Lanzarote is classy.....

I enjoyed renting a car and discovering all the beautiful little beaches and coves.Seeing the baron scenery and just stopping off where ever i liked.Valle de la Geria is worth visiting. This area seems black and baron and dead, but wine is grown here. Its very strange scenery, almost like being on another planet.Beautiful flowers grow along roads here in spring. The vineyards are weird too. Each vine grows in a hollow dug into the shingle like rock. There is a small stone wall built around part of each hollow. This is to protect the vines. It is very sucessful as over 200kgs of grapes can be grown on each vine.I think the vines look pretty.Make the landscape look unsual but beautiful. The grapes make dry white wine and it can bought in Uga in Bodegas.Be careful when walking here as rocks here are very sharp.Well worth seeing as the landscape is very scenic and yet baron but beautiful. Lanzarote was very natural and i miss the laid back atmosphere. As there are no big hotels, the place is beautiful and unspoilt, which is hard to find nowadays.I found the Island pleasantly uncrowded and very relaxing.I would say that Lanzarote is a very classy, tasteful place. There is so much to see and do.
The food here was fabulous and the wine (which is grown here)was the bees knees...
Lanzarote has a special charm and Cesar has made it this way....
[AROUND LANZAROTE: car hire and small distances]
by pikuu
Lanzarote is not a big island. The size south-north is about 60 km and west-east about 20 km. So sizes have a big influence for distances' perception. Usual distance between immportant visiting places is not bigger than 5, 10 sometimes 20 km. I suppose that You travel home-work can be longer than trip from (for example) Costa Teguise to Jardin de Cactus (only 15 min.). Here on Lanza everything is close :)
The bus network is great between main resorts and capital. Every 20-30 minutes you can use tha bus Costa Teguise - Arrecife (about 1 Euro). But travelling by public bus to the central or north places is difficult. So the best way is to rent a car. Petrol is cheaper than in almost all the European countries and also rent payment is not too high (maybe because some kind of price competition between car hire offices).
Haria
by rachel_sun
I found Haria very green and full of palm trees and other plants. Not many people come here and i liked that as it was very quiet. It is very unspoilt too.The little streets were lovely to walk along and i loved seeing all the beautiful trailing flowers in blossom.I came apon a main square and loads of birds singing and i sat in the shade and it was so relaxing.I think i liked the area so much as it was so green and there were palms everywhere and cacti. As we drove upto the village we saw big meadows and fields full of crops and flowers. We stopped at a view point on the way to the village as it had great views and just admired the beautiful green lush valley. It was so different from all the rest of Lanzarote.
Tea drinkers
by lomi
You will find that Lanzarote is not an island of tea drinkers. If you go to a cafe bar or restaurant you will find decaffeinated coffee, expresso coffee, white frothy coffee (americano), and cafe con leche con leche (coffee with milk and evaporated milk...very very sweet).
Or, camomile tea is available (manzanilla), at most bars, which is served in a small cup.
Ocassionally a bar may have teabags and serve it with luke warm water, so if they have teabags available, you may want to remind them to serve it in boiling water!
