More about Santa Barbara Golf & Ocean Club
Really enjoyed our stay at the Santa Barbara Golf & Ocean Club
Me and my husband have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Santa Barbara Golf and Ocean Club and had a really nice relaxing week.
Our room was great a two bedroom with large living area, kitchen area and great patio (massive) with a great view of the ocean, we could watch the sun rise and set from the comfort of our own private balcaony.
The resort itself was lovely and well maintained (there was the odd bit of noise from work going on occasionally but thats the price you pay I suppose to keep the standard high)
We read some reviews about this place before we went and were a little bit nervous to say the least. However a lot of the negative reviews were in our opinion over the top.
There was a smell of drains sometimes (a bit like rotten eggs) but this is something we have come across before (even a five star hotels, it wasn't constant but sometimes you would get a whiff of it.
The hotel resturant was great there was a set menu available which was a 3 course meal for 13 euros!!! which we thought was great value for money.
Despite some of the recommendations from other trip advisors about other resturants on the resort we were very disappointed with the quality and the costs (La Marina for example, the food was disappointing and my husband had a dodgy stomach for a couple of days afterwards). However we did try this one resturant called THE LOBSTER POT, food was beautiful as was the service, though not cheap this was the best meal out we had the entire stay, one thing to remember if you want lobster you have to give them 24 hours notice so we were disappointed but I had the giant prawns instead and they were great.
We got this holiday free (including flights) from a firm called sunterra as a promo, apart from the negative reviews we have read about this company since we did a bit of research on our return, this holiday at least was well worth it, younger people may find this hotel a bit too quiet and away from all the action in Las Americas but we just wanted a relaxing break from work and the kids and got what we wanted, and Sunterra did provide a car for our stay so we could drive wherever we wanted whenever we wanted.
We didnt really rate the hotel entertainment in the evening but others obviously did as it was packed every night.
There are also some great excursions from this hotel we did the "Freebird 1" (this was supposed to be the VIP package but in our opinion your better of with the cheaper Freebird, you don't get that much extra for the VIP (except a cup of cheap champagne). but the main reason for doing it is the whale and dolphin watching "magical" though my husband wasnt as impressed as me.
The Medival Night was great as well, knights battling on horse back includes dinner and endless supply of wine or soft drinks (you have to pay for beer) and the show after was also entertaining when we were there it was africian dancers.
All in all we had a great week and would certainly return to Santa Barbara Golf and Ocean Club even though we don't golf.
Absolutely loved it!
We have just returned from a one week stay at Santa Barbara Golf & Ocean Club. We were really worried as we read about the bad reviews the night before we left home. What a lot of tosh the remarks made by people that said "would never go there again" and "we left ofter only one week". We are really fussy and do complain about holiday accomodation etc in the UK and abroad if it is not right. We own property in three different countries and we are quite fussy we do therefore recommend that you take our comments seriously.
The reception we received was second to none. Henri was more than helpful, he was warm very friendly and could not do enough to make us feel welcome. We were shown to our room and wow! what an amazing view and we were particularly happy as we had fantastic sunset views too. The room (apartment) 404 was perfectly equiped and our rooms were all spotlessly clean everywhere. Curtains and all other quality fittings were perfect.
The linen and towels were of excellent quality too and changed almost every day. They were all pure white so you know they are very clean. There was never a shortage of towels, we even had extra pillows we never had to ask for.
Every thing was in working order including the ice maker and a CD player. Very important! We wanted for nothing! The pool, area and the Gym is superb we swam and used the Gym every day. Everything including all of the toilets were immaculate. No wet smelly floors all day long!
The entertainment was superb, there was something good to look forward to every night. There are loads of places to go and lots of great places to eat. We have no complaints about eating out either, more than we can say for eating out at home.in the UK. There is a funny smell around the area, a little like rotten eggs but its not as bad as other people have reported. We did not notice it until we walked up the road a little. Got to be honest we were looking for it, having read earlier comments.
A must "to do" activity is the banquet evening which is held in a castle. The entertainment is well worth all of the fee alone but includes the food and unlimited wine too!
All in all we had a great time and met three other couples later in the week that enjoyed and loved the resort as much as we did. They all say that they will log there ZERO complaints on this site too. Go have a great holiday and YOU MUST visit the volcano. You wll be amazed by this and the wonderful sites on the this amazing Island, at the same time as staying somewhere where they care about you and how you feel. All ofthe staff speak to you and gret you every time they see you. We will be going back again! This place is a great place for winter sunshine. This resort is still alive out of season. We were still swimming in the fantastic pool on December 1st right up to an hour before leaving for the airport to come home. Thanks Santa Barbera for a great well priced enjoyable holiday. 1st Class.
Shame about the noise!
The resort was clean and pleasant. The apartments were clean and well equipped and the nearby restaurants were very good, especially Marina I & II and Gulliver's Grill.
But!!! Santa Barbara was very noisy and there was a continual smell of sewage at one end of the resort. The apartment consistently had noise from the room above; noise from the maintenance staff; and noise from the building work nearby - one morning at 3.15am! Also, one morning unsupervised children rang doorbells at 2am.
We know the resort is not responsible for its guests but perhaps some rooms should be kept for couples. The resort knows it has a problem because there are signs everywhere requesting people to be quiet, but no-one seems to take any notice. Bottle and rubbish emptying goes on at all hours and there is a constant sound of heavy metal furniture being moved on tiled floors - in small rooms furniture has to be moved just to get into the kitchen!
Definitely not a place to go if you want to relax or read a book. Could some of the furniture have something underneath to reduce the noise, or at the very least could the bedrooms be carpeted?
The staff were most unhelpful and ignored any requests made.
The room had a terrible smell throughout our stay and they would not move us to another one. Spoiled the whole holiday. Many of their amenities were closed even although it was a school holiday week.
Did not enjoy out stay at all. Will not be back.
Santa Barbara - fabulous!
My husband and I have recently returned home from a relaxing three weeks stay at Santa Barbara. Having only booked for two weeks, (31st Dec-14 Jan), we were having such a fabulous time, we enquired at Reception if it was at all possible to stay one more week. The staff were very helpful, they even helped us with rearranging our flights.
Our apartment was great, very clean and the cleaners were all very friendly. The pool area was also clean, and even though it got quite busy at times, there was never any shortage of sunbeds. We did try lots of restaurants on Golf del Sur but our favourite was actually the restaurant at Santa Barbara, a four course meal for 15 euros, and very good too!
The weather was gorgeous for all of our stay, we came home with a fabulous tan, (pity we had to cover it all up on our return home!!!!).
Beautiful, well run accommodation
We got back from Santa Barbara last night and I can honestly say the only complaint I've got is that we had to come home! The room, and indeed the whole resort was always clean and spotless, the staff warm, friendly and very helpful.
The entertainment, that we saw was really good, but to be honest there are that many good restaurants around that we spent most nights looking for a different one to eat in.
Speaking of which, I would highly recommend the Golden Bay chinese restaurant just up the road, and Gullivers Grillhouse in the San Blas shopping area - the food in both was outstanding, also on the marina there is a Mexican restaurant where the service and the food were fantastic.
In the day we would visit a man made 'lagoon' that has been built in the rocks on the way to the San Blas shopping area but be warned it is very cold!!
I've read other reviews and seen the comments about the smell, there was a smell around that was stronger at some times than others - but it would take more than a smell to ruin our holiday. We were in Villa 17 on the seafront so could'nt smell it in our room, there is no air conditioning as such but there are ceiling fans which we found relieved the heat a little bit. There is so much to say about this place that I don't think I can fit it all on one page. I will say though, if you are going you are very lucky and I am very jealous!! Enjoy!
What an amazing place
All I can say is I had a wonderful time. Our apartment was amazing, the facilities were great, and staff very friendly.
If you stay here make sure you go on the Teide by night tour, it’s very romantic and the guides were great. The best place we found for food was Gullives Restaurant in San Blas. The food is all fresh and homemade. Very Very good quality.
I had no complaints after my week here, I just didn't want to go home.
Just returned from Santa Barbara and would recommend this resort if you want a peaceful, relaxing holiday. It is close enough to walk to San Blas and if you want to go to Las Americas or Los Cristianos then they are close enough to either use public transport or get a taxi.
The resort is very clean and the staff are both helpful and friendly.
Other people have complained about the smell but we did not have any problems with this.
We would recommend a visit to the Bistro 27 restaurant as we found the food excellent. All the food was cooked fresh and the chefs could be seen preparing all the meals. Although the menu did not have Paella for one they made one at our request. The staff were really friendly and we thought that it was very good value for money.
Overall we had an excellent holiday and would return again.
My Honeymoon at Santa Barbara
My "new" husband and I stayed at Santa Barbara from May 25th through June 9th for our honeymoon. The place was beautiful and the staff was very nice; however, we would never stay at this place again. (At first they put us in a room with 2 tiny beds - for our honeymoon). Although, the main problem was that It cost us so much money to go anywhere. There is nothing to do in this location - and we mean nothing. We had to travel about 35 minutes to get anywhere. "If" we were to return to the Canary Islands, we would stay in either Las Americas or Los Cristianos where there are things to do. There are restaurants and bars and people in these two locations. At Santa Barbara it is very b o r i n g. Sure, you could walk to a few (a very few) restaurants and bars, but they are just not that exciting (in nearby San Blas). Another reason we were pretty disappointed was that all the people were from either England or Ireland. We went to "Spain" to see and meet Spaniards. If we wanted to see people from England, we would have gone to England (although, they were very very sweet people!). It was very sad to not meet and speak to Spaniards. The next time I would go back to mainland Spain - as I love the Spaniards!
Quiet and Relaxing..
I stayed in the Santa Barbara for one week with two girlfriends. We went there with the intention of having a quiet and relaxing holiday which is exactley what we got. The hotel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It is a 20 Euro cab ride to either Los Americas or Los Christianos which is pretty pricey. The pool area is lovely and there is a walk along the cloffs which is beautiful. It is a very quiet area so if you are looking for nightlife I would think somewhere closer to either of the above would be more suitable. If you walk all the way along the cliffs to the left you will come to this amazing little fishing village. It is full of locals and you can pick your fish from a tank of fresh fish and shellfish caught that day. It was amazing, sitting right out on the water sipping wine and eating fresh local fish.
The rooms were lovely also, we did a swap for a week in a timeshare in Quinta de Lago, Portugal and granted it was not a patch on the Four Seasons resort we swapped for but I would give it a high 3 - 4 star rating, probably a 4 by Tenerife standards!
