More about Ocean Resort Hotel
1st class hotel!
Ocean Palace is an amazing hotel. On arrival we were so well looked after by Sarah and later Gaz, our reps. Was lovely to find complimentary essentials i.e bread, butter, milk, teabags, coffee, orange juice and even a bottle of wine in the room. Weather was gorgeous the whole 2 weeks (18 june-2 july) and there was plenty 2 do. We saw the amazing Loro Parque, Aqua Park (not really worth the money, but still made the most of it) and went out on the Atlantic to see the whales and dolphins. Truely fascinating!! i do recommend that you price around because the reps at the hotel will try 2 promote freebird, but its most expensive. plus if you have kids, 2 hours is enough really. Be careful beside the pool, it is incredibly slippy- im 19 and fell twice just walkin with flip flops on. And the building work- we didnt realise it was there til the last day!! thats how much it bothered us!!! Well recommended and we'd love to go again, oh and kids clubs were great! crash out was best where kids could go down and watch a video from 9-11 after mini-disco...gave us a break from my 6 yr old sister for a while!
Ocean Palace - just 500 yards too far out
Just have to add a few lines about the Ocean Palace. We stayed there from 18th June to 2nd July.
Plus points:- Excellent facilities, reps on site continuously, welcome pack in room on arrival, food in hotel superb, the bar-b-q is a must, Davide the poolside barman is hilarious, ask him for a Calemoucho drink, you'll stick with it for the rest of the holiday. Don't miss the quiz or the FREE Cocktail sessions in the the afternoons round the pool with Roy or Stacey, the entertainment staff.
Negative points:- the staff in the mornings only wash the tiles and this leaves a form of unseen film on them which later in the day may prove dangerous. During our stay 2 adults and 3 kids had spills which required medical attention. Also be prepared to pay anything from 5 to 10 euros for a taxi into the town. We took 2 taxis in each evening and every time without fail the fare was different.
Finally, the small hill if you are walking from the San Miguel supermarket or El Duque Supermamarket up past the German Rui Hotel is a killer and this is why I added the 500 yards in my title.
Overall verdict:- a very good 4 star hotel
luxury on the top floor
Just back from 2 weeks at the Ocean Palace. our apartment was lovely on the top floor with a whirlpoolbath and extended living area, we must have been a touch lucky but I'm not complaining. The first choice reps were helpful and arranged a couple of trips which my boys enjoyed to the bowls and also out on the freebird. we rented a car and found this the best way to explore, visited Mt Teide, trip on the cable car is a must, went to Loro parque which is also fascinating. You do get ripped off in the resort for food and drinks, a meal in nearby Guia de Isora was half the price of the resort and much nicer in a local hostelry up a side street. On the negative side,I was among many who did not appreciate the entertainments manager Roy. He was arrogant and at times ignorant, calling us a bunch of 'miserable buggers' for not singing happy birthday to a child and making you feel that if you did not play Bingo twice a day that somehow you were not enjoyong your holiday, fairly bizarre really, try the Coyote bar for half the price of the Palace drinks, turn right outside palace and right again at the top of the road.Overall, I would go back to Ocean Palace tomorrow!
Just returned from 2 weeks here (6-20 Aug 2004) and all in all a good family holiday. Building works are behind the hotel and currently do not affect the hotel guests at all- not sure what will happen at next stage of construction though. However, along with previous reviewers we reiterate the warning about the poolside tiles-we have a 10 year old son with a broken toe now! Also our room was broken into and our binoculars were stolen. Reps not very interested-no follow up or real interest in our situation-just went through the motions.
On the good side our room was very quiet, our a/c worked all night so very cool and easy to sleep. Bit of a walk to the restaurants, but plenty to choose from and something to suit everyone even our 2 children! Good value on site restaurant.
Our holiday wasn't spoilt but was certainly negatively affected by the awful 'entertainment'duo-Roy the manager(?)as he kept reminding us and Stacey who wasn't quite so bad. What a negative, un-entertaining pair they were. I think they have forgotten that children make a noise when they are enjoying themselves and that people want to do what they want to do on their holiday. Heaven forbid someone should want to watch footie on the big scren that is boasted about!Great to have on-site entertainment but the loud music and even worse Roy's voice on the microphone totally dominate the poolside from 2.30pm onwards.Talk about putting people down publically-easy when you have a microphone-he behaved like a two yoear old in a tantrum if anyone answered back or worse still but absolutely hilariously tipped him off his lilo at the end of a kiddies game-that got the biggest cheer of the week! I cannot believe that a couple of Roy's 'victims' didn't walk out or whack him! We happily signed a letter of complaint written by another guest after a couple of particularly unnecessary and unpleasant examples of Roy's commentary. I think he has had a charisma by-pass and unfortunately it is rubbing off on Stacey.I would have semi- expected his hacked-off. totally bored and possibly negative outlook in late season not mid august- perhaps he is in the wrong job????!!!! So ok we enjoy entertainment but it needs to be fun, funny and varied-not quite what is on offer here!
Ridiculous situation with the sun beds.We cannot understand why for the sake of probably only a couple of hundred pounds the Manager doesn't just go out and buy 50 more beds and 20 more parasols-loads of room around the pool. If you did not reserve beds by 7.30a.m-no chance. they suddenly decided that reserved beds would not be permitted before 9am-what a joke!! Absolutely no change in habits, no removal of towels and we got into a heated debate with another family who took our parasol. When I mentioned this in passing to Roy 'The Entertaiments Manager'in case you have forgotten-guess what his managerial comment was....'Not my problem I'm the Entertainment Manager!!!!!' Funny, in England, any Hotel Management member would expect to take on board this kind of comment and rectify it.Not our Roy! We would think about returning here but only if the reps and the entertainment team change.
PS Amanda the 'sports'lady made up for Roy-and she tried her best even with old and tatty equipment-why can't these hotels spend some money........how much do we all pay for our holidays?

Just returned from ocean palace and thought i'd share my opinions on the place. Firstly with regard to roy and stacey the entertainments team, I've read some negative comments from people and thought i'd give the opposing camps view. Most people find that between the 2 of them they actually make the holiday outstanding, my stay in this complex was enhanced 100% by their presence. If you want to go on holiday and do nothing then that is your choice as starnge as i find it, but if you want to be entertained and be part of the entertainment all you have to do is strike up a rapport which is what they want and you will have a great time. the main acts that were on every night were different and doing a quiz or archery/shooting/bingo/warter polo/volleyball during the day is a good way of getting involved and how can a list of activities like that be repetetive. In regard to people who don't like his put downs, well if you are going to heckle him then please remember that he is in the entertainments buisness and he will respond with a put down. I found everyting about the hotel excellent and would definetly go back but only if Roy and stacey were still there. Please go there and join in the 2 of them will give you a holiday to remember. Last I heard roy was building a speed boat (in house joke)
We stayed at Ocean Palace from 20 August to 3 September and had a brilliant time. We have 2 children, Lewis & Rebecca, who also had a great time. As a family we took part in everything the hotel entertainment had to offer and thoroughly enjoyed the lot.
Roy and Stacey's humour is just our cup of tea and their comments during bingo will be remembered the rest of the year.
Amanda was great and her shooting, archery and pool activities were used regularly.
The only down side is how long before we can go back!
Had 2 fantastic weeks at the Ocean Palace in September 2004 along with my wife and daughter, brother in-law and his wife and Son. The hotel is well situated away from the hectic night life of Las Americas but still accessible if you want to go out and about at night. The rooms where well equipped, all overlooking the pool. We where half-board, the food at night was one of the better I have experienced on holiday with a different theme each night. Good pool, suitable for both young children and adults. Kids reps where great, my daughter, Julia, couldn't keep away. Mini-discos being one of her highlights after a day in the pool. Roy was fantastic, good entertainer with superb banter. Really enjoyed his shows. All round a great hotel offering a good class of accomodation with good food and good entertainment. Well recommended, if we where going back, we'd go here.
Just returned back from the Ocean Palace for the second year in a row.....and had a fabulous holiday and will be back for a 3rd year...Roy if you are reading this take no notice of the previous reviews....I thought the entertainment was superb !!!
can,t wait to get back
My wife, daughter and me went to the Ocean Palace for the 1st time in April 04. We went with the family and there was 12 of us. We had a fantastic time we all joined in with the games inside and out and won lots of bottles of champaign. (which we left for the maid) As it was so enjoyably we went back again in October yet again the entertainment was great. You go on holiday to have fun let your hair down (not that i have much) and have a good laugh. But if you do not want to have a good time a real good laugh go somewhere else (like the north pole) as this is what you will get in this great hotel. The building works, yes we all got the letters before we went but i can tell you this only for the fact you can see them (when you look over the road when you really try and look) you would never know they were there. The hotel is about a 10 min walk to the shops and to the beach. The hotel is so friendly when we went back we where reconised by the staff and were made to feel at home. That is why we have just booked to go back again on the 5th of April 05.So Roy if you see this make sure you do not go anywhere and dont give the bad ones a second look. People know what a good holiday is that is why your hotel is all ways fully booked.
Ocean Palace Oct 04
Have just returned from 2 weeks at the Ocean Palace, and we have been going there now for 4 years. This time the kids and grandkids came with us for the first time, (7 of us altogether) and we have had a great time.
Every time we have been to the Ocean Palace we have been impressed with the attitude and freindliness of all the staff. They are superb, from the cleaners to the manager!!. The food is excellent, with a good variety, and well presented.
The rooms are spacious, well equipped, and the cleaning staff do a super job. The welcome pack on arrival is a nice touch and very handy if you arrive at some strange hour. (The wine is not the best in the world though!!)
Having read the negative comments about Roy, we were a little apprehensive, but if you give him half a chance he is a good guy, works very hard, obviously enjoys what he does, and is very approachable. Over the 2 weeks we got to appreciate and enjoy his work and sense of humour. Please folks give him a chance!
Amanda with the daytime sports activities absolutely brilliant, makes the activities enjoyable and has a good rapport with everyone.
All in all, a very enjoyable holiday, and we will certainly go again, but we do have a couple of minor criticisms.
1. Not enough sunbeds, and some of the ones there are broken. Please Ocean Palace get some more.
2. The daytime sports activities need a bit of investment-only one arrow for archery, bowls lane needing repair and improvement.
3. Has been mentioned by other people, but yes the tiles arround the pool are slippy when wet. Not quite sure what can be done about that, but there should at least be more warning notices.
4. Entertainment - no problems with Roy. As I say, he works hard and he responds to holidaymakers comments. Our only gripe is the main act we feel is on too late, often 23.00 to 23.30. On many occasions people left before the main act started (us too sometimes). I'm sure that if the main act was on at 22.00, many more people would stop and enjoy.
