Eating

The Canarian cuisine is not that extensive, but at places like El Golfo etc try some of the freshly caught seafood and the Mojo sauce is a must with the Canarian potatoes. The potatoes are cooked with skin on in very salty water then when cooked the water is poured off and the potatoes are left to cook some more in the dry pot. Very tasty with Mojo sauce which comes in 3 variaties. The usual that you will find are the verde which is green and mild made with fresh herbs especially corriander. Then there is the roja which is red and is spicier as it is made with chillies! I brought recipe books and some mojo sauces with me, but I will miss the fresh seafood.
Beer!

The Canaries have their own beer brewing industries. The main beer you will see in most bars and restaurants is Dorada. This is also the cheapest beer to drink with a large glass at around 2.10 euro. However some places offer it at anywhere from 1.25 to 1.50 euro. I enjoyed the local beer.
Puerto Calero Marina
by lomi
Puerto Calero marina is a lovely spot to spend an afternoon. Lots of restaurants and cafe bars overlooking the harbour.
Take a water taxi to Puerto del Carmen from here or book a submarine, catamaran trip or a scuba dive.
There is also a small marina in Puerto del Carmen in the old town, and also in Playa Blanca.
Moorings are also available in Areciffe harbour. Feed the giant fish in the shallow water.

Post boxes are a nice yellow colour and have a slot for foreign posts called" Extranjeros".A postcard will cost about 30p to post to England.Lanzarote does not have many youth hostels or back packing facilities like most other places.
When entering/leaving a bar,restaurant
by rachel_sun
When entering/leaving a bar, restuarant with locals in it, it is good manners to address the room with a quiet greeting of SENORES,SENORES,or say HOLA when speaking to Spaniards.Dress sensibly too as local people do not strip off or even sunbathe. Most local people always like to look smart.Try tapas as they are delicious and can be eaten as a snack or a starter to a main meal.Have lunch around 2pm and eat late as the locals do around 9 or even 10 pm.
