Callao Salvaje

by tezzer48

Hi, we will be staying in Callao Salvaje for a week 15th Jan and wondered how easy it would be to get to Mt Teide and also to Santa Cruz de Tenerife by bus or tours.

I do not know Callao Salvaje so wonder if it is one of the new developments around Adeje?
The public transport system on Tenerife is pretty good and it is easy to get around by bus. Most resorts offer tours from hotels and apartment complexes to both Mount Teide and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. We stayed in a rented apartment in Vila Flor in the foothills of Mount Teide and rented a car and visited both places.(you can see them my Tenerife pages on VT).
If you take a trip to Mount Teide, however warm it is on the coast remmeber it may be much cooler/colder up in the mountains so wear layers that day and sensible footwear for rough terrain.
Santa Cruz is a very attractive town - we liked it so much we stayed a night there. Enjoy your trip

Travel Tips for Isla de Tenerife

In Playa de las Americas ...

by LysDor

In Playa de las Americas and Los christianos the main attraction is sunbathing.

Nevertheless here you won't see beautiful white sand beaches - there are all gray due the volcanic soil.
The only "golden beach" found on the biggest of all Canary Islands, is Las Teresitas, few kilometers from Santa Cruz. The reason? It's a man-made beach - the sand comes from Sahara desert!!

SQUARES

by BerniShand

I really like squares and plazas, I like the way people use them, they are such a great place for people watching
their uses changes as the day progresses, and the peaceful haven for the elderly becomes playground for the young every town has at least one square, which the community really uses, its nice to have somewhere to sit and while away a bit of time

Canarian bananas

by Muya

The famous banana cluster is one of the symbols of the Canary Islands, yet the banana is not the first agricultural ressource of the archipelago anymore. The banana in the Canary islands doesn't have the same aspect as the one we do eat in Europe, it is smaller and sweeter, and also called the "little dwarf". Tenerife and its sisters nowadays produce less bananas than India, Brazil or Ecuador. The production is almost entirely destinated to Spain. Being much more expensive than its cousins of Africa or South America, the little canarian banana is too difficult to export and is loosing ground to the tomato.

beauty at sea-level and from above

We visited this wonderful sunkissed golden sand beach on the north side of Tenerife. Then we enjoyed a great new perspective of it from this cliffside perch. I love the curve of the land and the rainbow of blues of that gorgeous ocean.

Day 7 Thursday Back to El Teide Pick

by Carmela71

Thursday. we woke up early to be the first ones at the Teleferico to go up to the mountain and avoid the queing. But when we arrived at the top it was snow, there was ice and you could only stay near the main office. So we could not walk far. It was a putty and we will have to come back. we drove around the National park but on the way down to Puerto de la Cruz (we were driving down south through the motorway) Stace began to suffer of migrain so we had to stay for the night there, the best thing that we could do
