Tenerife Sol (4 stars)
by TripAdvisor Member CXS
I have just returned from a 2 week stay here with my wife. We got a decent deal from Globespan, however, the rating of this hotel as 4 star is a bit of poetic licence. Good things about the hotel are the staff in the resturant, having a fridge in the room and a good location for the beach. On the downside, the hotel is, in our opinion, very "tired"...it opened in 1979 and I don't think the place has been decorated, etc.., since. We had 4 problems when we were there....(1) the patio door did not lock properly. (2) the air conditioning was out of action for 1 week. (3) we had a morning with no water in the room, and (4) the constant noise from Veronicas is a serious issue for those who want to sleep between the hours of midnight and 6am. This hotel is 100 yards from the bars...
In general, I reckon we got what we paid for...the holiday was pretty cheap, and I'd say the hotel is "cheap"...anyone who thinks they've found a bargain "4-star" hotel will be disappointed. In summary, not a disasterous holiday, but, don't expect 4-star quality. Last point -- the food (at night) I found pretty good...breakfast, not so good.
excellent holiday

Just returned from our holiday at the Sol Tenerife, this is our second visit to this lovely hotel, which although we are both in our 60's has everything for us. Lovely staff, excellent variety of food, always room in the afternoon in the gardens to sunbathe, and best of all is directly onto the long promenade with shops and bars. The entertainment at night is a bit mixed but everyone in the hotel seem to enjoy it. Friends who we recommended this hotel to have also just returned and as he is in a wheelchair said it was the best holiday they have every had, the staff were wonderful and they will also be returning, as we will next year.
Loved every minute

We stayed at the Sol Tenerife for one week half board. We have 3 children, 11, 9, & 5, we absolutely loved it. We couldn't fault it, the staff from cleaners to managers were fantastic, the towels and rooms were cleaned daily, there was a lifeguard, kids/adults club, excellent amenities and although we had 2 rooms there was an adjoining room so for a family of 5 we had 2 bathrooms. The rooms are above average and the food, well we were just spoiled for choice. We've got the fussiest kids in the world and they never complained once. The pool bar is great for snacks. A family size pizza is just 5 euro. I would definitely recommend this Hotel and would certainly go back.
Okay

I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Sol Tenerife hotel. The hotel itself was perfectly fine, and although the rooms a little on the small side this posed no problems. My main problem with the room was the shower. Although there was a ton of hot water at all times of the day the shower isn't adjustable and you need to be 4 ft 9in to fit under it.
With regards to the food, i thought the breakfast was excellent, with there being a vast variety of food avialable. The evening meal was okay, but less varied for me. Hope you like veal and turkey as that is what was one most evenings. On a positive note they did have fresh fish and some days even prawns and salmon which were delicious.
With regards to the noise factor, the room to which i was in was quiet and i never heard any noise from Veronicas (i don't know if this is because it was winter season and the open aired nightclub was shut).
Sunloungers by the pool is an issue to a certain degree. The problem is that there are 2 types of sunloungers, some that are adjustable and some that aren't. The ones that don't adjust you can get plenty of, but if you want an adjustable one you need to get up really really early. I eneded up heading to the pool around 2pm and i never failed to get an adjustable lounger for the rest of the day. Also the pool is supposed to be heated in winter but it certainly didn't feel like it to me.
Location wise it is excellent. It is just off a small walk away from the 'patch' area full of bars and pubs and Verconicas is directly opposite. The only thing i would say is that they are doing major roadworks outside the hotel and the noise starts pretty early on and carries out until its dark, although this is outwith the hotels control it would have been nice to be warned.
Overall i would return to the Sol tenerife, the staff were helpful, the food was of good quality, even if a bit repeatative.
The Grande Paella Vallencia...

The Grande Paella Vallencia (Playa De Las Americas - Tenerife)
This was the cheapest restaurant we found. They always had numerous special offers and the portions were tremendous in size. Example prices: Grilled Tuna with Canarian potatoes - 600pts, Mixed grill (BIG!!) - 575pts, Sirloin Steak - 600pts. Their speciality Paella (after which they are called) 900pts per person, done to their special recipe including seafood and different meats.
Fantastic and highly recommended

I have just returned from a fantastic holiday with a friend of mine, we had the most fabulous time and the hotel was the finishing touches to a perfect time. I cannot believe people have been able to write bad reviews on the hotel as we could not find fault the whole week we were there. We are two girls who were there for a girlie holiday and lots of nightlife so it was the most perfect location for us as it is literally right in the middle of the nightlife, we loved the fact it came alive at about 11.30pm until 7am but because of this i would say because of the lcoation it would be more suited to couples and singles rather than families. We found that the hotel was mostly "not" english but again this did not bother us at all. Our hotel did have a very wide mixture of people, there were lots of families and couples, not many young children there at all and also for the whole week we were there, there were not any big groups of girls/lads which i know to some would be intimidating.
As was written in many reviews about the sunbeds, we did not have a problem at all getting a sun bed and we were not rising to after ten o clock, we always got a sun bed and had a got spot around the pool too. The food was so lovely, again i dont know how people can write bad reports on it. We both thought there was a very wide variety of food and it was more a case of i could not decide what to have to eat as there was so much choice. I found the staff were friendly although we didnt ever need to have any contact with them throughout nour stay, the staff where we ate were always very friendly too.
i would sum this holiday up by saying if you are looking for a holiday thats quieter during the day with a party life at night but not actually staying at the same hotel amongst the 18-30 clubbers, then this is the place to go,we absolutely loved it.
dont go there

Having just spent a week at the sol i was glad to get home.
i found the staff very unhelpful i had my purse stolen whilst sunbathing in the garden area by the pool all they said was i will give you the police phone number, anyway after a while i got them to ring police for me.
The food !! do you like brussel sprouts for breakfast!!!! ended up living on two fried eggs(cooked fresh) on toast everything else looked very unappetising, tea and coffee out of machine yeuch!
The dinners werent much better good selection but not good quality.
cleanliness level was good and noise level ok depending where they put you.
If you have a late night no chance of dozing by the pool constant stupid games going on!!
Had to go for a wander for a bit of peace.
Wouldnt return to this place if you paid me.
worst week of my life crap airline excel

The holiday began with a nightmare 26 hour delay with excel airway, holiday booked with travel city direct
poor communication and complete lack of consistancy
Finally arrived at hotel to be told not expected as company not informed them of delay.
Hotel supposed 4 stars more like 2 stars
Rooms very basic, very poor showers and toilets, good for people who want to be on top of the night clubs till 6 in the morning. Poor onsite shop.
Only part of the hotel deserving of 4 stars was the restaurant and the waiting on staff.
real luxuary

beautiful hotel , well situated, really spoiled, food was great, staff very pleasant, rooms were a wee bit cramped, but cleaned every day, maid was a lovely girl, always smiling, pool area was a bit crowded and the usual towels over the beds for the best part of the day while the owners went on a bus trip round the island, this must be STOPPED its not fair on other people. Most of the hotels try to stop this,we were there for a week and every day there was one party of six took up sunbeds, parasols, and mattresses, and tables right at the pool edge.but all in all we had a great holiday and will certainly go back.
This hotel is ok, but follow some pointers:

Having read the mixed Tripadvisor reviews after I had booked I was naturally apprehensive, but I think this is a good place to stay if you plan for some limitations:
Noise - I faxed and telephoned the hotel to ensure that we had a quieter spot. I am glad to say that they readily complied. The room was fine and clean, although I think it worthwhile asking for a non smoking room as these tend to be less smelly and moth eaten.
The hotel itself did not generate any noise disturbance as is often the case with concrete structures.
As described in other posts, if one overlooks the street of bars/clubs then the nights would too noisy for sleep.
Food - yes the restaurant is a little bright and canteen like. However the critisisms of the food are far too harsh. The choice at breakfast is fine, answering all types of diet.
The evening meals are better with meats, fish and poultry of a decent standard. Some items were cooked very well. A better atmosphere can be gained by eating a little later than 6:30pm - say later than 8pm
Pool side - not our cup of tea - but lack of beds a problem - caused as ever by absent guests commandeering beds with towels. However there is an excellent promanade next to the beach providing excellent walks and areas to sit and eat.
There is sufficient parking at the hotel and a good supermarket. The rooms have fridges, and we took a small kettle which was jolly useful for tea.
Security was v good, and on the whole staff were helpful.
I would recommend this hotel to a family with younger or older children.
