    Accommodation

    by

Allocated on arrival, 3 Star Colombus Apartments is in the heart of Playa de las Americas. An ideal location because you can get around everywhere and easily, by foot.

Unique Quality: The hotel has many amenities including 2 swimming pools, 2 lifts, a restaurant, gym and 24 hour supermarket. The entertainment provided by the hotel is excellent. If you're too tired to go out at night, you can sit back, relax and be entertained by various acts and live shows. The kids will love it too.

Bad weather in the Paradise Isles

by TripAdvisor Member raygee

This hotel is set within walking distance of the main Playa de las Americas areas and also Los Cristianos. It is made up of 2 large blocks, separated by a large swimming pool, and your position in these blocks determines whether or not you get the sun on your balcony.
It offers both half board and self-catering, but everyone is allocated a studio, so half-board guests have the facilities to make snacks, a big fridge for drinks, and TV (BBC1, Sky Movies 1 and Eurosport) costing 1 euro per hour. The towels were changed daily and there was plenty of hot water - bedlinen every 2 or 3 days. We even had the bedspread and the shower curtain changed! Some of the rooms are looking dated and worn but they are re-furbing.
There are lots of sunbathing areas with plastic loungers - you can hire a cover for them and there are jacuzzis and a smaller pool also available.
There are plenty of shops for supplies, including Netto just round the corner and a Mercadona store within walkling distance behind the fixed balloon.
We recommend the La Gomera day trip and also visiting Teide and Puerto de la Cruz for the contrasting scenery.

Lovely hotel

I've just returned from a winter break at the Hotel Columbus, this is the third time I've stayed there and it seems to just get better!!
It's in an excellent location, within easy walking distance to all bars and restaurants but still in a fairly quiet setting so you are able to sleep at night!! The staff are not always fully conversant in english but they were extremely helpful. The holiday reps are always in situ and are willing to help translate! The rooms were always kept spotless and were cleaned 5 times a week by the maids.
I stayed self catering preferring to eat in the nearby cafés/bars - I would recommend La Boca on the strip. The chinese restaurant on site provides gorgeous good value food which can be eaten in or taken away into the early hours.
There is so much sunbathing space that even when I have visited in high season I've never had trouble finding a lounger, the jacuzzi's on the 6th floor roof terrace are worth a try too!! I've stayed at many 4 and 5 star hotels on the island but find this 3 star one wins hands down!

the best holiday ever

10th august - 20th august 2004. Well, on arival to the columbus our first impression did not impress us. we were on the coach and everyone was being dropped off at their lovely hotels and when we pulled up outside the columbus we didn't think much. When we got to the room it was very small but had all of the necessities. Although first impressions were not up to scratch we grew to love the Columbus, the pool was a lovely size, there were always clean sun loungers available in the mornings and the room was cleaned on a daily basis and the cleaners were very polite which was surprising thaking into consideration that you could barely see the floor! (we were slobs for 10 days). the one thing that i would say is excellent about the columbus is that on the roof of one of the blocks there were sun loungers and jaccuzi's and a spa. well all i will say is that i thank the columbus for my almost all over tan! it was quiet up there and the sun is soo hot when you are up high. the columbus trips were also excellent! we were told not to use them as the bus would be full foreigners and everything would be said in 5 different languages but that was not true. we used the columbus trip facility for the trip up the volcanoe, loro parc and the island tour! all of which were great and all in english!!! and also at a discounted rate rater than going to our reps!
I would give the Columbus a 10 out of 10. first impressions are okay but beneath the exterior there is a fantastic holiday at the columbus!
IM PLANNING ON GOING BACK TO THE COLUMBUS THIS YEAR TOO!!!

The Columbus 2004

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed at the Columbus for two wks in Oct 2004. Great location for all-close but not too close to nightlife. Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Facilities superb including 2 onsite eateries and 1 bar as well as supermarket. The entertainment provided was very much aimed at families-it was very popular with different acts every night.

It is within walking distance to two fantastic beaches, 1 with watersports and lots of little shops. There is an onsite Tourist Information person available to arrange visits, trips etc. (Much cheaper than anywhere in the town)

The twin rooms were a perfect size for 2 people. The balcony overlooking the pool was fantastic at all times of day.

Went halfboard in the second week and the food was very tasty. An enormous choice of dishes were served buffet style.

Overall a great time had by all and would reccomend this to anyone looking for a fun, friendly atmosphere.

ps. The pool is fab!!!!!!

Really Nice

Very clean hotel , we had maid service every day ,the swimming pool is really nice a bit cold when you first get in but very clean too.Staff very friendly we didnt eat there so cant comment on the food , we would go back there again the entertainment for kids isnt very good but we had a great holiday and would go back again.

Tacky-low service-even managment

by TripAdvisor Member ebenezer57

whilst only 1/2 mile from beach & pool is o.k the night time entertainment was very poor.each night a game of bingo was played the winner recieving a bottle of wine or spirits a value of about 4 euros yet ticket sales were 100 euros + therefore we are paying for the entertainment.I believe this is illegal in Spain.playing bingo without a licence, when I complained I was dismissed by the manager. The food on offer was average and many near-by resauraunts give better service and quality at a good price

Absolutely Excellent!

Upon looking at the recent reviews I was slightly put off by this hotel. On arriving there, was expecting it too be awful but in actual fact it was lovely.

All staff were very friendly, maids cleaned room every day, pool was kept very clean as was the whole hotel.

We did not eat there so cannot comment.

The only problem we (as a family with a 7 year old daughter) found was at night around about 12-1am it was very noisey in the corridor outside of the room but that I assume were just youngsters coming home from a good night out.

Very close to a lovely beach. Walking distance, it took about 15 mins.

We will definately be going back and look forward to our next trip!!!

Clean but dated

by TripAdvisor Member Stephen1965UK

The hotel was clean and the staff helpful. The downside was the rooms were very dated especially the bathrooms and in urgent need of replacing. The pool area is nice but doesn't get much sun. The food in the hotel was not very good and a better option is to eat out at one of the many good restaurants nearby. Highly recommended is Sugar and Spice & Michaelangelo's.

Columbus is great!!

Hotel is ace.

I have now stayed there 3 times(Sep 91,Jan04,May05).

There is lots to do ie:

Rifle shooting,table tennis,water polo,good entertainment at nights.

Hotel is in a good position near enough to beaches and there are lots of restaurants nearby too.I recommend La Boca across road from hotel and about 250 yards down on the right.

Also Lineares is very good turn left out of hotel and its about 300 yards down on the left hand side.Excellent value for money and really nice food.

George pub is fine too.Go out of hotel turning left then left again go up past Netto supermarket and cross the road you will see George pub on the right.

George pub stays open till 3:30/4am and will serve food till about 2/2:30 am.Also on a Sunday they do a fantastic Sunday roast and desert for about 7 euros.
