A 'So So' Holiday

Just returned from a weeks holiday to El Castillo, and like a lot of people before us, I was worried about the accomodation after reading plenty of reviews about the place. A couple of weeks before we went, I emailed the hotel to request one of the rooms which backs onto the beach. These rooms are of a superior quality, compared to the rest of the complex. Our room number was '2031'. The room was large enough for the 3 of us, ideally situated, being literally 1 min from the beach, BUT, it wasn't clean. The maid service is unreliable, out beds were only made twice all week. The standards of cleaning were poor. I had to physically clean the floor twice as the sand and dust gets all over. On a few of the days, the maids turned up at 6pm ! Advice to families with small kids like ours, take some dettox and cleaning stuff. We did have a nice holiday. Caleta is a great place for families with young children. There are plenty of playparks for them to explore etc...
We found a great place for breakfast. Its called the 'Travellers rest' and is situated over the roundabout, up the hill towards chipmunk mountain. Its a bit of a walk to get there, but well worth it for the food and views.
What a rest

The appartments were excellent, cleaned five times in the week and we were about 20 metres from the sandy beach. It was so quiet at night and we were able to sleep without any distractions. The appts. are located near the shopping areas and the walk there was an absolute pleasure. I would not hesitate to recommend these appartments for their prime location, their cleanliness and their pleasing appearance and I certainly would not consider anywhere else when I hopefully return to Fuerteventura.
