Hotel Buenaventura.....We Loved It!
by TripAdvisor Member Joanne68
I took myself and my two daughters aged 14 and 11yrs to this hotel for the Feb half term. I read many reviews and was somewhat apprehensive. We arrived late into the night and upon arrival we were pleasantly suprised. As other reviews have commented the hotel does require a facelift in the corridors, the carpets are tatty and yes it does remind you of a multi storey carpark!, however the bedrooms were nice clean and spacey, we had a triple room when I was expecting a put up bed for my daughter. We had a room overlooking the kiddie pool at the back of the hotel which was lovely and quiet, I imagine a room overlooking the main pools could be noisey, especially in the summer when any evening entertainment is outside.
The the hotel is spot on. The hotel staff are constantly cleaning all areas, the pools are spotless, the bars are lovely and the food was excellent. We always had lots of choice, the chefs were cooking in front of you and the food was replenished quickly and was always hot. The hotel was busy but we didnt queue very long for drinks or food. The hotel bar and food prices were reasonable, I was quite suprised, and happy hour was a real treat!, and all this from someone who is...fussy! The hotel operated a card system, where your room key/card was pre loaded with money for use throughout the hotel,. This worked really well and saved you taking money out around the hotel, if you lost your card the reception put a stop on it immediately and issued another. Each person had a card and each card could be loaded, so children could have a little money for drinks and icecream etc.. The room had a safe which we hired for 2 euro per day.
Lots of reviews are very uncomplimentary to the animation team at the hotel, I feel that this is very unfair, I have never seen such a hardworking team. They were constantly active during the day with all manner of sports and games around the animation pool, they kept my eldest daughter busy and I think she is now an expert at volleyball. I never saw any rude behaviour, but then it was Feb and I guess that during the summer months, the hotel may cater for the more boisterous younger generation. There was evening entertainment which consisted of karaokes, "shows" ,and a late night disco, all headed by the animation team, whom appeared to do everything. During the day, if the animation pool was too much, the second pool was very quiet .
I found Playa deI Ingles to be very safe to walk about at night with the girls, it was all open, with shops and bars galore, on the whole this was a winter break and the resort was quiet, I don't think I would venture there alone in the height of the summer., it was obvious that it is geared up for clubbing!. We had a fantastic time, the weather was superb 28 - 35 degrees, we walked to the beach and the sand dunes, it isnt far, there is a free hotel bus but you dont really need it. There are taxis everywhere to take you all over the island and I would use them instead of a transfer if we go again, even if on a night flight.
I would definately go back to this hotel in the Low Season.

What a load of rubbish!

We booked this hotel as a last minute deal. After reading some of the other reviews I was worried if we had made the right choice. To anyone who has written a bad review about this hotel all I have to say is what a load of rubbish.
We stayed at this hotel for one week at the end of March and it was the best holiday I have had for a long time.
A lot of people have complained about the Germans staying in this hotel. The only time I saw any problems with the guests from other European countries was when the British acted in their typical arrogant behaviour.
The food in the hotel was good; menu changed every night to give variety.
The entertainment had everyone laughing all day.
The rooms were cleaned every day to a more than adequate standard.
The only other thing I was slightly disappointed with was parents not paying any attention to their children. If you have small children and want to relax, don’t take them with you!!!!!
I will definitely be going back to this hotel and would highly recommend it!!!!!
A++++++

We didn't actually choose this hotel as the one we booked was double booked.
The hotel is very large and slightly impersonal but the staff were all polite and tried their best.
We were actually on an all inclusive package but this isn;t fully inclusive.
The areas wher you can get served are limited and don't include the bars with entertainment or the pool bar. Once you get used to it, it works Ok but it was frustrating at first. Lots of facilities, large pool areas and lots of loungers.
The area we stayed in was tired with holes in the carpets in public corridors. Some other areas were better. The rooms are spacious and clean. The food in the main dining room was good quality and replenished regularly. The size of the dining room makes it feel a bit like a cattle market. International mix of guests. Not really suitable for single guests as too impersonal.
The garden and public outside areas were very pleasant. Quite a walk to the beach. Area very commercial. Near the Irish entertainment quater and the Kasbah commercial centre.
Other Lopesan hotels in the resort much higher spec.

This hotel is brilliant, I would highly recommend. My boyfrind and I went last week and were a little anxious after some of the reviews we had read. Very clean, polite staff and the food is lovely. As has been said before in reviews brits are in the minority, the hotel is mainly German however there are people from all over. Pools are fantastic, and really close to the beach.
Great hotel!!

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week in this hotel which we booked just two weeks ago as a last minute deal. The picture in the brochure and the reviews we read on the net did not do this hotel any justice! We highly recommend this hotel. It was huge, the staff very friendly and helpful, our room was very spacious and cleaned every day, the views were amazing, pools fantastic and the half board was great with a big variety of food. The hotel was well placed in the resort, near enough to everything you need. Although it would be very easy to stay in the hotel for the week lounging around the pool, we would advise you to get out and about to the neighbouring resorts of Maspalomas, Puerto Rico and the beautiful Puerto de Mogan. Great holiday and excellent hotel!
what a hotel

I cannot believe what a fantastic place this was, i have just come back from a week at this hotel and i cannot fault anything. 14 of us went on this holiday ages ranging from just 10 to 50.the weather report i looked at before i left said CLOUDY, what an understatement that was. The temperature was more like scorcing sunshine 25 to 35 degrees so make sure you take suncream but nothing over a factor 20. I am fair skin with blonde hair and i usually burn but i have come back with a fantastic tan.
Outside of the complex the locals are a bit touchy with the children (girl of 10) which i didn't like much but once she stayed with my husband it stopped. The Yumbe centre is quite something and not for the faint hearted after 11 at night. The one place i would not recommend is the Linker bar where the amount of money you pat for a drink (£6.00 for a bottle of beer) is just silly. I did go to aqualand and puerto de mogan on market day it was a good experience but be careful with your handbags. The holiday was most enjoyable by the whole lot of us, i am only telling you some things that happened to us which could happen anywhere in the world so don't be put off coming here. The animation team entertain us all week and they catered for every nationality going. All in i will certainly be going back asap
We'd Go Back Again

My girlfriend and I have just got back from spending two weeks here and we've decided that we'll come back to this hotel if we return to Gran Canaria. The hotel is large with 2 excellent pool areas, 6 bars, a large restaurant with a huge amount of choice and particularly excellent desserts (especially the ice cream). The hotel was also very clean throughout - the rooms, pools, reception, restaurant and bars were all very clean.
The only downsides to the hotel were to do with our room. Our room faced the main entertainment pool area and you do get very loud music until midnight and after the occasional drunk thought it was amusing to make louds of noise and wake people up, but the solution to this is to ask for a room which is in a different part of the hotel. Another problem with the room was that I found the mattress to be particularly hard and uncomfortable, I'd often wake up with a numb arm from where my elbow had been pressed on the mattress, for example. Finally the shower temperaturate fluctuated wildly unless you only turned it on half way and the bath drained very slowly even when showering it would fill up.
These really are only minor points however and it's easy to put up with them when the only time you spend in your room is to sleep or shower. Furthermore when we went for walks around the town we had good old snoop at the other hotels nearby and as far as we could see Buenaventura was the best by far.
All-in-all an excellent place to stay and great value for money!
Excellent hotel

Just returned from an excellent holiday at this lovely hotel. Stayed for a week's girly holiday with my daughter to celebrate her 18th. (she received a happy birthday note from hotel and complimentary champagne!) Six bars, (including a British bar) variety of entertainment. Well equipped gym, gift shops, clothes shop, hairdresser , masseur. Food - buffet style, plenty of choice to suit all tastes. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was large and nicely furnished. Hotel was very clean. Everything in good condition. Read an earlier review from someone who found their room noisy. I asked for a quiet room on booking and consequently got one well away from the entertainment area - just meant a further walk along corridor to get to everything. This is a large hotel. Hotel also has its own separate disco which is open until early hours so if your doors to balcony are open at night you may hear a little noise from revellers but nothing excessive. Within close walking distance of the good shopping, eating and bar/club facilities of the Kasbah Centre. Free hotel bus to beach and back each hour. Although there were Italian, French , Canadian and British guests I would say most guests were German.
superb hotel well recommended!!

What can I say...This was our 1st holiday together as a couple and it didn't let us down.We had read a couple of bad reviews but they were from years ago! Where the hell did they stay?! This hotel was one of the best I've ever stayed in. The place is huge with beautiful surrounding areas, 2 great pools one with entertainment and the other with jaquzzi's etc. palm trees everywhere and some great bars. Everything you need is on site ie. gym, hairdresser, shop, arcades. This hotel is extremely popular with the Germans and the entertainment was annouced in German sometimes but this didn't put us off. The hotel even has it's own nightclub which is pretty decent! There was some great dance shows and karoke nights and overall the entertainment was enjoyable. We went half board and found that there was a wide selection of food at the breakfast and Dinner buffets catering for all tastes. It was very easy to stay in the resort for the duration of the holiday however we remembered from other reviews that you should check out the rest of Gran Canaria! A Camel ride through the sand dunes of Masapalomous was great fun and cheap, Aqualand is fairly pricey for the amount of attractions it has to offer however, still good fun! We also went on a booze cruise and a pub crawl which weren't all they were cracked up to be so be careful. Also beware of the LuckyLucky women on the beachfront as they sucker everyone in 1st time by shaking your hand and tying a 'free' charm braclet onto you and then demanding money off you -if don't pay they set some Voodoo curse on you! The beach and views of the Sea are amazing with some big waves to have fun in. There is also a nice shopping centre close by although not as big as we'd heard. Everything is within walking distance of the hotel including all of the big clubs and bars. Taxis are cheap anyway if you want to go anywhere else ie. Go karting. We really enjoyed the holiday and this hotel was the main reason why. There are lots of couples and a few families but not big groups of youths which was good. The only downside is that as it is such a big hotel your room could be a bit of walk away from the reception (this will help burn those extra holiday pounds!) Truly recommend this Hotel if you're thinking of staying in Gran Canaria.
