Highest Hotel on the Island
We stayed in the 5* Gran Hotel on a half board basis as a treat and stayed on 16th floor in one of the Suites which faced over the ocean. We had satellite tv, mini bar, safe deposit box, air conditioning, telephone, and in the bathroom with its lovely marble tiles it had a proper bath (some Spanish baths are child sized). The selected menu for the evening was in main restaurant on the top (17th) floor.
The spa facilties at the hotel are good with a hydrotherapy circuit with water treated with mineral salts, at a temperature of 36 degrees, sauna, steam room, roman term, hydro massage showers…but they are charged for at 12 Euros per visit extra and members of the public can walk in and use the facilities too. They are open from 12.00 lunchtime.
Unique Quality: The restaurant and cafe/bar are located on the 17th floor, and the cafe bar also has a dance floor. It is glass fronted and looks out over the rooftops of Arrecife in one direction and the Atlantic Ocean in the other...excellent views...really stunning place to sit and eat. And on one saturday night during our stay, a live band came into the cafe bar and it made a lovely evening.
The restaurant can be good, Ive received different treatment on different occasions depending how busy they are. On occasions nothing is too much trouble and on another they forget what you've asked for and can be slow. Generally the food is bland, not 5* cuisine, but I have had the odd good meal there.
