Las Canadas del Teide
by HORSCHECK
Las Canadas del Teide is located at about 2000 m around the volcanic crater of Mount Teide (3718 m) and Pico Viejo (3070 m). It is a national park since 1954. The landscape is tree less and dominated by volcanic colours.
Roques de Garcia is a famous rock formation for a pleasant walk in the Ucanca Plain near the Mount Teide. A visitor centre in El Portillo explains the history of the national park.
Look down, or back, and wonder.

The vistas on Tenerife are truly out of some other world. So are the mountain roads. It takes looking at them from a high vantage point to realize just what a crazy zig-zaggy pattern you've been weaving. Full-size buses navigate these trails right alongside you and your fellow passenger cars. Good luck to you all around those hairpin corner turns! Suck in your breath and pray and sometimes close your eyes, that seems to help. ;-O
Huge leaps from the dolphins
by easyoar
This was another of the shows at Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz. For me, it was the best show as the dolphins were highly trained and seemed to be enjoying every minute of the show.
The dolphins were also relatively easy to photograph as the tricks were normally indicated in some way. For instance in the attached photo, the guy stood on two dolphins and raised his arms. It didn't take a lot of guessing that a dolphin would jump over him, so I pre-focussed the camera on the guys body and waited. When the dolphin jump, it was just a case of waiting for it to pass over the guys head and clicking the shutter button.
The show must have lasted at least half an hour, and the dolphins did many jumps (through hoops, up in the air to hit hanging balls, and up to grab a fish from a person hanging high in the air). It was well worth watching, and you are free to see it as many times in a day as you like.
The White Tiger
by easyoar
If this picture looks a little funny, it is because Prince (the name of this White Tiger) was standing around in the shade when I tok this shot, so the illumination isn't as good as I would have liked.
Prince lives with his mate (Saba - she's a normally coloured tiger) on Tiger Island in Loro Parque. He was born in June 1999, and was originally hand reared by a magician for use in his magic tricks, but was donated to the park.
These days there are very few white tigers in captivity, and there are no records of any white tigers at all in the wild since 1958. Once upon a time they were quite common in India. So I guess we are lucky to still be able to see the odd one in zoos today.
