El Cedro campground: El Cedro campground

We stayed for 2 days. Food is available in the kitchen and very good. However chooses are limited.

There is only one campsite on the island (when we where there, back in 2000).

Alternatives...

Another picture of the Hotel Tecina.....but of course there were other places to stay on the island. the most expensive was the Parador in the island's capital San Sebastian, where there were also some smaller hotels. In Valle Gran Rey, a building boom was happening, and lots of apartments have been built since I went. One day when we went out in the jeep, we came across a small cafe in the middle of nowhere, which rented out rooms. I've also seen some cottages in remote villages for rent advertised in the UK.

Hotel Tecina

We stayed in the four star Hotel Tecina which was, at the time, the only hotel offered in British holiday brochures, and was the first 'resort hotel' to be built on La Gomera.
It certainly wasn't cheap, but I imagine it has become more and more expensive as more facilities have been added.

The main attraction for me was the swimming - I had three huge pools to choose from. There were about 300 rooms, but because the hotel was so spread out, it didn't feel that big. The rooms were built like 'typical Canarian' houses, each with its own balcony or terrace, and dotted around the gardens. The gardens were also quite large, and the hotel has recently changed its name to 'Jardin Tecina'. As for sports, well there seemed to be just about every sport you can think of available: tennis, diving, table tennis, mini golf, squash (my first encounter with squash, and somehow we locked ourselves in the court for two hours, until someone eventually found us!!!), shooting, etc....
There were three restaurants, as well two bars, a snack bar, shops, an outside theatre and even the hotel's own tribe of cats!
