More about Los Salmones Apartments

Me and my husband have just spent Christmas [2006] and New Year at Los Salmones. Before we went I read the reviews and wanted to change our accomodation because of the terrible reviews. I took cloths and cif to clean the room because I am particular about cleanliness. We were put in a ground floor room and it was a little shabby but we asked to be moved and went onto the 3rd floor. The room was basic but clean and well equipped. We had a very enjoyable stay there and I was so relieved after the things we had read about it. We would go back again. We did see a cockroach outside the hotel but none in our rooms.
Cheap, Basic rooms

After seeing many of the reviews here me and my two friends were a little apprehensive as to what we would face, we didn't pay a great deal for the apartments as we just wanted a base to sleep.
This is just what we got, a ground floor apartment that sleeps 4 people (1 bedroom and 2 sofa beds). There were some rowdy people nearby who left after a couple of days so no problems.
I would recommend that you ask for a first floor or above apartment as we didn't have a balcony (just a back door). A balcony would have been great to have a drink or breakfast on.
The pool is good with free sunbeds (you get the normal early morning towels grrrr!!!!!) and the beach is only a 5/10 minute walk but bear in mind there are quite a few steps down to the beach.
There are several bars/restaraunts within staggering distance of the apartments as well the Irish centre (great for breakfast and evening meals). A slightly longer walk (10 mins max) is the Kasbah centre with lots of clubs and bars. Pop into the Betuwe UK Bar for some cheap drink and say hello to Joanne and Danielle (you know it's a good bar when you're on first name terms with the bar staff!!!!). There's a 'shopping centre' feel to the main area where you go down some escalators to several bars/clubs. These are a bit more pricey and you get a lot pf people persuading you to go into one of their clubs (gets very annoying). I would say this is for the more 'clubbier people' and suspect doesn't get going until the early hours.
Anyway I'm meant to be writing about Los Salmones not the Kasbah.
The Los Salmones is cheap and cheerful for a week of drinking and sunbathing. You may get some noisey horrible people but then again you might meet some great people as we did. I would highly reccomend it for some winter sun!
Do not stay here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is just a review to warn you of the experience we had at Los Salmones.
We wanted a lively, central resort and we booked this two weeks prior to depature, named accomodation through Escapades. - we are in our 20s and have been with Escapades before so knew were to expect - or so we thought!
This is an absolute dump! The blocks of apartments are awful - circular design with a courtyard design - so the slightest noise everyone can hear.
The apartments are soooooooooo noisy at all times of the day and night - trust me we are no prudes, but 24 hours of constant noise and absolutely no sleep (not even drink induce) was just too much.
There were fights whilst we were there, the apartments were tiny, no way near big enough for 3 people. Beds were like sleeping on cardboard, people were urinating out of windows onto other balconies. The communal areas were filthy.
We only stayed there 24 hours and that was too much and then demanded to be moved.
If you value your holiday - please, please do not stay here

Very Central but bit noisy
by TripAdvisor Member SamDingle
Myself and two friends have just returned last Saturday from Gran Canaria. We were apprehensive about the apartment after having read the reviews. We found them to be very centrally located as near the Irish Centre and Point disco so no need for taxis home after a night out. They are bit noisy due to them being tower shaped which means that if there is noise on any floor it carries through the whole building as the centre is open. I really liked the fact that there were 2 sofas which meant one was kept as a bed and therefore there was no need to be pulling a bed out from under the sofa and making it up after returning from night out. The apartments are basic and clean but food was so cheap we didn't intend cooking in the apartment anyway. For anyone wishing to cook electrical appliances are available for rent from reception. Our bed linen wasn't changed during the week but we did get fresh towels midweek. It is probably more suited to under 30's and won't recommend it for families. The noise didn't really affect us as we were usually quite late returning home after night out also. It is located very close to road but once asleep the traffic did not disturb us. One would need to be up fairly early in order to get a bed as they seem to be taken up fast. Think some people placed towels on sunbeds on their way home at night as lots of towels to be seen in the morning but they didn't always have bodies lying on them!! We did see a few cockroaches but only on ground floor near the pool which I suppose is to be expected. These apartments are situated next to Green Field, Green Garden & Green Park apartments. However no outside guests are allowed into Los Salmones Apartments just in case you were feeling sociable!! We feel that we got good enough value for money considering we paid €333 for the package.
I Beg You To Stay Away

Please do not stay here, it is an absolute dump. I havent been for 2 years but i will never forget the condition of the place. We paid over 700 euro to stay here for 2 weeks and as we were all young we never bothered to complain. The apartments are filthy, tiny, covered with cockroaches, noisy, unsafe. We were on the ground floor which was flooded at least every second day. We sometimes had to scale the wall to open our door (honestly). Fair enough we laughed at the time (drunk) but looking back a lot of our possessions got wet. The cleaners were rarely seen unless sweeping up broken glass from the patios outside thanks to people throwing glass bottles down. The pool was so crowded you had to step over bodies to get anywhere. The pool was also filthy resulting in 4 of our party getting infections and taking trips to the hospital. One infected eye/ear from the pool, one swollen tongue from pool, One virus from pool..etc. There was a security guard walking around at night and he looked fairly dodgy. We often spotted him walking into rooms and looking around. A few of the other apartments were also broken into and one night we were asleep and two boys walked into our room. We eventually pushed our fridge up to the door. We had three apartments next to each other and one night one of us was in with the other girls chatting before bed. Suddenly the security man/night porter was banging ferociously on the door ordering her out. He marched her down to reception where she recieved an earful and was ordered to bed. We are not by any means loud or rowdy girls and we felt like we were causing trouble as if we were staying in a youth hostel WITH a curfew. The room was unbelievably small with a tiny bedroom for two twin beds and a small sofa bed outside small kithchenette and thats it. Money was stolen, possibly by the cleaners, on our last week. These apartments are full of young people which is great but also trouble. One night walking into my room i passed a guy of about 20 who smacked my head against my door and ran off laughing. This was amoung many incidents in Los Salmones. Please do not stay here especially if you have children or want a good holiday. Stay in the Greenfields, or something, they're right next door and look much better.
Great Holiday!!

What can i say after reading the reviews i was very nervous about these apartments! however had no need to be at all! We had a room on the 5th floor of block 2, never once had cockroaches and the maids came every day of our stay! The hotel is young and lively in the summer but as its out of season ive just got back and it was a mix bag of guests, young, old and families. Pool is fab, staff are friendly, entertainment is cheesy to say the least but always good for a few laughs before heading out, irish centre is one minute away (i recommend patricks bar! staff are fab!!) and Kasbah is 5 min walk away as is the beach. What more can i say, the rooms are small and we had a view of the road but as i was expecting the worst i was very pleasantly surprised..Great holiday! If you are going..enjoy!!

We were a little cautious when going to this hotel after reading the reviews and I nearly cancelled - However it wasnt that bad! It was oldish looking and needed some TLC but it was kept clean, the maids came in every day and the towels got changed regually. We did have a problem with the shower but it was fixed within 15 mins!!! The apartments are close to all the shops bars and beach and it only cost 30 euros from the airport by taxi. (approx 21 pounds). The staff were pleasant and the security guard (Elvis) always said goodnight when we passed by. The down side was that the rooms dont have telephones and kettles. And the satalite TV has only got Sky news, Eurosport, and one movie channel which is paid by coins. But then we only paid a little to stay there so we didnt mind.We highly recommend the Irish Tavern in the Kasbah centre, and if you like Sushi there are two restaurants near by. Overall 8/10

The apartment (they call bungalow) in 1 of the 4 polo-mint style towers (6 floors I think) was clean, basic, (my partner, who would have rather had 5* & I wer'nt expecting more) &clean towels about every 2nd day. It would have been more usefull if the shelf in front of the bathroom mirror was'nt missing, rather than cluttering the edge of the sink, but there were other mirrors. We had HB, but it was usefull 2 have a hob to boil a pan of water for a cup of tea, and a (full size) fridge (that some 4* hotel rooms don't have!) to keep drinks etc. cold. It seemed as if a lot of people were S/C as the 'canteen' was never that busy & wasnt run that efficiently, the food was edible & you can eat as much as you want, despite the choice being a bit limited compared to a bigger hotel, we ate out several nights.
We are young minded single people in our 40's & were not out of place in a relaxed atmosphere of mixed age group, there for sum winter sun.
all in all it's ok if you dont expect too much & I would go back again. We had a good holiday except my partner broke her arm, but she did manage to get it suntaned first!

We might visit Tenerife later this year
by wise23girl
If we were to visit Tenerife which town would you recommend ? Where to stay ? Which Hotel? and where is there entertainment.
Daniel O'Donnel talks of listening a singer named Jed Roberts ...where would that likely to be?
Any special recommendations in general ?
Thanks
Marg

HEY, we stayed 2 wks in Tenerife back FEB, 1989 and loved it! We were in a timeshare exchange in southern part of the island, right now forget the name of the area. But we drove all around and of course up to Tiede and that was really interesting. Also had some nice dinners in different areas.

Hi dont know if you visited tenerife yet just came across your post Jed Roberts sings in the El Mirador restuarant in the Del Duque area of Costa Adeje from sept onwards in their winter season - this area DEL DUQUE is the best area in tenerife with only 5 star hotels and bars with a beautiful white sandy beach in front of the Bars been there 5 times it is a real chill out area with sofas and beds to laze on and people watch. Hope this helped
