More about Riu Palace Maspalomas

The riu palace at the Dunes

by TripAdvisor Member jubs

Stayed for 2 weeks until 12th Aug.
I only booked because of the TRIP ADVISOR comments.
All previous comments praisng the Riu Palace are accurate, I travel a lot for business and this hotel deserves the accolades.
We are a family of 4 with 1 x 18 yr old lad and 1 x 11 yr old girl.
We were a little concerned that there was not an awful lot for them to do, but need not have worried as they had a ball just swimming and lounging.
Food and accom is top notch, the staff make it though, especially liked the way all restaurant staff (including Directors) line up to greet you to dinner. These guys really know how to "manage"a hotel.
Previous notes about the resident band are true they are awful and puzzling as to why when all else is so good and they are so bad, but the visiting star guests were all good ranging from Flamenco thru Drifters and Bee Gees tribute bands to Chinese acrobats.
Good mix of Nationalities, no football shirts or chavs either.
Do not hesitate, just go and see for yourself bet you won't regret it

Fantastic hotel

We went to the Riu Palace maspalomas and was amazed at the size of it when we arrived. It was a huge white hotel at the end of the road. The service was excellent, and the staff were so friendly and helpful, they couldn't do enough for you. The food is absolutely out of this world, our waistlines must have doubled by the time our holiday was over. There is a fabulous view of the sand dunes which you can walk over to get to the beach. At night the whole town comes alive with clubs and restuarants if you like that kind of thing but if not you can still enjoy peace and quiet. Didn't think much of the entertainment at the hotel itself, I think they could have done a lot more in that area, it's not suitable for families with children and teenagers, as there are no kids clubs. It is more for I'd say 50+ age group but apart from that it's definately a must visit hotel, and you won't be disappointed.

Excellent hotel

by TripAdvisor Member ARCC

My husband, my 3 years old girl and myself just come back from the hotel Riu Palace Maspalomas. We stayed there for 7 days (17th July to 24th July) on half board basis and we all had a great time there. This is one of the best hotel that we've ever been to.

Hotel Service
Everyone in the hotel just so friendly and efficient. Manager will come to greet you on your first day and even say goodbye on your last day. Very thoughtful. Everyone is very nice to children too.

Room
We have good size hotel bedroom with pool view. The whole hotel is very very clean. Well done to the housekeeping dept.

Food
Food is excellent with a wide range of choice. Although it gets a bit repeatitive after a few days, but you sure can find something new to eat every night. The breakfast is good too with a lot of choice plus they've got fresh fruit smoothies every morning.

Swimming pool
There are 2 main swimming pools and the temperture of the water is just great. I went there during July and I've got no problem finding sunloungers and parasols.

Hotel Guests
The hotel guests are mainly German

Location and Taxi
It's the perfect location for going to the sand dune, and it's a bit journey to any other places. However, the taxi there is very cheap. I went everywhere by taxi even to Palmito Park, only 20 euros. It costs around 3-5 euros to other places like Yumbo centre, Holiday World, Playa del Ingles and Faro lighthouse etc. Please note that it's slightly more expensive to travel on Sunday.

Overall, we all had a lovely holiday and I'll recommend this hotel to everyone. When we go on a holiday again next time, we'll definitely choose Riu hotels again.

Fantastic Hotel

As with all the recent reviews listed I can only confirm that this Hotel is fantastic. This is the 2nd Riu Palace we have visted this year and I now refuse to stay anywhere else, except a Riu Palace.

The food and service in the restaurant were 5* plus, the waiters were very helpful and the food was both cooked very well but with plenty of choice. The room was good size and kept very clean & tidy. We had an outside room but still had a really good view of the sea and sandunes as well as being able to people watch those on the promanade.

We like to be able to stoll on the level when on holiday and it was ideally placed right at the end of Playa de Ingles to walk into the town along the front. We also took a taxi (5 euros) to Melonoras where you can walk along a similar promande which has slightly more upmarket bars & restaurants.

The evening entertainment left a bit to be desired but the bar staff were great and more than made up for the poor entertainment.

Ideal for more mature people (like us) , younger couples so long as they are not looking for on site entertainment, large family groups with older or very young children. Not suitable for families with children 4 to 16 as there is no childrens club, and the atmosphere is fairly quiet and very well behaved.

We will most certainly be back next year.

Fantastic hotel

We found ourselves this year looking for reviews for next years holiday destination and kept getting frustrated as to why so little feedback on our favoured hotels and then realised I have never given feedback on any of those that we have stayed at, so here goes.

We stayed at the RIU Palace Maspolomas in Aug 2005 and my parents have just returned this morning (Sep 15th 2006) from there 3rd stay at the hotel (which also prompted me to write this review). They had last stayed in 2002, so was also interesting to hear how it had changed since their last vist.

I used to work for the largest airline in the UK so travelled quite a bit and was very fortunate to stay in some of the better hotels around the world, so have some grounding as to what is good and not so good!

The hotel is of a very good standard. We stayed half board and the food was very pleasant, we thought the half board option offered exceptional value. The service was attentive all around and we had an excellent time. Value for money, I would say the hotel offered "very good value for money". Breakfast was in the main restaraunt but and in the evening you could opt to either eat in the main restaraunt or by the main pool at one of the theme nights (Spanish-mexican etc).

We never found the pool area crowded and no need to get up at 6.00 am to reserve a sun bed, which can be an issue in some of Europe. For one they had signs prohibiting beds being reserved and in August (kids summer holidays in the UK and the busy period) we never had to worry as there were plenty of sun beds to go-around.

The only thing we missed was not having any where to walk in the evening, that was at least representative of the quality of the hotel. The local area is okay but a little low rent compared to the hotel if you know what I mean. Not bad but we were quite happy to return to the luxury of the hotel after a short stroll down the walk way to the side of the hotel. Not a major factor but we personally like a good walk after dinner. The sand dunes are lovely but a bit to "off road" for a walk in your high heels and dinner jacket!

As far as my parents comparison, very little has changed. They, as we did, met many people that are regulars and say that of the RIU Palace chain, it is the best. The food was of the same high quality and since they had visited, the second pool had been built (whirl pool and spray jets).

Overall the hotel offers very good value for money, the only thing in our opion that lets it down (for us) is that there is not a descent promenade in the evening to walk along. A really minor issue that will not stop our return in the future.

I look forward o giving a review on the RIU palace Tenerife in 2007, which we have just booked..

Will not disappoint

by TripAdvisor Member Olivewood

Having spent two weeks at this wonderful hotel, we can only say it was the best hotel we have stayed in so far. The staff were extremely friendly whilst retaining their professionalism. The Manager greeted you by name (quite a feat, as this is not a small hotel). The dining room was very large, but well proportioned, and the food!!!!! Large jars of caviar (red and black) - langoustines, etc. You will never not find something delicious to eat. The breakfasts were awesome, including spanish sparkling wine.
Spotlessly clean, we would go back again, but only for a week - our waistlines will not tolerate another two week binge!
The drinks are reasonably priced, the entertainment, apart from the resident band, was mostly top class.
The beds were enormous, extremely comfortable, and the rooms very pleasant.
We came back fully relaxed, having had a Cleopatra bath, Rassouli scrub and massage at the wellness centre.
I would recomment this hotel to everyone. It's an oasis. The Netto's over the road is also extremely useful for topping up the minibar!!!

HOME FROM HOME

Booked from this site in March. Knew the hotel from before when I stayed in cheeper accommodation as a younger man. Always wanted to stay there as it impressed me from the beach, especially the Gate on to the beach front.

Erery one of the staff were fantastic. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner were all excellent and good value. Breakfast outside in the mornings was such a treat.

There is a Grey haired distinguished Gentleman who seems to be the Restaurant Manager. He is one of the finest hotel ambasadors I have ver met. Such grace and presence. The restaurant staff all wear white jackets. I mean snow white not a stain not a blemish anywhere to be seen. Having worked in 5 star hotel all my life these are the things one would notice !! I will certainly be back in the future and have recomended to many since.

Must be one of the best on the island

by TripAdvisor Member Alan_Peck

Great hotel, excellent layout, private location with fantastic views of the dunes. Everything you would want from a 4 star Hotel, though it could quite easily pass as a 5 star.

This has got to be one off the best Hotels on the island - You will not be disappointed.

Will definately be back!

by TripAdvisor Member JollyHolidayer

I can only really add to all of the other excellent reviews already posted by holiday makers to this hotel. Everything was spot on - a truly wonderful five star holiday.

The best bits:-

The staff. From the moment we arrived (the early hours of the morning) until the time we left (late at night), the staff really couldn't do enough for us. It's apparent from the second you step through the door that service is paramount (we were very impressed when the hotel manager personally introduced himself and wished us a good time on our first night). This hotel obviously invests a lot of time and money into training their staff and this showed 100% of the time.

The food! I've come back 6lbs heavier - need I say any more!!

The cleanliness - everywhere is spotless and housekeeping of a very high standard.

The whole ambience of the hotel. The hotel itself appeals to an upmarket clientele and doesn't attract many young children. The pool areas were superb, as were the sunbathing and sunloungers, complete with matresses. Very cosy.

My only (very minor) gripes, but to some these may be advantages:-

The hotel is situated in the middle of nowhere (well, ok, 20 minutes brisk walk away from the action of Playa del Ingles), with literally nothing to do in the immediate area around the hotel. In a way the hotel have got you, but drinks are reasonably priced for the standard of the hotel and it is a pleasant walk if you fancy it into PDI.

Sand everywhere!! Because this hotel it literally located on the sand dunes, when the wind blows (which it quite often does!) we got covered from head to toe in sand. Obviously though, the hotel cannot control the weather, but I thought I'd include this just to make you aware (best to sunbathe nearer the hotel itself if you're not too keen on sand).

Do go and enjoy, I'm positive that you will love this hotel. We will be back!

nice hotel

by TripAdvisor Member lesleyeyre

well we stayed here for our honeymoon on the 12th august 2006 the hotel was fantastic really nice, the staff were really pleasant too and the views well they was fantastic. the downfall of this hotel was it wasnt as close to the clubs an pubs as i would have liked, so we had to do a lot of walking, so by the end of the week my feet had swelled up like balloons.we went half board the food was fantastic but it was always really full(mostly with germans), one night my husband and me went down for tea he had 3 quarter trousers on and looked really smart but they wouldn't allow us to eat as he didnt have full length ones on, after that we went out for tea as he doesn;t feel comfortable on holiday with long trousers on. overall it is a really nice hotel but for us it was just too posh we felt like everyone was looking down on us. it would be great if you like to get really dolled up at night. but as me and my husband like to go out get rowdy and have a laugh this wasnt for us. if you could go self catering we would go again as the pools were lovely, and again those views were to die for..
