at the end of the main pool, therefore most of the kids go and use the small but adequate inside pool and alot of them "bomb" into it which really makes it a no go zone for those wanting a quiet swim.
I felt that the bar staff and poolside staff could've made more of an effort to actually serve you considering that the bar prices are a bit high. The general feeling I got from these staff was that they were there to do a job and that is it (i have been a bit spoilt on a holiday in Mexico where the staff were fantastically friendly and helpful though)..
The dinner times were a bit better in the restaurant and there was always a reasonable variety however, at both breakfast and dinner sittings you could always spot the leftovers that had been rehashed. Also at dinner times, they served up freshly cooked meat which you will need to check to make sure it is cooked all of the way through. My friends and I had a couple of chicken breasts which were very pink in the middle and could've caused some serious stomach upsets had we not been more vigilant.
The evening entertainment wasn't particularly entertaining unless you had small children with you (it was geared to keeping them happy)and the "anamicion" team weren't particularly animated.
The hotel has it's own on site a la carte restaurant called La Tosca. The food served up here is not all that it is cracked up to be and whether you gett good foood or not appears to be very hit and miss. They would probably be better if they served their food on warmed plates to ensure it acutally stays warm.
The location of the hotel is not good. It is at the extreme end of Adeje and a good long slog along the costal path (which is very nice) to Fanabe, Playa De Las Americas and Los Christianos. Although there is a taxi rank outside the hotel and if you want good shopping then take the opportunity to visit Parque Santiagos III (about 9 euros in a taxi), however shop in the underground mall where the prices are 10 times better for goods than in the new above surface mall.
If you egt the chance and want some nice little restaurants with a sea view then walk away from Adeje and Fanabe along the costal path to La Coleta where there is a beautiful water inlet area with lots of little restaurants and Tapas bars. It is good for those of you who have a romantic soul and want to treat the one you love! There are no groups of lager louts of beered up people here so couples can have a quiet enjoyable evening.
On the whole, I think that the AQA Jacaranda is better (although the pool there is functional rather than fun) and closer to shops and entertainment although if and when I return to Tenerife I will certainly want to try the Bahia hotel and the front at Adeje as it looked superb!
Enjoy your trip to Tenerife, it is a beautiful island....
Great Relaxing Stay
Stayed at the Palace for 7 nights from 30 Oct to 6 Nov. Great room (681) with nice balcony overlooking the Sheraton but with peaceful pretty view to the sea - you can hear the waves crashing in on the rocks about 250 metres away. There are 3 pools outside, 2 very big and 1.95 metres deep - ideal for those like me that enjoy swimming lengths in fairly empty pools. Sun loungers plentiful, though to get the best you need to reserve before 8.30. Our first night clashed with the end of the half term (in Spain also?), so they actually were all taken, but we then sat outside the compound on this sandy area where there are 6 sun loungers overlooking the sea directly - the best seats in the house. As you exit, turn right and walk along the prom towards La coleta - 300 metres check out the beach bar for your sunset drinks combined with mellow music.
The hotel is away from the main English bar areas and you won't find any footy on the TV within 25 / 30 mins walk - I thought that was a good point just for a change. Exit left and walk 20 mins towards Duque and it becomes a cosmopolitan morocan area - very nice for relaxing evening drinks. The hotel has a free bus to americas, and then you can walk back as slowly as you like - we got the noon bus, then strolled back with lots of swims in the sea for sunset at 6.30. Between Americas and Cristianos is great surfing and body boarding country - massive waves that make Cornwall look like a baby start up centre! Surf board hire is 19E per day or 12E for half a day at the surf shops behind burger king.
We had half board, and found the staff as throughout the hotel kind and helpful. Plenty of food on offer, but also if you want to stay on traditional english fare, you may find a more limited choice but still plenty of it. The chef cooks food fresh for you at the top of the restauarent with plenty of steak, chicken, pork or lamb, as well as options to help yourself - at brekkie they also make great banana smoothies! Went nicely witht he cooked breakie. Tables readily free, but best seats located outside in the open air - either queue up at the start to get in their first, or aim for when these finsih after about 50 mins to 1 hour.
Gym functional, but needs CV equipment repairing and updating. Jacuzzi indoors low warm temp, outside just sun heated so cool!
Nice sandy beach about 10 mins walk on exiting left along the prom just beyond the Riu. Some big waves great for lilos, not for surfing, but possibly body boarding beginners.
Bus from the airport is 2 euros pp - cath the 487 to the end of its line in Duque, then walk the 15 / 20 mins to the hotel along the prom. Taxi will cost you about 21 euros.
Not for the lads and rowdy, but is for those wanting more sophistation. Great weather, great area, will go again.
i am writing this review from the hotel. IT IS AWFUL. it is certainly not four stars. my room, although spacious was boring, the bathroom very tired and dirty. there were hairs all over the toilet and the toilet actualy had a toilet brush jammed into it upon my arrival.
the food is apalling, and is in the form of a horrid buffet. the food cooked infront of you at the 'show cooking area' is horrid and cooked by incompetant 16 year old chefs who don't speak a word of english.
PLEASE DON'T COME TO THIS HOTEL, IT IS HORRID
A thoroughly enjoyable stay - New Year's Party excelent
Having read one or two other reviews we approached our stay with some degree of intrepidation. No need to have worried! The hotel provided excellent value for money - if you wanted to pay more by all means go to the Sheraton next door but we all doubt whether you would have had any a better time than we did.
The staff were friendly and ever helpful despite the hotel being very full for a hectic New Year's Eve party. The food was excellent with a tremendous range to suit every taste. If you could not find something to suit at any meal then you must have an extremely selective diet!
Whilst it is away from the action there was always something to do. More activity was only a few minutes down the road.
Only criticism - the paintwork in the bedrooms and some of the soft furnishings are reaching the point in time when redecoration and/or refurbishment will be needed. This is perhaps understandible when you consider what a busy hotel this is.
We will certainly be going again for next New Year.
Average 4 Star Hotel
Do be careful if you get a taxi from the airport as there is another hotel with a similar name Gran Hotel Costa Adeje or something like that and our taxi driver dropped us off at the wrong hotel.
We stayed for 7nts. The rooms were OK, for a newish hotel the decor was quite dark but always clean.
We paid for sea view rooms but I would have put them as partial/side sea view. That's not a real complaint just observation as I feel we could have had better rooms.
On a more positive note, the food at the hotel was superb. The grill every night had 3 choices of fish and 2 meat/chicken option. Fresh pasta cooked to order. A great selection. We had full board and on a couple of days went to the restaurant to find it closed, on checking with reception we were told to take lunch at the poolside snack/restaurant. This didn't offer as much choice but was adequate for lunch. We did find the staff at this particular restaurant rude and even witnessed them having a right go at a family for sitting at the wrong table.
The location was good. Far enough away from loud Las Americas but near enough if you want to get the free bus or taxi.
Also, a lovely stroll along the seafront (turn right from the front of the hotel) takes you to El Duque which has some lovely morrocan style bars where we watched the sunset on a number of occassions.
Don't pick the hotel on the strength at there is a gym as we went in to find most of the equipment either didn't work (bikes with no seat/stepper didn't work/treadmill dangerous).
The indoor pool was good though, with glass walls and ceiling you didn't actually feel as if you were inside.
All in all I would say it was an average 4 star hotel in a quiet location and if that is what you are looking for would recommend it.
Great relaxing break
Just returned from a weeks trip. Granted that this is not a 5 star, however compared to cold and boring Sheraton next door my friend and I thought it was great. We thought that for what we paid it was very good value. THe buffet breakfast was amazing, a great choice of food. Staff very friendly with children. Bar staff and reception staff also very friendly. Could do with more bar service round the pool as lots of older people frequent this hotel. Would definately go back again. Avoid half term if you want to avoid children.
Disappointed in this hotel
Hotel has some good points (food, sunloungers, location) but these were wholly outweighed for us by the bad ones. Our main complaint is that there is loud pop music (eg Whitney Houston, Jennifer Rush, Celine Dion) played across the whole sunlounger area from loudspeakers pointing outward from the centrally positioned pool bar. If you are the sort of person who has the radio on non-stop at home then this might be ok, but if you would like a peaceful and tranquil holiday then go elsewhere. The management is not so good - we booked and asked for (via a fax in spanish) a twin room on the top floor and found ourselves in a double on the bottom floor. Did not like the long queues to get our cards checked for the restaurant and be issued with a drinks invoice (in triplicate). Also found the very hard mattresses difficult. Overall not a 4* experience. A pity, as its location is ideal for appealing to those who want a relaxing, quiet holiday.
Stayed here for 9 nights with my husband & my 2 infants. was a great hotel could do with a new lick of paint though. Other than that staff very helpfull food was very good lots of different dishes to try ver fresh. champagne for breakfast caviar for dinner!!
Only problem we had was the other holiday makers that werent english are very very very rude & look at you as though your not supposed to be there!! Well who cares about them. Not bad location just a little bit of a walk to shops which are very very nice.
Great hotel would go back again!
A quality Hotel
Stayed here from March 3rd. Previously stayed in March 2002. Sure there are one or two areas that could do with a lick of paint - balcony railings in particular.Overall however thought hotel was just as good second time around. Comments in other reviews re '4 star' unfair. I've had the misfortune to stay in some '4 star' hotels in the UK and pay substantially more. Food quality and choice was excellent.
