Comfortable small, clean, modest 3 star hotel which I would think is like an "US 1-star hotel". It's nicely located on the seafront with catching views of the wild Atlantic Ocean, the black beach, banana fields, and the best: an AZ like landscape/rocks (backside of the hotel). Installed signs saying "silencio" are very charateristic for that quiet island. There you can have bunches of Spanish, Germans, even Brits (in one dining room for example) and you hear no thienniest sound. But BIG silencio. No "Hey, how ya doin", "how is it goin" or any thing like that, a smallest greet with those kindest smile I'm used to when I'm stateside. But BIG silencio. Hm. However, staff & management are nice & helpful (and silent too of course). Good food! Especially the various offers of dessert. Breakfast on the roof terrace with dawn in one's eyes, looking out over the Atlantic is most beautiful - (and silent too of course). A lovely swimming pool & playground too is placed on the roof terrace.

San Sebastian, view from hotel by sachara We had an hotel in San Sebastian at walking distance of the harbour. The entrance of this hotel Garajonay is in one of the main shopping streets, the Calle de Ruiz de Padron, not far from the shops, cafes and restaurants. Our room was at the backside with a small balcony and a nice view at the Parque , nice palm trees and the surrounding mountains. In the town are also a lot of private apartments for rent. El Guro by fassolia I stayed at el Guro ,a village near Valley Grant Rey where there is a beautiful beach.El Guro is on a hill and many houses with a view to the mountains or the sea can be found.Just next to el Guro is the village Las pistas Las orijamas with many apartments for rent. 5000-10000 pesetas/day
It was VERY cheap,5000 pesetas/day and it was a small appartment in a sweet house surrounded by palm trees and banana trees. Can't give any more info because the owner didn't speek english at all and i speak very little spanish. But don't be afraid to go to this area (whith the most beautiful beach of the island ) and look for a pension or a hotel because even at the high season you will sure find smth nice. This 5 star hotel is undoubtedly the best on the Islands. Its situated on the south coast in Playa Santiago. All round good stay.
Excellent food, service and swimming pool. Exceptional 18 hole golf course

Climbing from Hermingua by mplessers We stayed for 2 days. Food is available in the kitchen and very good. However chooses are limited.
There is only one campsite on the island (when we where there, back in 2000). Theme: CampgroundPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterDirections: El Cedro (only 200m from the top of the waterfall, steep climb if you come from Hermingua).

Great view over Agulo by mplessers In all towns, just ask for people that will rent a room. Don't search for adverticement board, because most don't use it. In Agulo, ask for 'Petra'

The pool, Hotel Tecina by maykal We stayed in the four star Hotel Tecina which was, at the time, the only hotel offered in British holiday brochures, and was the first 'resort hotel' to be built on La Gomera. It certainly wasn't cheap, but I imagine it has become more and more expensive as more facilities have been added.
The main attraction for me was the swimming - I had three huge pools to choose from. There were about 300 rooms, but because the hotel was so spread out, it didn't feel that big. The rooms were built like 'typical Canarian' houses, each with its own balcony or terrace, and dotted around the gardens. The gardens were also quite large, and the hotel has recently changed its name to 'Jardin Tecina'. As for sports, well there seemed to be just about every sport you can think of available: tennis, diving, table tennis, mini golf, squash (my first encounter with squash, and somehow we locked ourselves in the court for two hours, until someone eventually found us!!!), shooting, etc.... There were three restaurants, as well two bars, a snack bar, shops, an outside theatre and even the hotel's own tribe of cats! Theme: HotelComparison: more expensive than averageDirections: Playa de Santiago, the sunniest place on the island, on the south coast. The hotel was situated on a headland overlooking the small port, and connected to the town by a lift built inside the cliff.

Hotel Tecina by maykal Another picture of the Hotel Tecina.....but of course there were other places to stay on the island. the most expensive was the Parador in the island's capital San Sebastian, where there were also some smaller hotels. In Valle Gran Rey, a building boom was happening, and lots of apartments have been built since I went. One day when we went out in the jeep, we came across a small cafe in the middle of nowhere, which rented out rooms. I've also seen some cottages in remote villages for rent advertised in the UK. Great hotel and staff but the food is terrible. Reminded me of school dinners. Evening buffet was not freshly cooked, used only tinned vegetables and fruit and was pure stodge. Go B&B only if you must eat there as local restaurants are excellent and provide proper Gomeran food.
