More about La Penita Apartments
Love La Penita
We returned to La Penita for the 3rd time in April and once again we weren't disappointed. Each time we have requested a sea view room and the staff have always met this request. Rooms are clean, spacious, and well maintained which is a good recommendation from me as I can be hard to please. The complex is well situated and is only a 10 minute walk down to the main beach although there is a little cove at the side of The Plaice which is very nice.
There are a few people who bag sunbeds - think they're a bit sad and don't see why they bother because there's always a bed available.
The food in the bar is excellent value. The chicken salad baguettes are to die for and they do an excellent jug of sangria.
Restaurants/bars are plentiful. For an Italian you can't beat Pinocchio's on the main stretch to the old town we had a 3 course meal with a couple of drinks each for 28 euros. Lanis indian is excellent although a bit on the pricey side. Didn't rate La Rueda very much.
We loved the American Indian Cafe and their cocktails are ace.
Not to be missed if its your first time on the island is a trip to the camels and then onto Tirimanfya.
ps if you're a repeat visitor to La Penita you can get a 10% discount. We love it and are just in the process of booking another holiday to celebrate our wedding anniversary in September. Can't wait!
Great apartments for thw whole family
I stayed at the la penita apartments with my wife,51, and child,12. The apartments are very clean and the staff always have a smile on their faces and are always happy to help! My only complaint about the apartment was there was no fans on the roof although you do get a standing fan it only blows out hot air! The pool is cleaned everyday and you also have an entertainer called Pedro who does waterpolo at 3pm and also does bingo and other fun activites with the kids.
The apartments are really near the front so no long walks! the restraunts are really tasty but don't go to lani's indian because we ordered 4 chapatis and they cost 10 pound and they were as big as my hand. The mucky duck is a place to try if you want pub grub but if you don't then i would say not to go there!
So over all my stay was great at Lanzarote and i would definetly go again to the La Penita apartments!
Fantastic Apartments - you won't be disappointed!
Just returned from two weeks staying at La Penita Apartments. It was out first time staying in an apartment - we have always stayed in a hotel before so we were not sure what to expect. All I can say is that these apartements had everything that we wanted. They were very spacious, we had three adults and one child in our apartment and there was plenty of storage space for clothes etc.
Our room had a view of both the sea and the pool area from our balcony. Rooms are well equipped with fridge, toaster, microwave and fan. Maid service was excellent!
Entertainment was provided through the day by Pedro..........pool aerobics, target shooting, football, water polo and tennis. It's up to you how much you want to get involved.
Sunbeds are plentiful and we always managed to get one for all four of us even after we had spent the morning out shopping.
Loads of places to eat - prices varying depending on what you wanted. You must try the crepes from the stand just down the road from the apartments - run by man with long hair - they are to die for!!! Particularly recommend the Grand Marnier!
Overall we had a brill holiday and will definetely be going back next year to these apartments.
La penita is a fantastic place to stay. Rooms are very big and clean, staff are friendly, great location, nice food in pool bar. Will certainly stay here again. An absolute bargain for a 2 star hotel, should think it deserves a 3 star rating. You won't be disapointed.
Have just returned from a week at the la penita apartments, arrived after 11pm and was amazed to discover a small but suitable shop selling milk etc outside the gates of the la penita. There is also a secuirty guard and the gates are locked at night (you are given a key).Stayed in apartment 139 on the ground floor, its was both spacious and had enough facilities for a couple. The apartments are cleaned every day apart from weds and sundays and towels and bed linen is changed regularly. There is a sign saying you are not allowed to reserve sunbeds, but nevertheless towels were seen on beds around 9am. However there is no need to there are plenty to go round all situated to capture the sun. The pool bar is good for drinks and snacks however somedays the food was good others it was not. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and if you have a late flight there is a shower room to use at no extra cost. There is an abundance of restaurants to try, some good, some bad. We would recommed pinnochios, lanis indian, the codfather (offering simple fish and chips) and el cangrejo roja. There is something for everyone. I would definately recommend la penita and will return again.
Great value apartments!
La Penita Apartments are excellent value. We had a very spacious one bed apt with TV with some English channels incl. movies, toaster, microwave, kettle, coffee machine and most importantly a fan - great as there is no air conditioning. Our apartment was only a short walk to Avenida de las Playas and all the restaurants and bars. We couldn't fault the cleanliness or the servicing of the apartment. The towels were changed 3 times and the bed linen changed twice during our week. Customer care at Reception was one of the best I have experienced, nothing (within reason) was too much trouble.
This was our 4th stay in Puerto del Carmen area and we found it has become a bit 'tacky'. At night we had to run the gauntlet of the relentless bar touts who were quite intimidating and in a lot of cases refused to take no for an answer and would follow us down the street.
I would recommend Universo for eating out in the evening. We had most of our meals there and all of them were superb and the service was excellent. Cafe La Ola has a lovely location and I would recommend a visit just for the surroundings alone - people watching there is hilarious!
One of the best things in Puerto del Carmen is the new Biosfera Shopping Centre which is situated between the new and old towns - the bus stops directly outside if you don't fancy the hill in the heat. Mango, Zara and especially Bershka are fantastic value and have lovely stuff which you just can't find in Ireland.
We took the bus into Arrecife and weren't impressed at all. The walk from the bus into the centre is quite nice but if you want shopping better to stick to the Biosfera.
Lanzarote itself is a lovely island and you should make the effort to hire a car and go out and see the sights. Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Rio, El Golfo etc are all well worth a visit. If you don't want to hire a car you should do the Grand Tour but just make sure you book directly through the office on the main strip (can't remember the name). Cost with them is 50 Euro as opposed to 70 Euro through the Tour Reps.
All in all, Lanzarote is great for a cheap break - we only paid £165 each for the week at La Penita - but if you want culture, to be honest, there's not much of it on the island.
La Penita Apartments wont disappoint. We had a fab 1 week stay and enjoyed every minute of our stay at La Penita. We where in room 231 (1st floor and at the end of the block )which had a balcony view of the sea (very nice) and our front door & bedroom window faced the play area (handy to keep an eye on our 7 year old.) I had emailed the hotel prior to our visit to request a pool or sea view room on the top floor. Overall i was happy with the room we where given.
La Penita is a very relaxing place to stay and there is a good play area for children although at the time we stayed there wasnt many children.
There is a shop just outside the complex which is open until midnight if you are arriving on a late flight.
The rooms are very well equiped and very clean.
There seem to be many people who visit La Penita year after year and after our visit i can see why.
Only downfall is the pool is quite cold but apparently there is plans to get it heated. Once your in though its fine.
Puerto del Carmen is a very nice area too. Loads of restaurants to pick from. We found some lovely restaurants on the sea front with beautiful views. If you come out of the complex turn left and head down the main road approx 400-800m and on the otherside of the road you will see a Childrens Play area (Trampolines etc) You will see steps leading down to a couple of restaurants. All are worth a visit especially if you can get a table by the sea. (arrive before 7.30pm)
Another is if you turn right out of the apartments on the main road. Head down the road for apporx 200-400m where you will see a bar/restaurant with a ramp that slopes down to the sea (has a roof-top platform above). This is a Chill-out bar and a restaurant. The bar has a 4 poster bed and other lounges that you can relax on and enjoy the sea view. Excellent for sipping cocktails as the sun goes down.We also had an excellent meal here. Children welcome too.
Overall La Penita is an excellent place to stay and you are sure to enjoy your Holiday.
Stayed here in april 2007 for a fortnight. I had booked apartment direct over email and managed to request a room over looking the pool. The street outside is really noisey though and the garbage collection seems to be carried out at the convenient time of 4am..... that'll wake you no doubt.
Only other complaint I had was that despite claiming to prevent the hogging of sun loungers the staff actually did nothing to prevent it. One day I counted over 50 beach towels round the pool and only 4 people sunbathing, which is one of my pet hates, especially when some folk leave their towels "reserving" for often more than 3 or 4 hours at a time.
Other than that the apartments were good value, and clean too. Reception staff were firendly.
The thing that mostly rattled my cage was that the female assistants in the supermarkets nearby seem to have developed a nasty habbit of making fun of the tourist that can't speak Spanish, which is really rude considering they wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for our tourist Euros!
Luckilly there is a small supermarket right outside the main gates of la penita and the guy that owns/runs it is really friendly. He closes from 2 - 4pm though.
Second best part of lanzarote is " El Ancha" restaurant (or similar spelling...the Anchor basically) which is in the old town where the waiters are really friendly and the food is fantastic. (you'll find it right beside the bowling area...you'll know it when you see it!)
The best part by far was the music in Mulligans, in the old town. If you don;t stumble across it then ask someone where it is. The performers are brilliant. There's a band called White Chocolate and you will not be disappointed if you catch them.....they are awesome!!!
Great Place - Just Perfect
Stayed here for a week with the girlfriend. It is just off the main strip in the New Town and is close to everything that you need. For the whole week we walked everywhere thats how close.
The apartment itself was big and very very clean. The staff and friendly and have good english. The cleaners are in 6 days of the week cleaning the apartment and putting in new towels. Our apartment had its front facing the main strip and only a window facing the pool, but that didn't bother us because we didn't have to go into the
complex at night then, we shared a security entrance gate with the apartment next door and we both had a key to lock this gate at night.
The only bad thing i have to say about them is that the walls are paper thin, you can hear everything, but not the worst, it was well bearable.
The pool is nice and big with plenty of sun loungers and the poolside
bar has a big screen tv and plays all the football matches. The food in the bar is great, great for the lunches during the day.
Food at night there is loads, i mean loads of different places to try. We went to a different place each night and found them all good and cheap too for what you get, which is huge.
Bars are great, plenty of good bars, especially the Irish ones with the live music, great craic to be had in them. plenty of clubs if your out for that sort of holiday.
Shops plentiful but they can be annoying to with all the pushy sellers in the shops.
Hope this helps!
fanastic place to stay will definatley go back, a gem on the island
These apartments where lovely, from the bedroom we had views of the pool and from the living area we had views of the sea with a balcony. All the staff are very helpful and pleasant. The rooms are cleaned daily by excellent cleaners a joy to stay!! ideally situated with supermarkets just a few steps away, follow the road out and turn left takes you to numerous restaurents and pubs or you can turn right and it takes you to all of the main bars and clubs. They are all within walking distance, excellent. When you walk towards the clubs make sure you walk a bit further past the main clubs (some nights) past the last main club tropical as you will find superb irish bars and linekers bar, dont always listen to what the pr's tell you.
This is my first holiday with my partner, i usually go to magaluf or spain but i loved it. These apartments are the best and puerto del carmen is superb, something for everyone. loads of restaurents and bars you are neve bored. we had a great holiday and everyone who i spoke to who stayed here at the apartments said they would come back.
these apartments are a gem on the island, and are ideally priced!! Superb !!!

transport from aeroport to playa blanca
what is the taxi price for this 33 km ? is it possible to do this conection by public bus ?
Re: transport from aeroport to playa blanca
Re: transport from aeroport to playa blanca
A taxi will cost around €30-35 each way. There are plenty at the airport.
The bus is difficult as you need to go into Arrecife then get the Guagua (bus) to Playa Blanca.
You can pre book a taxi with either www.canaltravel.com or www,alpharooms.net.
Alpha rooms being the cheapest.
Have a good holiday.
