More about Jardin del Atlantico

Jardin Del Atlantico

by TripAdvisor Member Happyshopaholic

My partner and I have just returned from a 2 week break at the Jardin Atlantico,

Rooms;
The rooms were better than I had expected, they were a good size and the maid service was really good. When we first arrived we were put in a room opposite the Irish Centre and ontop of the Disco, but after 4 nights we'd had enough of no sleep (and we couldn't sleep in the day as there were road works so the digger was on) so we asked to moved which they did the following day.

Drinks;
I found this to be one of the worst things about the hotel, you were only allowed 2 plastic cups (half pints) at a time (although some of the staff are a bit more flexible in the day). There was a big list of what you could have but the four different cocktails seem to be the same?!? Compared to our last hol this was poor, I got a bit sick of drinking out of plastic!

Entertainment;
There was absolutely no entertainment which was really annoying as the hotel was advertised as having some. I know most entertainment on hol isn't amazing but its nice to have some background noise or at the very least a bit of music.

Bar;
There were 2 bars, one was the pool bar which is open from 11am until 6pm and the other is in the restuarant, it wasn't a long walk but as there was no entertainment and the restuarant was so hot it was annoying walking back n forth everytime u wanted a drink.

Food;
The food was a real let down for me, there wasn't much variety at all. It was a shame because every so often there would be a meal that was really nice, beef cassarole, meatballs but then it would be awful again. You would never go hungry as there is something (chip buttys) to eat but it wasn't anywhere near as good as previous all inc hols.

Staff;
Some of the Bar/Waiting staff were really friendly some were not, but seeing as they start early, finish late and are there everyday I don't really blame them. The receptionist guy was horrible, he thought he was doing us a favour for sitting there!!
When I asked about the entertainment he just laughed and pointed at the Irish Bars, I tried to explain we were all inc and obviously we would have to pay over there but he didn't seem to care, on another occasion we asked about the Crazy golf, again we were told there was one arnd the corner where we had to pay!!

Area;
We went to the Irish centre but to be honest I didn't really like it over there, as soon as you walk past u have about 10 people literally shouting and dragging you to there bar, they offer u two for one etc but really its a con as a pint is usually 2.5 euros so they'll give u two and charge u 5 euros?!?
There is a place called the Cass Bar but again I found the drinks to be a bit over priced, we did go to the Yumbo centre to a drag shown twice which was really good fun and the drinks were cheap.
We ate at Scruffy murphys and the food was good but thought the portions were quite small, we also ate at Pink Ladys which was good and the Chinese buffet (mings) which was also really nice.
The best place though was called O'neils (i think) and was under all the Irish Bars, we ate pizza nearly every night and the chips were lovely too.

All in all I wouldn't recommend the Hotel or the area to be honest, I had a great holiday and met some really nice peeps but I like to have entertainment and a better choice of food and drink when I go away, (and a glass).

Oh the waterpark in Gran Canaria is really good well worth going and the taxis out there are really cheap x

Jardin del Atlantico- for the young and the restless

by TripAdvisor Member thrill-sunseeker

We booked this holiday last minute. 2 girls early to mid 20s. What we were looking for was a lot of sunshine and some good nights out. On this Jardin del atlantico delivered what we wanted. Our apartment was spacious and clean, although I wouldn't suggest having three people in an apartment because the third bed is not a bed at all but a narrow, and rather short sofa! Also I believe the same apartments are given to people who are self-catering which i would not suggest as there are not really the facilities to cook a good meal. I'm not hugely fussy about what I want in a hotel room I guess, but I am very picky about how clean a place is and I must say our room was spotless when we arrived and was cleaned every other day (very well).
The food: we went all inclusive and whilst we found the quality of the food very good it did become rather repetetive by the end. We ate out a couple of times, so it may be better to go half board. However if you are planning to drink a lot the free drinks definitely make up for having to eat out a couple of times. There are lots of places around to eat and the prices are very reasonable.
The nightlife: THIS IS NOT A RELAXING OR FAMILY HOLIDAY the front of the hotel is opposite the Irish centre which is fantastic if you are getting involved but a killer if you want to sleep. The bar staff at all the irish bars are really friendly and nice (for the benefit of single girls:the guys aren't sleazy and scary either which i always worry about on holiday!). If you want a more lively night and places to dance the kasbah centre is just down the road my personal fave places were buddha bar and chinawhite but there really is something to suit everyone.
No matter where you go there is always someone who will try and usher you into one bar or another, and almost all are offering free shots and cocktails!
The Beach: The beach is a short walk away from the hotel and i loved it, the ocean is so clear and clean and the sand is lovely. The sunbeds are also very reasonably priced.

All in all I loved it and would go back tomorrow if I could, but I wouldn't take kids or my family!

Jumping in my bed but not the romantic way...

by TripAdvisor Member Somesunplease78

We stayed at this hotel last year august,
the appartment was nice, staff as well, but..
I almost lost my mind during the long nights since the music from the bar (3 stores below us) kept me jumping in my bed until 4am. Terrible. And the most annnoying thing of all was that there were NEVER more that 5 guests in that bar, most of the time not even staff..
And the music was absolutely TOO loud.
The nicest dinners we had at the beach, touristy, but what else can you expect from place like playa del ingles.. Months after our vacation I still had cravings for the Paella over there...
Absolutely LOVED the dunes, almost every day we laid under a tree and relaxed.
Next week we are going to Corralejo Fuereventura, and hopefully the nights are less 'bumpy' as they were @ Jardin del Atlantico.

Nice stay

by TripAdvisor Member AMME3

We stayed at Jardin Atlantico over Xmas 2007. It was a quiet time on the island so lots of families and older couples and not too many crazy young people getting plastered and making noise etc. Our apartment was clean, spacious and suited us just fine. It was situated at the front of the hotel, facing the Irish centre, which could be noisy at night. If you are a light sleeper or intend to go to bed early, maybe ask for an apartment at the rear of the hotel. Otherwise we had no problems with Jardin Atlantico.

Holiday from hell!!!!!!

by TripAdvisor Member richf1

We booked the Hotel as a last minute thing, we went all inclusive which was our first mistake. On arrival at the hotel the place didnt look to bad though it does face the Irish centre which is loud and somewhat scruffy. Even from the 5th floor back room u can here the irish centre till 4 am followed by the council clearing up till 5.30 am.
The pools are nice although at weekends as many of the apartments are owned or leased by the spanish the sunbeds are gone by 7 am !
The food ... is well... to put it another way there are many good restaurants in Gran Canaria and i didnt think the jardin had one of them. In fact the poor quality of the food made us eat out every night .. every lunchtime .. o and every breakfast too! (scruffy murphys irish kitchen next door to mings(ing) chinese serves a wicked breakfast tho.
The accomodation was ok although we did one or two uninvited guests but in the Canaries you expect to see roaches . No air con not even a fan to move the air around and my god do they apartments get hot .
My honest advice is stay in puerto rico or even at home and avoid this place at all costs... £1400 flights and hotel for 2 weeks is £1399 to much to pay to stay at this hotel.

Great Stay!!!

by TripAdvisor Member BRUBR

We have had a great stay in those apartments. The score I give is ofcourse taking in consideration the price I paid, but for that price I think the apartments were good. I know it was very noicy in the front, thanks to the tripadvisor comments. Therefore I called a day in advance the hotel to ask for a quiet apartment. And this was granted, we received an apartment on the far backside: we have had no noice at all, it was even quiet, and far I could even see the sea. Apartment spacious and big balcony with table and chairs. TV is not for free, you have to put money in (1 euro for 45 minutes, 3 euros for 24 hours), but that is ok as in holidays I don't watch a lot TV anyway. Very friendly staff, 3 swimmingpools. Advise: do not take inclusive: food aparently not good and what a shame to pay so much more money if you have your own kitchenette; I was almost feeling like I should have paid more then those inclusives as I was aloud to cook myself! What is better then buying local products (fresh fish) and cook them (if you like cooking ofcourse :) ). The area is not nice, too touristic and tourist in a 'wrong' way: no Spanish touristic bars but all Irish, English, German pubs and discos (who wants to have Irish breakfast and dancing when you go to Spain??!!) I really couldn't understand why all those English are having fun in their English area, as if you go to a foreign country you want to know that culture, or is it me?? Anyway, we took a car for the full 8 days and I can really advise you to do that: easy to go to San Fernando where at least you see not a lot of tourists, go to Puerto Mogan or Puerto Rico for great views and swimming, visit the rum factory, look at the surfers in the north, go to the capital Las Palmas etc etc. Without car you can not do a lot (although there are busses) and you will be more dependend on the area Playa del Ingles (which is not the best part of the island), however the beach is great.

Our Worst Nightmare Holiday ever experienced!!!

by TripAdvisor Member angelicaEngland

Lets just say me and my partner was meant to be going for a well earned relaxing break, we turned up at the hotel and it was a building site in front of hotel no proper pathway as dug up with road in between the hotel and irish bars opposite. They didnt clean the main pool by the bar every day as insects and bits all floating in water. The food was disgusting considering we went all inclusive and paid more for it, which gave me stomach cramps and dierrara all through the week. We were told nothing about the building site or having a room facing the irish bars which went on til 4am in the morning and no air con in rooms so had to leave room window open. No entertainment in the evening which they said there would be, the bar closed at 11pm which is poor. You are not allowed music, balls, lilos by the pool either. 1 drink per person. Even the irish bar had a cockroach crawling up the wall and tiolet with no flush full of paper!! At the end of the week my partner had severe sickness and dierrara from the food - possible food poisening, i came home ended up the same way.

What To Expect

by TripAdvisor Member elizabeth1792

We’ve just arrived home from a 9 day stay at this hotel. It’s not nearly as bad as some of the reviewers have made it out to be! The rooms are spacious and clean, the maid service is great, better than some 3-star hotels I’ve stayed in. The food is edible although very boring but no-one was ill who were eating it every day. There are some great places to eat in the area if you don’t like it. We took All Inclusive as a back up and ate in the hotel three or four times. The AI drinks are small and are limited to two per person each trip to the bar, although it seems like this rule is only for those who spend all day and night drinking. The Irish Centre is very loud if you are staying at the front of the hotel but its nothing a decent pair of earplugs can’t fix. We preferred the two smaller pools than the main one which was a little murky after a summer of sun tan lotion. The hotel is clean though in need of a bit of decoration, a few cracked ceiling and marble tiles. Also there are major roadwork’s going on outside the hotel which is noisy during the day, though it means the Irish Centre is much quieter than usual. It also means that you have to drag your cases over a stony pathway from the side road to the main entrance. Don’t be put off by the bad reviews. It’s simply a case of you get what you pay for!

Nothing like as bad as I was expecting

by TripAdvisor Member Haymarket

Reading some of the reviews I was fearing the worst. However I had already booked and it was too late to change.

Fortunately I was very pleasantly surprised. The rooms are a very good size and quite well equipped. There is a big fridge freezer, a two ring cooker and loads of cutlery & crockery etc.

I was not on an all-inclusive tarrif but I saw the food on offer and it didn't look very exciting. Stick to room only.

The maid service is excellent with lots of fresh sheets and towels and overall the cleanliness could not be faulted. Outside in the pool areas there were lots of maintenance men tending to the gardens and cleaning the pools all the time.

The main road outside is still dug up and I suspect it will be for months. I only ever saw two men at work on it and they were not making any noise. It was only a very minor inconvenience.

The only major problem is the noise from the Irish centre which goes on until about three in the morning. Wax earplugs from Boots were very efficient and cut it out completely. Sometimes I wandered over and joined in the fun. After all, you don't really go to Playa del Ingles for a quiet relaxing holiday.
