Hotel Jardin Tecina: la Goemra's Jewell
Hotel Jardin Tecina is a beautiful site, set on the top of a cliff, with an excellent restaurant/bar. The layout is a bit confusing (for the first day or so), as it's more a mini-village than an hotel, but you soon get used to it. There is also a lift taking you down to the Laurel Club, with a heated sea-water swimming pool, sun-bathing areas and a second restaurant (and mini-golf).
Our normal lazy-day consisted of a leisurely breakfast (served from 07:00 am to 10:00 am ish), checking e-mails (there is free WIFI in the hotel reception area, and an Internet cafe), a trip to the supermarket for beer and wine (out of the hotel entrance, turn left, then right; much much cheaper than the hotel bar), a walk into the fishing village of Santiago (via the lift), lunch (there are some excellent places for a light or not-so-light lunch) and a beer, then a walk back to the sea-water pool, exchange the blue passes for large green towels, relax/swim/read for a few hours, stroll back to the room, relax again, dinner (again, served from 07:00 pm to 10:00 pm ish), For a change, eat in the Laurel Club (excellent barbecue).
For less lazy days, there are some interesting walks near the hotel, you can hire a car from the hotel reception area (for 24 hours); 2 days hire and you'll cover most/all of the main points of interest (I'd suggest you do two separate 1 day hires), and the whale-watching voyage with Tina (on a Monday) is a must (wear a hat!!).
Some random notes:
GOOD STUFF
- the staff and locals are all very friendly
- breakfast and evening meals in the main restaurant are excellent
- there is an extra charge for using the Laurel Club barbecue in the evening (but it's worth it)
- the view from the beach of the clouds spilling over the mountains in the morning can be spectacular (like liquid nitrogen)
- the first bar on the right from the lift (la Chalana, on the beach) looks a bit rough, but is very friendly and the Sangria is excellent
- the starters in La Guavita (restaurant at the end of town) are HUGE
- the tucked-away Moroccan restaurant with a tiny terrace on the front in Valle Gran Rey (Tambara) is very good
NOT SO GOOD STUFF
- be prepared for a long wait for the ferry from Teneriffe (Los Christianos) to la Gomera (we had 5 hours; paddle on the beach, eat, drink and shop); you may arrive too late in the evening to eat (or not feel like it), so eat on one of the beach restaurants at Los Cristianos
- the taxi drive from San Sebastian to the hotel is "hairy" – no regard to the rules of the road or speed limits ! ! !
- the safe in the room doesn't work unless you pay (2 Euro per day) for a special code
- they claim that there is a library in the hotel, but we never found it
- there is very little information or organised trips from Thompson for Inglese (mostly for Germans and Spaninh)
- the TV is restricted for English-only speakers (CNN 25, BBC News 26, Zone Romantica 40, Movies4Men2 43) and mostly rubbish apart from the BBC
- if you buy cheap sun glasses, make sure that the screws are tight (bring some Loctite)

Hotel Gran Rey: Hotel Gran Rey
Hotel Gran Rey is a comfortable and clean 3 star hotel nicely located on the seafront with catching views of the wild Atlantic Ocean, the black beach, and banana fields. Installed signs at Hotel Gran Rey are saying silencio. In fact one can sit with bunches of Spanish, Germans, even Brits in one dining room yet one hears no sound but silencio. No "Hey, how ya doin", "how is it goin" or any thing like that. No greet with that gentle smile I'm used to when I was stateside. However, staff & management of Hotel Gran Rey are nice & helpful. Service is good, and food too, particulary the huge selection of delicious dessert. Breakfast on hotel's terrace with dawn and Ocean in one's eye, is most beautiful. A lovely swimming pool & playground too are placed on the terrace.

I just found a place when I arrived. Bigger than I needed, but so cheap it didn't matter.

Hotel Gran Rey: Avoid school dinners food at Hotel Gran Rey
Great hotel and staff but the food is terrible. Reminded me of school dinners. Evening buffet was not freshly cooked, used only tinned vegetables and fruit and was pure stodge. Go B&B only if you must eat there as local restaurants are excellent and provide proper Gomeran food.

Nice new little studio in borbalan ,valle gran rey in la gomera.
the best; the views to the sea and the mountain. you can see el hierro and la palma islands. by night, relaxing looking the stars.
tranquility,clean, nice owners.
no television. go out and look at the stars or go to the beach of valle gran rey or get into the laurisilva in garajonay, the ascent forrest.
Unique Quality: the great views. for just 30 euros per night you can stay in a nice clean house.

Hotel Jardin Tecina: Incredible Hotel
This 5 star hotel is undoubtedly the best on the Islands. Its situated on the south coast in Playa Santiago.
All round good stay.
Unique Quality: Excellent food, service and swimming pool. Exceptional 18 hole golf course

Hotel Garajonay: San Sebastian, view from the hotel balcony
We had an hotel in San Sebastian at walking distance of the harbour. The entrance of this hotel Garajonay is in one of the main shopping streets, the Calle de Ruiz de Padron, not far from the shops, cafes and restaurants. Our room was at the backside with a small balcony and a nice view at the Parque , nice palm trees and the surrounding mountains.
In the town are also a lot of private apartments for rent.

Jardin Tecina: the best place in Playa Santiago
In November 1993 i stayed in La Tecina for one week. Now - ten years later -
i again go to tecina.
I think, its is one of the best places on Gomera.

El Guro
I stayed at el Guro ,a village near Valley Grant Rey where there is a beautiful beach.El Guro is on a hill and many houses with a view to the mountains or the sea can be found.Just next to el Guro is the village Las pistas Las orijamas with many apartments for rent.
5000-10000 pesetas/day
Unique Quality: It was VERY cheap,5000 pesetas/day and it was a small appartment in a sweet house surrounded by palm trees and banana trees.Can't give any more info because the owner didn't speek english at all and i speak very little spanish.But don't be afraid to go to this area (whith the most beautiful beach of the island ) and look for a pension or a hotel because even at the high season you will sure find smth nice.
