Las Dunas
A couple of years ago I holidayed in Playa Blanca, in southern Lanzarote, and spent a day in Fuerteventura, taking the ferry to Corralejo. Corralejo itself was nothing much; I suppose some parts of the town were pretty, especially the seafront along the beaches with views to the Isla de los Lobos and Lanzarote in the distance. But we decided to take a bus from the main station next to the ferry terminal, and get off somewhere that looked nice. We took the route towards Puerto del Rosario on the east coast, and left the coach at Las Dunas. The bus stop was really in the middle of nowhere- it was like a complete desert, almost nothing around, just a couple of large white buildings a long way away, and then nothing but miles and miles of golden sand dunes on either side of the road. Walking towards the sparkling sea that was just visible over the dunes, we found a fantastic beach, populated by a couple of tourists from nearby hotels but mainly Fuerteventurans themselves. The sea was the clearest I have ever seen, the waters a brilliant turquoise and the sand a pure, crystalline white. I can really recommend that if you take a trip to Fuerteventura from Lanzarote, it is well worth taking the 15 minute bus journey from Corralejo to the dunes just around the corner of the island.
