More about La Florida Apartments
First time Lanzarote hopefully not last
Just returned from PDC.Stayed at the La Florida apartments. We heard mixed reviews about these apartments but found them great. The things
people were complaining about we found really petty. We were very pleasently surprised at the quality of the accommadation, not luxurious by any means but very clean and comforable with a few extra
special touches, like wasing up liquid, tea towels, paper tissues, sachets of body lotion and bottled water. Situated in the Old Town they were convienent to the best restaraunts in PDC. Had some fantastic meals at the most reasonable prices down by the harbour. All the staff in the restaraunts and the apartments were very friendly and helpful. We even managed to get paella for 1 (usually min of 2 people). Did the Short South Tour and enjoyed the camel ride, although it was an experience i won't be repeating. All in all we had a wonderful week and cannot emphisize enough these apartments are fine, not 5 star by any means but for the price they are a good 3
star and an excellent 2 star. Would definatly go back to them again.
Just got back
Just got back from a weeks break at the La Florida apartments, (Me 37, wife 36, and a 2yr old)
Lets talk firstly about some older reports, the lane, where's the problem here, it's a road, okay it's only wide enough to take one car and would have room either side (probably about 12 feet wide) with a pavement on one side, and a side of a house on the other (there are no dark door ways or anything like that), there is also lighting up the one side. The distance from the main road is about 30 paces. In the week we stayed here i never saw a car drive down it either as it only one way and it leads to local housing.
Cockroaches, saw one in the week, it was dead and about 1 mile from the apartment.
Cats, saw 3 cats all week
Noise, now there's the only problem, there are 3 blocks, block 1 has 8 rooms, block 2 has 24 rooms and block 3 has about 44 rooms.
If on arrival you are given a room key from 101 to 108 be prepared for noise. Or get them to change your room without even going to it. You will be sleeping above the local super market and the Irish Bar Jinty McGinty's. The supermarket open at 8.00 but delivery's do start early about 6ish and Jinty's does go on quite late.
We were in 103, only for 2 days before we moved, only across to block 2 which was much better, the only noise you get is from other rooms (as the walls seem to be paper thin) or from the guys setting up the sun beds around the pool in the morning.
The receptionist is ok she is not full of smiles but did everything i needed. I think the only happy people on the island are the guys trying to get you into there bars or restaurants.
Don't pay for transfers from the airport, you can get a taxi to the hotel from about 13 euros each way, much cheaper than the travel agents.
The location is good if you want to get to the harbour and old town, a bit of a walk to the beach, not the 400m mentioned on some webpages.
Would i stay here again, yes i probably would as long as i am not in block 1.
Good value, clean rooms
Me and The Hubby stayed here 15th - 22nd Feb 07. We arrived at 8pm so reception still open, its true about the recepionist not looking very happy but we didnt take it personally. We were on the 3rd floor which is quieter than others and has lovely sea views. The apartment was quiet clean, furniture a bit dated but we,re never in the apartments that long. Beds/bedding really clean and bed comfy enough. Hie of the safe is 18 euros per week with 6 euros returned when you hand back the key, tv is 12 euros per week. There were extras in the apartment such as coffee machine, microwave, juicer but no oven.
There is no air con so i would imagine it would be very hot in the summer also the ground floor rooms are quite noisy especially the ones right outside the tabletennis area, people played on it from 8am!
The weather at this time was lovely overall it was a bit cloudy in the mornings then got out pretty hot., so we both had a nice tan.
Overall i would reccomend thisplace for break in a warm climate
but be prepared for the long walk up the hill.
on a hill
First impresstion was 'where had we been dropped off?'
The apartment entrance is between a Bar and a Supermarket along a dirty corrider, round a bend and into a dim reception, where we were met as described before a young lady with no smiles on offer. (everyone seems to reviews her the same way) .There is no lift so carrying the suitcases up about 24steps is hard work. But at the top you are met with a lovely view of the pool.
We were allocated 202 (the middle block and on the pool level. A plain simple room, two large single beds, plenty of wardrobe space but no drawers, Bathroom long and narrow, lounge kitchen area, ample space, wall to wall windows give good light, The Microwave, Juicer, Toaster, Coffee grinder were a good addition, and the 'four of everything' good too.
There is a side entrance for use when reception is closed, and a lot easier than the stairs.
Try and get your room booked in block 3 - block one in above the bar and supermarket, Block two is a little quieter, but you can here noise from the supermarket early. We never got into block three but we were told they were quieter, but there were more stairs, and again no lift.
The pool bar is the bonus here, chatty English staff, excellent food and reasonable prices too.
The only problem was there is no staff on to regulate the noise of the guests, large groups can be noisy and spoil it for others and in the evening the noisy guests returning were not cautioned.
The property if on a steep hill, so if you have problems walking you can always hail a taxi ( very reasonable)
There are plenty of restaurants and bars, Chadwicks down the hill on the right hand side is run by an English couple Jen and Martin. Get then to direct you to Bellinis (wonderful) Go down to the harbour and eat in the tapas bar (fantastic) - We were there 14days and had a wonderful holiday, hope you do too.
We were dropped off not knowing were we were going but we soon figured out that if we walked down the hill it was in between a supermaket and an irish bar. We walked through to reception to see that it was closed so we had to pick up our keys from the irish bar and go in through a side gate which you would use when reception is closed. When we got to our apartment which was in block 3 we thought it was very clean tidy and spacious. The pool was lovely during the day and nice to sunbathe by. I dont know what all the reviews about the receptionist were for she was pretty nice to me. There were a few cats around but nothing major. If your young and going there to get drunk every night you'd have to get a taxi into the new town which is full of clubs and bars that are open till late every night. Theres also a pool bar which opens from 9am - 5pm. they serve food and drink at resonable prices. Over all i had a really good stay in these apartments and would rate them far better than a 2 star. Just ask for a low floor room because theres no lift and it wouldnt be good if you had to carry your suticase up all the stairs. For £9pp per night its a bargain!
we have just returned from a lovely holiday. the position of the apartments was perfect for a short walk to a beautiful harbour with lovley restaurants especialy the dolce vita and the anchor restaraunt at the end of the habour. beautiful food and so cheap.
lovley open bar on the front where you could watch the children playing in the park area in front.
we only paid 110 for a week in the apartment and feel it was excellent value for the money we paid, but we would not return to these apartments again.
pool area was immaculate and the pool was cleaned daily. the rooms were very basic but clean. we were in block 3 and we are not a family of cat lovers and found the stench of car urine when to you come out of the door unbearable.
you could not leave your patio door open incase the cats got in. even on a night sitting on the balcony having a drink there seem to be constantly two cats lurking about..
what a horrid receptionist how she hasnt been sacked by now i do not know. she wouldnt give my son the table tennis bat and ball because it was 10 mins to reception closing for the afternoon and she would not let him have them until it treopened 4 hours later.
we did have a lovely holiday and feel we got what we paid for and we would definatley return to this lovely liitle place but would stay somewhere else next time.
The Apts were really nice this was my first time on a self catering holiday and also my first time to one of he canary islands, The apts were quite large, the bedrooms were really big the beds were large single beds with ample wardrobe space.
The kitchen was very clean and very nice, the fridge was quite big and also had a microwave, toaster and kettle with a 2 ring hob. The only thing that let it down was the fact that it didnt have an oven but was fine didnt need one. It was good that it gave you one free bottle of fresh water chilled and washing up liquid with dish cloths and everything.
The pool area was very clean and the water was very nice especially to cool you down. it was good that they had ample sunbeds that were free. The pool bar was very clean and cheap for food and drinks.
It was good that you didnt have to climb all the stairs in the reception and you could just use the side gate which we used all the time. The women on the reception were both very nice and not moody at all. There was also a very large pool/snooker table in the reception and a computer which ment you could keep checking on your emails if you were expecting somthing, 30 mins for EUR2.
The only thing that I didnt like about the apts was the fact that it didnt have a lift but we didnt need one as we were on the ground floor in block 3, I said to my mate who I went with if that is the noisy block then the other two must have tripple glazing and 6 ft walls as we didnt hear any noise unless the balcony door was open.
Overall I really enjoyed my stay and we are planning our next trip to Lanzarote next April and staying at this apt!!!! IT WAS DEFO NOT A 2 STAR APT IT WAS AT LEAST 3 OR 4!!!!
good value 4 money
just got back.was there the end of april ,start of may.id read the reviews on the appartments and was a bit optamistic but when we arrived ,all i can say is that u cant please some people.we got there and the receptionest was really nice, she cant speak very good english, thats why people think she is not friendly.we were in block 2 behind the worst block 1.the appartments were very clean ,lots of room and had a lovely terrace.had every thing u need.pool was very clean,as was the pool bar.if u go use the side gate.a lot easer.jinty magintys is good 4 ur breakfast, very friendly .as u start to go down the hill, call into the red rose cafe.exellent value 4 money, very friendly staff that will bend over backwards to help u.this was my first trip to the island and have to say that it was a nice relaxing holiday.bit windy ,u get used to that, the beach was spotless, puts uk beaches 2 shame.downsides were,u sometimes dont get the chance to keep the room on.depends on how buzy they are.cleaners come every day and dont speak english, telling them to come back when ure hungover is not good.there is a pub across from the beach called the gallion.avoid it like the plaige,we went there and ordered food.the waitress brung the food and we started to eat.i then noticed that the cheese burger was raw inside.i got her to change it and she brung an other,it was raw again.when i complained she said "i no it looks raw but it isnt"i didnt order any thing after that and didnt go back, pity 1 place spoiles it 4 the others.overall its a good place to go on holiday
At the apartments we had rooms with a sea view were great. The apartments were very clean and spacious. The pool area was great pool was big enough and there was plenty of sun loungers and a bar/cafe within it very handy and cheap. The location of the apartments were also good there were local pubs and entertainment around us and it was only about a 5 to 10 min walk to the main stripe. if wanting to use taxi they were also very cheap.
"puerto del carmen"
Lanzarote is not a place I would have chosen, but a friend offered to take me,all expenses paid!
We stayed in Puerto del Carmen,in the Old Town, which was charming.'Our' little beach was a walk down the hill where our apartment was situated. (Florida Apartments). The walk back UP the hill was horrendous.Others have called it 'cardiac hill'! There are many reasonably priced restaurants and numerous bars in the main part of Puerto, which was walkable from where we were.We did bus trips around the island,an excellent way of getting about.
Florida apartments were lovely, with large pool and kids' pool. The management were not helpful about getting us and our luggage up the 12 stairs to the main part of the complex. We had small children and buggies and they offered no help,so we had to do it in 'shifts',doing cases, then kids, one at a time, then us!
We missed greenery as the island is devoid of plantlife and trees, but volcanic landscape is pretty dramatic.Taking the bus to the far west end of the island was an exciting trip through the 'moonscape'.My friend's 3 year old said it looked like unfinished car parks being built everywhere! He spotted dried up river beds under bridges that we drove over.A very observant 3 year old!
our 'little' beach was perfect for us and the kids. The main beach has no shade, unless you pay for a sunshade, and the heat is searing. The beach was too hot to walk on without shoes! That was in May!
Picture is of the delightful harbour of the Old Town of Puerto del Carmen.
This little one sat, watching us eat our meal. She was tiny and skinny, so we just had to throw her bits of food--she loved the omelette!
"Puerto del Carmen-Old Town beach"
The main beach of Puerto del Carmen is amazing--long, sandy, no shade(except by paid for parasols). We found this delightful beach, on our walks to the main town.It was perfect-it had rock pools for the kids, and me, to play in, shade and was not used by the majority of the trippers.
A diving school is located here and the kids thought it was hilarious to see huge, black-clad 'monsters' emerging, unexpectedly from the sea!
It would take about 10 minutes to stroll down here from our apartment--a lot longer to struggle uphill with all our clobber.
It didn't take us long to discover why it was called 'cardiac hill'
Beware--the pavement of this hilly street is paved with tiles, so can be a bit skiddy!
I went sprawling on a couple of occasions, much to the amusement of my friend's 3 year old!.
The palm trees were the only trees we saw.
The island has a profusion of cactus. They are huge.People seem to grow them in the front gardens of their villas, as we would grow rose bushes!Enormous spikes much more deadly!
