H10 Taburiente Playa: Excellent if not the stench...

One of the few hotels on Isla de la Palma that boasts four stars. Very clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, no overcrowding, impressive design with the real waterfall in the central hall. Two pools, one 27C, another the same temperature (and the water) as in the sea. A nice sauna for one or two people. The food is traditional local, not exquisite but healthy and fresh. The capital is a short bus ride away, there nice cosy bars and restaurants next door. We stayed in March, very sunny but the air is fresh and crispy. Wonderful.
There is however one but powerful "but". The stench that comes from the sink in the toilet or maybe from the ventilation. It's not a particular room problem, others have that too. Moreover, people who stayed here several times told me the stench had been around for a few years. Indeed, one can feel it even outside the hotel. It does not come every day but maybe each second day depending on - I don't know - wind? humidity? atmospheric pressure? i don't know and I don't care. The hotel management should know and care. It is clear that I cannot recomment it to my freinds unless the problem is resolved

Aparthotel Las Olas: Aparthotel Las Olas

We hads two choices of hotels in Los Cancacjos on Isla la Plama:
One had better rooms , one had better food. We opted for Las Olas with the better sized rooms as it suited our purposes more. We had a large bedroom and modern bathroom shower over bath) and a separate lounge with kitchenette, equipped with two rings, fridge and microwave. (No kettle so bring your own) A good sized balcony overlooking the sea too.
There are 5 apartment blocks arounf the main reception and restaurant block set in pretty gardens with 3 swimming pools. Maid service was 5 times per week.

Although an aparthotel we were on half board option. Now we had heard varying reviews about the food and they were accurate: Staff are limited so its a case of pick up your own cutlery and serviette and sit where you want. A decent selection of food - soup, salad, main courses, deert and delicious ice-creams. Theme nights twice - Italian and Canarian. If you could catch the food as it came out of the kitchen then it was hot otherwise soon became lukewarm. Microwave was present to re-heat food!!......obviously not ideal quality but it was often used by guests. We never had a bad meal and didn't feel the need to try the restaurants nearby in resort so in all made a good choice.

The other hotel - Hotel Taburiente was 5 mins nearer to the beach but was much bigger and less attractive looking IMHO.

We booked a package tour with a UK company - £265 per week/per person. inc direct flights from Manchester.

Teneguia Princess/La Palma Princess: A haven if it is offseason

Although it is a 1000 bed complex because of its vast area you don't feel threated by the other guests especially at off season. I don't really know what it is like in summer. We insisted on a room with sea view and had to pay an extra 15 Euros per day but it was really worth it as we were not prepared to stay in the other buildings where your view was another building. The gardens are beautifully layed out and all kinds of tropical flowers adorn the surroundings. The pool area is really huge with numerous pooland there is space for everyone and you can always find a quiet corner. We discovered that rather than have breakfast in the vast dining room you could have breakfast from 9:00 onwards by the pool with a view of the sea and under palm trees. There was enough to choose from at the buffet but they did not offer much tropical fruits. There was freshly cut oranges, grapefruits

EntreNaturaleza.com: Casas Rurales, La Palma

We did not stay in these accommodations.

However, we met the owner of the apartments, who was very friendly and gave us a ride after we got a bit lost during one of our hikes.

He also gave us his business card. You can contact him for accommodation on La Palma.

Nazcodiaz Apartments, Los Llanos

We stayed in this small apartment complex in Januari 2008. The apartment lies about 1 km out of the center of Los Llanos and offers a fabulous view at the Barranco de las Angustias (translated The Valley of Mortal Fear?) of the Caldera de Taburiente.

The location is perfect as basecamp from which you explore the island. Rental car is highly recommended.

The two-person apartment was very small with hardly any closet space or space to leave suitcases etc. Very clean upon arrival, but is not cleaned during your stay. However, sheets and towels are changed weekly.

The swimming pool is so small that it is not worth mentioning. But the sea is about 15 minutes away by car, so who needs a swimming pool anyways?

We stayed here as a package deal with flight and car included, booked with a Dutch travel agency, so I do not know the price/night, but this package was one of the cheaper ones.

Los Molinos: Nice views on the green east side

It´s situated on the east green side of the island. In breña baja next to San jose village. Very quiet place, with views of the coast, airport and the mountain. You can see the planes taken off and landing from here, but don´t worry, it isn,t noisy beacuse it is far away and it is a small airport, about 20 aircraft a day.
They are new, but it wasn´t very clean for a asmatic person, it was dusty.

Appartements Los Molinos are about 8 km from the capital Santa Cruz at 400 m. above sea-level, and 500 metres off San jose, I recomen the restaurant San Pancracio for breakfast lunch or dinner.good food and really good prices.

Outside is a swimming pool, large sun-terrace, minigolf, childrens playground and private parking space.

Asociacion Turismo Rural: Special deals everywhere

Rent dozens of well kept serviced holiday homes ,as this island has no direct European mainland charter flights it really is not touristically developed . They are very reasonably priced.

The one we had bordered between functunal and delux, some of the basics were missing {kettle/ microwave }but we did have a jacuuzi.... and fantastic views complemented by wonderful sunsets over the ocean
